QUICK START QUICK REFERENCE FOR DEPARTURE Updated 01/18/2012
The Quick Reference for Departure is in fact, just that---a short checklist and reminders. It assumes that the charter guest/operator is experienced and fully competent in the safe operation of a 30,000 pound, 41 foot power boat, knowledgeable of boating rules and has read the more detailed owner's manual for Eye Sea Forever. These notes cannot anticipate every situation that may arise. They are also not intended to take the place of reading the Owner's Manuel and other informational material located on the boat, dry locker starboard side, and next to stairwell to staterooms. No warranty is expressed or implied. NOTE: Bold lettering indicates safety items or key operations
Preparing For Departure 1. Engine Room checks should be done daily, before cruising. a. Open hatch at the portside aft hatch in front of salon entry door. Light is located on aft engine room firewall and is marked "lights". b. Enter the engine room and complete the engine room checklist shown in the Owner's Notes and posted on portside freshwater tank just below the engine room aft hatch. c. When engine room check is completed, turn off engine room light switch located on aft engine room firewall. Failure to do may needlessly depleat the batteries. 2. Disconnect shore power. a. At the helm station breaker panel, turn off the breaker labeled "shore" (yellow dots) on the AC lower panel. b. On the dock, first turn off the shower power circuit breaker at the pedestal on the dock, disconnect the yellow electrical cord from the pedestal. c. Retract the power cord using the Cablemaster toggle switch, located on the inside of the transom wall adjacent to cockpit sink cabinet, portside. Retracting
the power cord will require the aid of a second person standing on swim platform to keep the power cord out of the water. d. If the 30amp pigtail adapter was in use, remove and store in cockpit sink cabinet. 3. Turn on DC/Battery Power Review the power distribution on the 12volt DC Distribution Electrical Panel to make sure you have the appropriate circuits in the on position(green dots). The breakers marked with yellow dots (icemaker, seawater washdown, freezer, navigation lights, stereo, can be turned on as needed and turned off when not needed). 4. Close all portholes and hatches. Go below(master and guest staterooms and heads) and make sure all portholes and hatches are closed and secure. 5. Check around the boat. Review the exterior area around the hull, to confirm there are no obstacles in the water, or loose items that need to be secured. 6. Helm Check list a. Check the fuel level at the tank systems monitor on the portside of the helm station, and DOUBLE CHECK THE SITE TUBES ON THE FUEL TANKS IN THE ENGINE ROOM (Port and Starboard side). b. Turn on the RayMarine Radar, Chart Plotter, and Depth Sounder, SmartCraft Engine Monitor. c. Turn on VHF radios. Adjust to Channel 16 (general call channel and Coast Guard safety broadcasts). Continuously monitor Channel 16 when underway. On the opposite radio check the weather channels (1-10).
Getting Underway 1. Make sure shift lever is in neutral position .(vertical) 2. Start the engine with the ignition key on starboard side of helm station. 3. Check that cooling water is coming out of engine exhaust. ( Starboard aft side at lower corner of hull) If no water flow is visible, check in the engine room foreward starboard firewall to make sure seawater cooling valve is open (vertical position). This valve lever is marked with a blue stripe. 4. Let the engine idle for 4-5 minutes or until engine coolant temperature gauge ( on SmartCraft electronic monitor) reads above 100. 5. Turn on bow and stern thrusters by pushing two ON buttons simultaneously. The amber light between the buttons will illuminate. Toggle the joy sticks quickly in both directions to ascertain that the thrusters are functioning properly. * The thrusters are used primarily in maneuvering at or near the dock. In open water while underway, they are not effective. * The thrusters will turn off automatically after a period of non-use. Re-start in the same manner. The thrusters may overheat and stop after three minutes of continuous running. After brief cool down period they will re-set. Therefore it is best to operate the thrusters with short bursts of 6 OR 8 SECONDS OR LESS. Repeating these short bursts as needed. 6. Check wind and current directions.
7. Use the thrusters to control movement of bow and stern, while operating the throttle in short applications of forward and reverse, PAUSING IN NEUTRAL, as you maneuver in the marina. NOTE: When using reverse, the STERN WALKS TO STARBOARD.
CRUISING 1. When clear of marina, make sure all mooring lines, fenders, and anything loose are stowed. 2. Operate the engine at 1000 rpms for warmup (5 min). After 5 minute warm up,operate the engine no faster than 1400rpm until the coolant temperature reaches 140 degrees. 3. Monitor the engine functions at the helm station SmartCraft electronic monitor. * Volts should read between 13 and 14 at normal cruising. *Water temperature should be between 160 and 190 degrees. * Oil pressure should read between 30 and 80 psi depending on rpm. * Vacume gauge for RAYCOR fuel filters should read below 7 while cruising. 4. Using the Auto Pilot....
Returning to Dock 1. Fenders out and tied on the docking side of the boat, at the appropriate level for the dock. 2. The engine should be allowed to cool at idle speed for a few minutes before being turned off. 3. Once docked and the MOORING LINES ARE SECURE, turn off the engine. 4. Shut down RayMarine Multifunctional Displays and Chart plotter by pressing power button in lower left corner of each unit' and HOLDING for the countdown on the screen (four seconds). Please replace screen covers over the screens. 5. At the D/C POWER, turn of the breakers labeled "VHF and electronics".
Connecting to Shore Power 1. At the helm station electrical panel, make sure the gang ciruit breaker marked "SHORE POWER" is in the OFF position. 2. ON the portside of the cockpit, unscrew the large chrome cap labeled "GLENDINNING" and at the CableMaster switch on portside of cockpit sink cabinet, use the toggle switch to let out shore power cord. As the shore power cord is being played out, hand the end to someone standing on dock, so as not to allow the power cord to drop in the water. 3. Locate your power supply outlet on the dock, making sure breaker on dock pedestal is in OFF position. Determine ampage level on shore power pedestal. The main chord has a 50 amp end, there is a 30 amp pigtail adapter if needed in
the cockpit sink cabinet. Connect the electrical chord to the dock power pedestal, matching the prongs, twisting, and tightening. Turn the dock power breaker on. 4. Return to boat, and turn the SHORE POWER gang circuit breaker to the ON position. The BLUE SEA SYSTEMS MULTIMETER at upper left corner of A/C panel should read 110-120 volts if shore power is operating properly. Select appropriate A/C circuit breakers that you will be using and make sure they are in on position.
CLOSING THE BOAT 1. Close all windows and hatches. 2. On the D/C POWER circuit breaker panel at helm station; a. Turn OFF all breakers marked orange/yellow dots. Leave green dot marked breakers ON. 3. On the A/C POWER circuit breaker panel, leave yellow and green dot breakers ON, with the exception of the gang circuit breaker marked "generator" which will be in OFF position because you are hooked up to shore power. 4. Lock pilot house doors. Lock cockpit door as you leave. 5. On the dock, check position of all fenders and insure all mooring lines are secure.
