Matches: v Fulham FC (29.05.14) @ Surrey On bright Thursday morning we travelled up to New Malden to play the final game of the Season against a talented Fulham. The game started at a frantic pace and as expected the Fulham boys were very quick and played a very good possession game and soon went in front. Dorset though kept their heads up and tried to play our game which we did well but alas could not create any real goal scoring opportunities. The game was going from end to end but Fulham’s better conditioning was taking control and eventually added to the score line. We kept going even though they were all getting very tired on very warm day, and probably were not used to the pace of Academy football. Overall a good display from the players and what an experience to play one off the best academies around for their final game. Many thanks to Fulham for hosting the day. Huge thanks to all players, parents and guardians for all your efforts and support throughout the Season. v Yeovil Town FC (10.04.14) @ Yeovilton On a bright and sunny afternoon we travelled to the excellent surfaces at RNAS Yeovilton. With players missing and some returning from long term injuries, the shape of the team was a little different and in the first period it showed, as our usual high tempo passing and moving game was lacking. The game was going from end to end and it wasn't long before Yeovil went one up with a very good through ball between the centre backs with the forward finishing well! Ten minutes later they went two up with almost the same move and the Dorset boys were struggling to maintain control of the game. In the break after the first period, we layed out some individual and team challenges to the players. The second period started and went from end to end, but with some good passing play and pressure we pulled one back, by the end of the period we were equal at two apiece. The third period followed the same way as the first two with Yeovil going in front only for the Dorset boys to level, this continued into the final period with Yeovil taking the lead and then Dorset squaring the game. The most pleasing thing about the game was that we started slow but finished strong creating many chances only to be denied by their keeper’s excellent display and with players playing out of positions and returning from injury we were pleased with how the players responded. v AFC Bournemouth (21.02.14) @ Canford 3G Astro On a bright afternoon we played host to AFC Bournemouth on the impressive 3G astro at Canford. With almost a full squad, including two U13s and one trialist, the game got underway and it was evident from the start that both teams were eager to test themselves against one another. It wasn't long before both teams started to create chances with quality possession play by both teams and some excellent defending. With the game level after the first to periods Dorset took the lead quite deservedly as they were controlling the game with some good combination play and excellent defending. The last quarter saw Dorset extend their lead but our opponents still probing looking to counter. A very entertaining game with lots of quality from both sides! v Portsmouth FC (18.02.14) @ Havant On a dull but dry day we travelled on mass to Havant for another tough test against Portsmouth. With a smaller squad than normal (injuries) pleasingly two Under 15s and three Under 13s stepped up to ensure that we had a manageable squad on the day. As the match started, we looked bright and lively in possession of the ball, but it wasn't long before the Pompey boys capitalised on a mistake to go one up, and shortly after that went two nil up after intercepting a short pass, with the striker finishing well. The boys carried on and their heads never dropped but by now our hosts started to dominate possession. We gradually grew back into the game and created a few chances with some quality passing play but the day belonged to Portsmouth. Many thanks go to the players (and parents) that stepped in at short notice, and to all travelling supporters for their continued support of the boys. v Eastleigh FC (04.12.13) @ Redlands We entertained Eastleigh Academy on a rather frosty evening at Redlands Community Sports Hub; in this the last match of 2013 with the players looking to continue their good form in training and matches. It was evident from the start that the boys were trying to play the possession game that we have been working on in training and looked to link up with each other. The game went from end to end, with both sides looking to keep the ball with Dorset creating a couple of chances early on but we're unable to convert them and the first half ending in a goalless draw. The second half followed in the same manner with both teams having chances only for both keepers to make good saves. Eventually Dorset made the breakthrough and took the lead with some nice build up play and a good finish. Our visitors kept coming forward and won the ball just in their half and with some good passing play scored the equaliser. With the game going from end to end both teams created chances, and Dorset we're denied by some great saves by the Eastleigh keeper. The game finished on level terms and a lot of positives can be taken from this performance. v Exeter City FC (31.10.13) @ ISCA, Exeter The Under 14 squads second outing took them to Exeter to play a football festival, playing multiple matches against various Exeter Development Centres. The first game started and it was evident that the work we had done in training since our first game was showing with a very good passing and possession game on a very difficult pitch, the movement, passing and link up play was a-pleasure to watch but were unable to score with the chances we created. Over the next four games the boys played the same way with a high tempo possession game which resulted in three wins and another draw. But more important than the results was the performance and the hard work they all put in. Many thanks to the boys for there efforts and to all the parents for their support, and to Exeter City FC for a great day! v Southampton FC (28.09.13) @ Sulis Club, Bath The Dorset squad travelled to Bath full of excitement ahead of their first match v Southampton FC. With the rain stopped and the Dorset boys eager to play, the game started and it wasn't long before it became evident what a good side the Saints were through their quick passing and movement. It's fair to say that the Dorset boys started slowly and it wasn't long before they went behind to some quality play from a very impressive right winger! Slowly the boys came into the game and credit to them their heads never dropped, and they kept trying to play the type of football that they have been working on in training. With the game nearing the end Dorset won a free kick and this time they got their reward with a well taken goal. Although an extremely tough test, a great day all round for the squad, many thanks to all the travelling parents/guardians for their support. Many thanks from DCFA and myself to the parents for their support on the day.
