Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 2 Phase 2 • Prepare the front faceplate with SC or ST couplers. • Slide the front in the sleefs (Position 1, 2 or 3). • The more you put the faceplate to the back, the bigger the bending radius of the patchcords. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 3 Phase 3 • Remove 2 meters of the outer sheath and the aramid yarns from the cable. • Avoid damaging the fibres while cutting the outer jacket and yarns. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 4 Phase 4 • When patch cables are used (SC, DC, ZC, SC-MT), use the following installation procedure: Fix outer coating onto base of the patch panel. • The tie-wraps must not be tightened too firmly to avoid tension of the fibres. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 5 Phase 5 • If other cables than the patch cables have to be attached to the patch panel, then the cable gland has to be used. • Install the cable gland. • Insert the cable with the outer coating in the cable gland. • Screw the nut of the cable gland further to the patch panel. The rubber ring inside the cable gland will narrow itself and hold the cable in position. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 6 Phase 6 • Put the loop rings in the bottom ot the patch panel. • Provide a few spare loops in the patch panel and put the fibres in the loop rings. • Measure the length of each fibre to the coupler and cut the rest of the fibre. • Take the fibre out of the loop rings and mount the connectors on the fibre. • Put back the fibres in the loops rings and insert the mounted connectors in the couplers. • Respect the colour coding. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 7 Phase 8 • Now gently screw the patch panel in the frame. • Loop the fibre cable in the back of the cabinet respecting the minimum bending radius. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 8 READY TO SPLICE VERSION: PIGTAILS Phase 1 • Place the patch panel on a working shelf where you can work properly. • Remove the cover from the patch panel. • Foresee at least 5 meters of spare cable in case of cable breaks. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre Patch Panel - 9 Phase 2 • Prepare the front faceplate with SC or ST couplers. • Slide the front in the sleefs (position 1, 2 or 3). • The more you put the faceplate to the back, the bigger the bending radius of the patchcords. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre Patch Panel - 10 Phase 3 • Remove cover from splicetray. • Put the splice tray on its place. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 11 Phase 4 • Remove 1.6 meters of outer sheath from the tube(s). • Remove 700 mm of tube from the fibres. • Use the correct tools in order not to damage the fibres while cutting into the tube. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 12 Phase 5 • Attach the outer coating of the cable onto the base by means of tie-wraps. • Tighten the tie-wraps firmly. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 13 Phase 6 • If no tie-wraps are used, then the cable gland has to be used to affix the cable to the patch panel. • Install the cable gland. • Insert the cable with the outer coating in the cable gland. • Screw the nut of the cable gland further to the patch panel. The rubber ring inside the cable gland will narow itself and hold the cable in position. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 14 Phase 7 • Place the tubes under the pigtails. Phase 8 • Attach the loose tube to the splice tray by means on tie wraps. • Loop the fibres in the splicing-cassette to determine the right fibre length (foresee at least 2 loops) and cut the fibre. • Also loop the fibres of the pigtails in the cassette in the other direction as the loops of the cable-fibres to ensure correct positioning of the fibres for the splicing. Phase 9 • Affix the loose tube with tie-wraps to the base of the patch panel. Nexans Cabling Solutions • Installation Guide • Optical Fibre e-ssential Patch Panel - 15 Phase 10 • Then take the fibres out of the splice tray to do the splicing of. • Respect the colour coding.
