•
THIS IS NOT A TOY! Please ensure that kids are not playing with it.
•
The boot buoy is used by simply pulling down the handle and putting your show over the brush
•
To empty the boot buoy pull out tray at the bottom by the handle. This will be full of water so be careful. Take to the mop room and empty the tray and fill it with fresh water and a ¼ cup of quat plus in the sink and replace in the bottom of the boot buoy
•
For further information please refer to the manuals located in the staff room
•
Notify the Head Instructor Guard of any issues with the boot buoy
BUFFER •
The buffer is used to set chemicals into the pool tiles to allow for a better clean. It also ensures that the dirt and grime is lifted so it can be easily washed off with a hose or pressure washer.
•
The buffer must be plugged in to an outlet that is not occupied by any other electrical device. It will trip the breaker if the circuit is overloaded.
•
To use the buffer turn it on by the switch on the front, and pull back the safety switch on the handle. The scrubber is moved left or right by moving the handle bars up and down

EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES
AQUATIC WHEELCHAIR •
The wheelchair is to be stored in the equipment room
•
When requested by a patron, provide them with a chair and attachments and ensure that the brakes are “off”. Show them how to put the brakes on for transfers.
•
Direct the patron to use the wheelchair ramp over by the East corner of the bay.
•
Remind the patron and their aide to be cautious when crossing the bay gutter tracks by the steps. The wheels tend to stick in this area.
•
Do not leave the chair in the water. Remove it to the deck until it is needed by the patron to leave the pool, unless this is not possible.
•
Before returning the chair to the equipment storage area, rinse it off then leave it open to dry, do not fold!
•
The wheelchair must not be used outside the facility unless it is an emergency.
CLEANING OUTDOOR FOOTWEAR, WHEELCHAIRS, WALKERS AND CANES BEFORE ENTERING THE DECK •
This procedure is to try to keep our facility free from sources of infection and bacteria such as e-coli, etc. These can be carried onto the deck through outside footwear, wheels, canes, etc.
•
We will provide people with “booties” to fit over their shoes before being allowed onto the deck. These are stored in a drawer in the cashier area. A well labeled bleach solution will be available in the mop room by the front door – to be provided to individuals needing to cleanse wheelchairs, strollers, canes, etc. Boot buoy can also be used.
•
All Harbour Pool staff will be responsible for the education and enforcement of this procedure, advising patrons and contractors why it is necessary and providing the supplies to do the cleaning.
SILKLEER BAG CHANGES •
The silkleer bag needs to be changed when it is empty.
•
Ensure that a mask, gloves, and goggles are worn
•
To change the silkleer bag unplug the silkleer from the acutrol. Turn on the orange water valve to empty any excess silkleer out of the bag. Once the silkleer is empty, turn the orange valve off and remove the bag. Discard the empty bag in the garbage dumpster outside of the facility.
•
Place a new bag onto the feeder
•
Plug the silkleer back into the Acutrol 6

EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES
OPERATING THE OXYGEN CYLINDER 1. USING THE CYLINDER •
Open the cylinder valve by turning it counter-clockwise as far as it will go, then back ¼ turn. If you hear oxygen leaking out, tighten the hand screw further until the leak stops.
•
Read the amount of pressure in the cylinder on the pressure gauge. A full cylinder should have approximately 2000 psi pressure.
•
Turn the litre control knob on the flow meter until the indicator is at 10 – 15 litre per minute.
•
Fit the mask to the victims face so that it is comfortable.
•
Turn the cylinder valve off when finished using your oxygen. Leave the flow control on as you turn off the cylinder. That way, excess pressure can drain out of the regulator. You’ll see the needle on the pressure gauge drop to zero.
•
Remove used mask, discard and replace with new one.
2. REPLACING AN EMPTY CYLINDER •
Replace the cylinder when the pressure gauge reads 100 psi.
•
Make sure the cylinder valve is closed by turning it clockwise as far as it will go.
•
Make sure the pressure gauge reads zero before loosening the hand screw. If pressure remains in the regulator, open the flow control to drain off the pressure.
•
Loosen the hand screw until the regulator pins are out of the pinholes.
•
Remove the regulator by lifting it up over the neck of the cylinder.
•
Give the empty cylinder to the Head Instructor Guard to be sent away and refilled.
3. SETTING UP A NEW CYLINDER •
Place the cylinder in a carrying bag.
•
Remove the tape or plastic dust cover from the cylinder neck. Make sure that the plastic washer remains in place.
•
Using the turnkey, slowly turn the cylinder valve open (counter-clockwise) for a brief moment and close immediately to blow out of any dust that may have accumulated in the cylinder valve opening. Be careful to have the valve opening pointing away from you when you perform this procedure. 7
Harbour Pool EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES Staff and Facility Procedure Manual • Slip the regulator over the cylinder neck. Line up the pins on the regulator with the pin holes in the cylinder neck. •

