INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The FBR-16V(M/S)-TX and FBR-16V(M/S)-RX operate as a transmitter / receiver pair for the transmission of sixteen baseband NTSC or PAL video signals over a single multimode or single-mode fiber. The FBR-16V(M/S)-TX converts sixteen video inputs to an optical fiber output. The FBR-16V(M/S)-RX converts an optical fiber input into sixteen video outputs. These units are contained in compact and rugged steel housings with internal dc voltage regulation. The detachable terminal blocks and LED indicators provide for easy installation and monitoring of video, optical link, and dc power. The units operate mounted in a standard EIA 19-inch rack or cabinet. See Figure 1 for a physical configuration of the units. INSTALLATION THE INSTALLATION OF THIS UNIT SHOULD BE MADE BY A QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSON(S) AND MUST CONFORM TO ALL LOCAL CODES. The general connectivity of the units is detailed in Figure 2. Mount the unit in a rack/cabinet using screws that are appropriate for the rack/cabinet being used. POWER SOURCE The unit requires a +12VDC power source for proper operation. The DC input is diode protected against reverse polarity connection. In the USA and in Canada, an Aventura Technologies FBR-PSUS12DC2A is supplied with this unit. Contact Aventura Technologies for ordering power supply units for use in countries other than the USA and Canada. POWER CONNECTION Power is supplied to the unit via a two-pin detachable terminal block connector. Follow the labeling on the unit for proper connections of the +12 volt dc and ground leads. VIDEO INPUT/OUTPUT CONNECTION The video input and output connections are made via BNC connectors on the front of the units. The video inputs and outputs are 75 ohms. For proper operation, the video outputs must be terminated with 75 ohms. For optimum performance, the use of the shortest practical length of coax cables is recommended. FIBER CONNECTION The fiber optic connections are made via ST (multimode fiber) or FC (single-mode fiber) connectors, located on the front of the units.

STATUS INDICATORS The units provide the following LED status indicators to aid in installation and troubleshooting: POWER INDICATOR There are two bi-color LED indicators that monitor the voltage at the module’s power input connector and the operating internal voltage of the module. One LED is located on the front panel and the second LED is located on the rear panel, next to the power connector. Both LED indicators act in unison. The power status associated with this LED is summarized below. Power Indicator Green Red Off
Power Status Proper Input Voltage Present – Proper Internal Operating Voltage Present Proper Input Voltage Present – Internal Operating Voltage Faulty No Input Voltage Detected
OPTICAL LINK INDICATOR A bi-color LED indicator monitors the power of, and proper synchronization with the optical input signal that is being received at the FBR-16V(M/S)-TX and/or FBR-16V(M/S)-RX. The optical link status associated with this LED is summarized below. Optical Link Indicator Green Red Off
Optical Status Proper Optical Input Present Optical Input Not Detected Check Power Supply
VIDEO INPUT INDICATORS A bi-color LED indicator for each video input channel of the FBR-16V(M/S)-TX monitors the status of the video input. The video input status associated with these LEDs is summarized below. Video Input Indicator Green Red Off
Video Input Status Proper Video Input Present Video Input Not Correct (Wrong Level or Polarity) No Video Input Detected
