3388 Warning Incorrect or out of phase engine timing can result in damage to the valves. The Tool Connection cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by using these tools in anyway. Safety Precautions – Please read • If the engine has been identified as an Interference engine, damage to the engine will occur if the timing belt has been damaged. A compresion check of all the cylinders should be taken before the cylinder head (s) are removed. • not turn crankshaft or Do camshaft when the timing belt has been removed • make turning the engine To easier, remove the spark plugs • Observe all tightening torques • not turn the engine using the Do camshaft or any other sprocket • Disconnect the battery earth lead (Check Radio code is available) • not use cleaning fluids on Do belts, sprockets or rollers Part No. 5237 • Some toothed timing belts are not interchangeable. Check the replacement belt has the correct tooth profile • Always mark the belt with the direction of running before removal • not lever or force the belt Do onto its sprockets • Check the ignition timing after the belt has been replaced. • not use timing pins to lock the Do engine when slackening or tightening the crankshaft pulley bolts • ALWAYS REFER TO A REPUTABLE MANUFACTURERS WORKSHOP MANUAL www.lasertools.co.uk Engine Locking Kit Vauxhall/Opel | Chevrolet 2.0 SOHC www.lasertools.co.uk 3388 Warning Incorrect or out of phase engine timing can result in damage to the valves. This kit holds the correct timing position of the crankshaft and camshaft whilst changing the timing belt on 16v SOHC belt driven diesel engines N.B The information given below is for reference only. Laser Tools recommends the use of Manufacturer data or Autodata. Preparation The valve timing on these engines is set at top dead centre on No1 cylinder Remove the following components: 1. Engine top cover and front right hand inner wheel arch 2. Support the engine and remove the right hand engine mount and bracket 3. Auxiliary drive belts and tensioner 4. Timing belt covers 5. Vacuum brake pump B A 6. Crankshaft front pulley remove 4 pulley mounting bolts not the central main bolt. N.B. It is advised the water pump and belt guide pulleys are checked for smooth operation and play. Replace if required. Component A Ref A B Code C541 C540 OEM Ref EN-48246 EN-48245 Crankshaft Locking Pin locates in place of a blanking plug which is situated in the front of the engine block just under the starter motor. Description Crankshaft Locking Pin Camshaft Locking Tool Applications The application list for this product has been compiled cross referencing the OEM Tool Code with the Component Code. In most cases the tools are specific to this type of engine and are necessary for Cam belt or chain maintenance. Start Motor Turn the engine clockwise to TDC No1 cylinder and fit component A. Ensure component A locates properly and the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley are aligned. This must be done before removing the old cam belt. Blanking Plug If the engine has been identified as an interference engine valve to piston damage will occur if the engine is run with a broken Cam belt. A A compression check of all cylinders should be performed before removing the cylinder head. Always consult a suitable work shop manual before attempting to change the Cam belt or Chain. The use of these engine timing tools is purely down to the user’s discretion and Tool Connection cannot be held responsible for any damage caused what so ever.
