Error 1—overheating

The following error codes apply to the US Stove 4-digit digital control panel pictured below: ERROR 1—Overheating     Installation  There could be an obstruction in the exhaust system causing heat to linger in the stove.  If there is no vertical piping added to the venting system, there is no potential for natural draft. If the exhaust blower becomes compromised or weakened from wear and cannot exhaust properly, an installation with no vertical piping can cause heat to linger in the stove. Running on high heat setting  No pellet stove should be operated on a high heat setting for more than 2 hours or so. If the stove reaches the temp limit of the high limit thermodisc, the stove will automatically be sent into shut down. Malfunctioning high limit thermodisc  If the high limit is malfunctioning it may open at a lower temperature than what is designated as the limit temp.  This can be tested by our technical support team. Bad convection blower  If the convection/room blower is going bad, it will not cool the stove properly to prevent over-heating.  The blower may also not be receiving the proper voltage from the control board. This would mean it is not running at the speed necessary to prevent over-heating.  If the blower motor itself is over-heating it may also give an error 1. ERROR 2-Vacuum/Pressure  Hopper is out of pellets  If the hopper runs out of pellets mid-operation the stove will shut down with an error 2.  Control Board Malfunction or Bad Wiring  If bypassing the pressure switch does not clear the error 2 either the switch is not bypassed completely/correctly or the board or wiring is bad.  Defective Pressure Switch  If everything that could cause a pressure difference has been cleared, and board and wiring have been cleared, it is possible the pressure switch is defective. This is VERY rare and should not be assumed until all other troubleshooting options have been exhausted.  Pressure/Vacuum Change (MOST LIKELY CAUSE)  This can mean one of two things: there is a blockage causing the pressure to build or there is air escaping the stove or venting system causing the pressure to drop.  In this situation the auger will not be feeding. Once the stove has detected a pressure change it will cease the auger motor so the fire does not build and make the pressure problem worse.  See the next page for possible causes. Note: An Error 11 can also mean vacuum/pressure issues and should be troubleshot in the same way as an Error2! The following is a list of possible causes of pressure/vacuum issues (Error 2/Error11):          The unit has not been cleaned properly. The exhaust blower is clogged up with ash/debris. The exhaust pipes are clogged up with ash/debris. The exhaust pipes are not sealed with high temp silicone. The gasket around the door or glass is not sealing properly. The ash cleanout slides/doors are not closed properly. The pressure switch hose is brittle, cracked, or clogged. The port on which the pressure switch hose connects is clogged. Faulty pressure switch. Improper venting!  Excessive horizontal length.  Too many elbows/bends.  Vented/terminated into an existing chimney.  Wrong size piping.  Adaption to larger piping. Remember that just because the stove will run with the pressure switch bypassed, the pressure switch is not usually the problem. We use this method as a diagnostic tool to confirm a pressure/vacuum problem! Error 3- Low Limit/Flame Quality  Stove didn’t reach temp during start-up/Flame Quality  This is usually caused by an improper amount of air flow.  The damper could be too far open, allowing too much air to pass through the firebox. This would keep temperatures too low to exit start-up.  There may be buildup that is inhibiting air flow. This could be debris or excess ash in the burnpot, firebox, exhaust blower, vent system, etc.  The pellet feed is too low to maintain the temp.  Malfunctioning Low Limit Switch  If the stove is igniting properly: but the room blower is not turned on and stove never enters normal operation, it is likely that the low limit switch is defective.  This can be tested by our tech support team at (800)750-2723. Error 4-Power Loss  Electrical open in wiring  This means there is possibly a dead or stripped wire that is not allowing power to flow to a component.  This could also mean the control board is malfunctioning and not sending power to a component.  Power Loss  This can occur when there is a power surge. This is common when the power comes back on after an outage. Error 5-Auger  Auger is Jammed  Clear the auger of any jam. Check the auger shaft and auger motor shaft for damage.  Auger motor is bad  Run a diagnostic test and monitor whether or not the auger turns during the test. If it DOES the motor is good. It is not turning because the hopper switch is not closing or there is a pressure problem. It is also possible that the motor has just disconnected from the auger shaft. Do a visual check to ensure the motor is still attached.  Auger Motor Fuse is bad  If possible have the customer check the fuse for continuity. A visual inspection is not always accurate.  If all other components have been cleared, replace the fuse. Error 6-Ignitor  Ignitor is shorted  Run a diagnostic test to check ignitor function.  If only part of the ignitor glows it will need to be replaced.  For further ignitor troubleshooting call our tech support team at (800)750-2723.  Ignitor Fuse is bad  If possible check the fuse for continuity. A visual inspection is not always accurate.  Replace the fuse.  Model 6041 ONLY: Agitator Error  Either the agitator motor is bad, the control board is not send it power, of the agitator fuse is blown. Error 7—Exhaust Blower    Exhaust blower Malfunction  The blower motor may be locked up.  The blower housing could be clogged up with ash and debris. The control board may not be sending power to the exhaust blower  Run a diagnostic test. Exhaust Blower fuse is bad  If possible check the fuse for continuity. A visual inspection is not always accurate.  Replace the fuse. Note: There is no switch or sensor that will keep the exhaust blower from running. If the stove is on the exhaust blower should be on! Error 8-Room Fan    Room Fan Malfunction  The blower motor may be locked up.  The blower housing could be clogged up with ash and debris. The control board may not be sending power to the Room Fan  Run a diagnostic test. Room Fan fuse is bad  If possible check the fuse for continuity. A visual inspection is not always accurate.  Replace the fuse. Note: The Low limit switch/Thermistor allows the room fan to come on after start-up. If the blower is functional but doesn’t come on once the stove has reached temperature, bypass the low limit. If the blower comes on during normal operation with it bypassed the low limit switch needs to be replaced. Error 9-Bad Control Board  Control Board is not functional or Programming has been disrupted  Once this error appears there is not much that can be done aside from replacing the control board.  You may try to reset the board by holding down the AUX UP & DOWN arrows at the same time for 5 seconds or until “USSC” appears on the screen. Error 10—Ignitor Fuse (6041)  Ignitor is shorted  Run a diagnostic test to check ignitor function.  If only part of the ignitor glows it will need to be replaced.  For further ignitor troubleshooting call our tech support team at (800)750-2723.  Ignitor Fuse is bad  If possible check the fuse for continuity.
