What is Automatic Installation of Jabra Sametime Plugin? Current JPCS users have to install the Jabra Sametime plugin manually in the IBM Sametime client to get the call control working with the Jabra headset. This new feature will install the plugin automatically during the softphone connection time. Do all versions of JPCS support this Automatic Installation of Jabra Sametime Plugin? No. JPCS version 2.11.XXXX or above has the support for automatic installation. What versions of Sametime clients supports Automatic Installation of Jabra Sametime Plugin? To support automatic installation of Jabra sametime plugin you need IBM Sametime v8.5.2 IFR1 or above. I have installed JPCS. I start the Sametime client. I see a window pop-up asking me to install the plugin. What should I do? Automatic Plugin installation triggers this pop-up. User needs to acknowledge this pop-up with a selection. I installed Sametime plugin automatically. How can I confirm the same? User can verify the installation by either of 2 ways: a. Check if the Sametime Driver status is connected in Jabra Device service. b. Login to Sametime client 8.5.2, then select tools -> Plugins -> Manage Plugins or you can Login to Sametime client 9.0 and select Actions & Preferences -> Plugins -> Manage Plugins. Application Management window will be displayed. You can find “Jabra Sametime Plugin Feature 3.0.2” How do I un-install the plugin. I do not see any option? User needs to manually un-install the plugin. Refer Uninstallation section in the Installation Guide.pdf for details
What happens if I choose the option “Do not Install this plugin”? The automatic plugin installation process will finish and plugin will not get installed. If the user has not installed the plugin and when the Sametime client is started next time, Automatic installation of plugin will kick-in and user would be prompted to select his choice. What happens if I select the option “Install this plugin”? Plugin gets installed. But when user uninstalls Jabra plugin and starts the Sametime client, Automatic installation of plugin will kick-in and user would again be prompted to select his choice. What happens if I select the option “Install this plugin and add the signer to my list of trusted signers”? Plugin gets installed and gets added to IBM keystore. The plugin is a trusted entry for the IBM Sametime. When user uninstalls Jabra plugin and starts the Sametime client, Automatic installation of plugin will kick-in silently and no prompt will come up. PC User1 installs the plugin. Does Sametime client call control will automatically work for PC user2? No. Sametime plugin is installed per user basis. The plugin installation popup dialog will appear for each Individual windows user on Sametime connection. Note: - Admin user case is an exception. If plugin is installed by admin, then the plugin is available to all other users and thereby call control will work for all the users. I have uninstalled Admin installed Jabra Sametime plugin from PC User. I can see that user installed plugin is broken. If I log in as Admin, I can still see the Admin installed plugin? IBM allows un-installing Admin version of Jabra plugin which gets the local user plugin to inconsistency state and not usable for call control. Note: User should not attempt to un-install other user plug-in, since it can lead to some inconsistencies.
PC User installed Jabra plugin. System Admin also installed the same. What happen if Admin uninstalls the Jabra plugin? When System Admin uninstalls the Jabra plugin, PC user installed plugin will also automatically get uninstalled. What if I Install JPCS first and then Sametime client? Sametime client works differently for User and Admin roles. If a windows user installs JPCS and then installs Sametime client, plugin installation popup window does not come up. If windows admin is doing the above installation activity then plugin installation dialog will come up. Work around suggested for Normal User: When logged in as Standard User, a restart of the sametime client as well as the device service is necessary to get automatic plugin installation popup. I have the sametime plugin installed automatically, but call control with headset is not working? Sometimes the plugin will get installed, but the call control with headset might not work. If the user goes to the plugin installed path, an error symbol is shown against the plugin name. This means sametime plugin is not installed properly.
Work around suggested: User has to manually uninstall the Jabra plugin from Sametime client and restart the device service.
I have the IBM Notes installed in my PC and running IBM Embedded Sametime client. Can I get automatic plugin popup window? Yes. The pop-up to install plugin will appear as soon as the JPCS is started How can I uninstall the Jabra plugin from my Notes client (Embedded Sametime)? You need to manually uninstall the Jabra Plugin from IBM Notes. Select Application Management option in the Notes to uninstall the Jabra plugin.
Note: If the Application Management option is not visible, please follow the steps to un-install the Jabra Plugin. a. Open the plugin_customization.ini file. This file present in path “C :\< Program Files>\IBM\Notes\framework\rcp ”. b. Edit the file and add “com.ibm.notes.branding/enable.update.ui=true” attribute at the end of the file.
c. Restart the IBM Notes. d. Application Management option should be now visible.
I have standalone IBM Sametime and IBM Lotus Notes installed and both have been started up. I start the JPCS. Does the Jabra plugin get installed to both the clients? Yes. Two plugin installation popups will come up. One for standalone IBM Sametime Connect client and other for embedded Sametime client (for Lotus Notes). With mouse click on the popup window, client to which plugin is installing will be highlighted. I installed Sametime plugin into both standalone and Embedded Sametime (in Lotus Notes). I login to both the clients. Will call control work with both the clients using a Jabra headset? The call control will only work for the sametime client to which the IBM Sametime driver is connected to. The connection to the client happens where user has first logged in. I have standalone IBM Sametime and Embedded Sametime both logged in. IBM Sametime driver is connected to one of the clients. I want to have call control with the other client. I exit the “Connected” client, but the IBM Sametime driver status in Device service shows“Not Connected”. How do I get the connection up with the other client to have remote call control? Current SW design limits the plugin and driver connection to both the clients and having call control with both of them. Work Around: a. Exit the Sametime client (to which the driver needs to get connected) b. Start the Sametime client again. c. Restart Jabra Device Service. This should get the driver connected to the Sametime client and remote call control will work with the Sametime client.
