Problem Pneumatic chemical injection pumps are often driven by natural gas Not only is the energy value of the natural gas wasted but the vented gas is a significant source of Greenhouse Gas(GHG)emissions There are over 20,000 pumps in Western Canada and a typical pneumatic pump will vent gas in excess of 150 tonnes of CO2e per year at a cost of $2,250 annually(carbon tax of $15/tonne) Vented natural gas equates to $1,600/pump/year in lost sales gas revenue Solar powered pumps are the ideal alternative but with low solar availability, reliable winter operation is a challenge
