Activities with Natural Flow
Welcome to the LEGO® Education way to teach Activity Packs from LEGO® Education are developed by experienced educators and have a natural flow that engages and motivates students. We call it the 4C approach: Connect, Construct, Contemplate and Continue.
1 CONNECT 4 CONTINUE Extension ideas that present a new challenge within the same theme are provided. Students are encouraged to change or add features to their models, thereby leading them to a new Connect phase. This allows them to enter a positive learning spiral, in which they take on increasingly difficult challenges.
It is important to capture students’ interest in order to have a positive and motivating learning environment. LEGO® Education always begins with an engaging challenge introduced through real-life video clips, photos, stories or animations that students can relate to and find compelling.
2 CONSTRUCT 3 CONTEMPLATE Students think about what they have just constructed and achieved. They discuss the project at hand, reflect on and adapt their ideas, and teachers can encourage this process by asking questions.
8
ducklearning.com
Students work in teams to solve an open-ended building task related to the challenge. They make their own solutions, then plan, build and test their models or software programmes.

Innovation Lab by LEGO® Education in Science Centre Singapore, is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. The Innovation Lab provides a unique ‘hands-on, minds-on’ environment that supports and enriches the entire learning process. It’s an innovative way of both learning and teaching – one that will stimulate your students, motivate your teachers and enhance the wider academic reputation of your school. Research has shown that when we allow children to use multiple senses during the learning process, they have better chances of fully understanding and remembering what they have learned. We believe that more playful, creative and hands-on methods engage students of all abilities to achieve results. While this lends itself to the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) – a more progressive approach can be successfully applied to all curriculum subjects, including literacy. Tomorrow’s scientists and engineers are sitting in our classrooms today. Let’s build something that will transform these classrooms into places for creative and successful learning, as well as encourage and inspire students by bringing the subjects to life.

Competition and Events FIRST® LEGO® League
FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL ®) is an international enquiry-based programme teaching students ages 9 through 16 about science, technology and collaborative working. FLL® is a partnership between the non-profit organisation FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the LEGO® Group. It had its first season in 1998. Now over 230,000 students from 80 countries take part. Impact studies show that students gain an increased interest in science and technology by working with FLL®. FLL® does this by providing a practical and engaging way of involving students in the subject areas.
FIRST® LEGO® League Junior Junior FIRST® LEGO® League (JFLL), like the FLL, captures students’ curiosity and directs it toward science and technology. It is for children aged 6 to 9. Guided by an adult coach, students get to: • Design and build a Challenge-related LEGO model with motorised parts. • Create a ‘Show Me’ poster. • Present their work at an event to adult volunteer reviewers. Find out how you can get young students hooked on science and technology at FIRSTLEGOLEAGUE.SG

National Junior Robotics Competition The National Junior Robotics Competition (NJRC) is an exciting and unique event organised by Science Centre Singapore, Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR) and DSO National Laboratories. This robotics competition encourages students to develop problem-solving skills, entrepreneurial skills, creative thinking skills and team spirit among the participants. The NJRC is about celebrating the process of learning through interactive, meaningful experiences. Over the past 15 years, more than 45,000 participants and 220,000 supporters have gathered for this premier robotics competition. Every year, the NJRC revolves around a specific theme and a challenge is revealed to the students on the day of the Challenge Announcement.
Format of competition Presentation Week*: Teams present their work to a panel of judges and are assessed for a number of awards. Challenge Week*: Teams need to accomplish a mission using the robots that they have created. The mission comprises of a variety of tasks which the teams need to complete to earn points.
*It is compulsory for each team to participate in both Presentation Week and Challenge Week in order to win award(s).
Registration is done through Science Centre Singapore. For more details, go to njrc.com.sg.
