Feeding the “Speaker Out” terminals off the UVS into a third-party amplifier: (This information is to be used “AS –IS” and has not been endorsed by Honeywell engineering. This document was put together based on Technical Support experience and is intended to be used responsibly and with further testing on the part of the user). “Speaker-Out” Specifications of the UVS: Terminal positions 21 - 27 of the UVS are ~50 ohm ac source impedance, nominal 1v rms signal output, ~3v rms max. The Speaker Out terminals of the UVS are not a “Line In” signal source. That means they are too “strong” for a typical audio-input on an amplifier. However, many amplifiers do offer an “Auxiliary Input” that does handle a “speaker out” input. Auxiliary Inputs can’t handle everything, but most of them will probably handle the UVS output. It is best to refer to the amp’s Installation Instructions for Aux Input specs, or call the manufacturer for more info. We have had at least one customer successful in doing this, and we do imagine that others have been successful as well. It is not uncommon to have a connection of this type – that’s why amp builders have Aux Inputs. Other sources of information: • • • ADI probably sells amplifiers. They can probably find an amp that would have an aux-in that would work Radio Shack sells PA systems that have Aux input amps. Check with Black Box distributors. They have a bit of everything it seems. http://www.blackbox.com