INSPECTION PROCEDURE Grab the harness from the first aid room Inspect the harness. Inspect the harness hardware (buckles, D-Rings, back pad, loop keepers); these items must not be damaged, broken, distorted and must be free of sharp edges, burrs, cracks, worn parts, or corrosion. PVC coated hardware must be free of cuts, rips, tears, holes, etc. in the coating to ensure non-conductivity. Ensure buckles work smoothly. If present, inspect the quick connect buckles by ensuring that the release tabs work freely and that a click is hear when the buckle engages. Inspect parachute buckle spring. Inspect the webbing; material must be free of frayed, cut, or broken fibers. Check for tears, abrasions, mold, burns, or discoloration. Inspect stitching; Check for pulled or cut stitches. Broken stitches may be an indication that the harness has been impact loaded and must be removed from service. Inspect labels; all labels should be present and fully legible. Inspect each system component or subsystem according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Inspect the Stitched Impact Indicator: The stitched impact indicator is a section of webbing that is lapped back on itself and secured with a specific stitch pattern holding the lap. The stitch pattern is designed to release when the harness arrests a fall or has been subjected to an equivalent force. If the impact indicator has been activated the harness must be removed from service and destroyed. Record the inspection date and results in the inspection maintenance log (located on the shelf in the staff room-- Fall Protection Maintenance and Inspection Logs)
Notify the Head Instructor Guard if at the facility, or call the emergency cell phone to notify the on call staff member that someone is entering the tank and the reason for entering. Notify staff at the facility of the procedure and carry a two way radio to ensure direct communication with all staff. Put on fall arrest harness using the following steps; Locate the back D-ring held in position by the D-ring pad; lift up harness and hold by this D-ring. Ensure the straps are not twisted. 9
Harbour Pool EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES Staff and Facility Procedure Manual Grasp the shoulder straps and slip harness onto one arm. D-ring will be located on your back side. Ensure straps are not tangles and hang freely. Slip free arm into harness and position should straps on top shoulder. Chest strap buckle will be positioned on front side when worn properly. Pass excess strap through the loop keepers. Reach between your legs and grasp the leg strap on your left side. Bring the strap up between your legs and connect it. Pull the free end of the strap away from the buckle to make a snug fit on each leg strap. To loosen the leg strap, grasp the buckle and pull away from your leg to allow the strap to pull through the buckle. A plastic end keeper on the end of the strap will stop it from pulling completely out of the buckle. Repeat this procedure for the right side. Attach the chest strap by connecting the buckle (Pass male buckle through female buckle and pull free end of webbing to tighten). Chest straps should be six inches down from the top of the shoulders. Pass excess strap through the loop keepers. The strap may be tightened to a snug fit by pulling the free strap end to the left (away from the buckle). To loosen the chest strap, grasp the buckle and pull away from the body to allow the strap to pull through the buckle. A plastic end keeper on the end of the strap will stop it from pulling completely out of the buckle. Adjust shoulder straps to a snug fit. Left and right sides of shoulder traps should be adjusted to the same length and the chest strap should be centered on your lower chest, six inches down from the shoulder. The front D-ring on vest style harness is moved up or down by adjusting the shoulder straps and leg straps. Center the back D-ring between shoulder blades. Adjust leg straps to a snug fit. At least three inches of webbing must extend past buckle on leg straps.
Ensure that the arm and SRL are located in the filter tank bracket of the pool that is being entered into Put on the proper footwear- Rubber boots 10
Harbour Pool EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES Staff and Facility Procedure Manual Empty pockets and ensure that there is no loose clothing, hair, or straps. Attach the harness to the SRL and climb into the tank Perform the maintenance that is required and then exit the tank Notify the Head Instructor Guard if at the facility, or call the emergency cell phone to notify the on call staff member that that person has exited the tank safely Place the harness back in the first aid room For more information pertaining to the equipment please refer to the Manufacturer’s Manual located in the Staff Area.
