External Cable Interposer for Gen2 PCI Express User Manual and Quick Start Guide
1 Introduction.
This document describes how to set up and use the Teledyne LeCroy PCI Express 2.0 External Cable Interposer.
Teledyne LeCroy’s PCI Express 2.0 External Cable Interposer for the Summit™ PCI Express Protocol Analyzer product line provides a dedicated probe that makes it easy to capture and analyze data traffic between a host and device that are connected using an external PCI Express cable. The Teledyne LeCroy External Cable Interposer allows a protocol analyzer connection by tapping into the external iPass cable connection. The interposer is easily installed by connecting cables from the host and devices, and the interposer then provides a connection to allow an analyzer to capture and decode data traffic between the two systems. The External Cable Interposer supports PCI Express data channels with lane widths of x4 and x8 at all standard PCI Express data rates up to 5.0 GT/s.

Components
The PCIe® 2.0 External Cable Interposer includes the cable interposer chassis and an external 12V power supply. To use the interposer, additional iPass cables are required as follows: For x4 applications using Summit T34 or Summit T24: • x4-to-x8 straight iPass cable to connect to protocol analyzer (part number PE013UCA-X) • 2 each x4-to-x8 straight iPass cables (part number PE013UCA-X) For x4 applications using T3-16, T3-8, T34 Extended Mode or T28: • Y-Cable to connect to protocol analyzer (part number PE010UCA-X) • 2 each x4-to-x8 straight iPass cables (part number PE013UCA-X) For x8 applications using T3-16, T3-8, T34 Extended Mode or T28: • Y-Cable to connect to protocol analyzer (part number PE010UCA-X) • 2 each x8-to-x8 straight iPass cables (part number PE006UCA-X) In the event of damage, notify the shipper and Teledyne LeCroy. Retain all shipping materials for shipper’s inspection.

3 Hardware Installation Perform to the following steps to install the Interposer: 1. Connect one end of the x8-to-x8 straight iPass cable (or the x8 end of the x4-to-x8 straight iPass cable, if testing x4) to the Downstream port of the External Cable Interposer. Connect the other end of this cable to the Host system.
2. Connect one end of the other x8-to-x8 straight iPass cable (or the x8 end of the x4-to-x8 straight iPass cable, if testing x4) to the Upstream port of the External Cable Interposer. Connect the other end of this cable to the Device system. 3. Connect the x8 end of the Y-cable to the Analyzer port of the external cable interposer. The other two ends of the Y-cable are marked A and B. Connect the A end of the Y-cable to the Upstream port of the protocol analyzer. Connect the The B end of the Y-cable to the Downstream port of the analyzer. 4. Plug in the AC power adapter and plug the power cable into the 12V DC In port of the External Cable Interposer.
4 Recording Traffic
The system is now ready to record traffic using the Teledyne LeCroy PCIe Protocol Analysis software supplied with your protocol analyzer.
