This caution applies to any point in the system where the laser signal can be “accessed” (for example, at the bare fiber ends). 3) Quick reference cables length. Page 3/10 Fiber Express Ultra Rack Mount Distribution Panel 1U PX104493-EN Release B Page 4/10 C) Cable preparation 1) See Figure 1 and Table 1 to prepare the fiber cables properly. 2) Make a mark on the outer/distribution sheath at “A” from the end of the cable (if there is no outer sheath, go directly to step 4) for distribution cable or step 5) for campus cable. 3) Remove the outer cable sheath up to the mark and, if necessary, clean. 4) Distribution cable i) Make a mark on the sheaths of the distribution cables at “B”. ii) Remove the cable sheaths up to the mark and, if necessary, clean. iii) Cover the transition zones with heat shrink tube or electrical tape. iv) Secure the outer/distribution cable at the “A” mark with two cable ties. v) Secure the distribution cables at the “B” mark with a cable tie. Be careful not to bend the cables to tight. Attach the Aramid strength elements to the panel (hole in the back flange) and cut the excess. vi) Follow the steps of section F) or H) according to the type of installation required. Fiber Express Ultra Rack Mount Distribution Panel 1U PX104493-EN Release B 5) Campus cables i) If using a shielded Campus cable, prepare the ground kit as per section E) and come back to step iv), if not, continue. ii) Insert 2 buffer tubes in a Flex tube and secure it to the central member. The flex tube should be as Table 1. Repeat for all the buffer tubes. iii) Cover the transition zones with heat shrink tube or electrical tape. iv) Follow the steps of section G) or H) according to the type of installation required. D) Connecting fibers to the loaded frame 1) Pull all the bezels to the front of the frame. 2) Push and retain the bezels one at the time to connect the fibers. Once the fibers are connected to a bezel, pull it back. 3) Once all the fibers are connected, push all the bezels back. Page 5/10 Fiber Express Ultra Rack Mount Distribution Panel 1U PX104493-EN Release B Page 6/10 E) Installing the ground kit 1) Keep the central member and rip the outer sheath at ‘D’. 2) Punch a hole in the middle of the sheath at 4 cm (1.6 in.) from the end. 3) If necessary, pre-form the bond and insert it as per the cable diameter. 4) Close the sheath and cover with electrical tape. 5) Install the clamp and the nut. 6) Insert 2 buffer tubes in a flex tube, see Table 1, and secure it to the central member. 7) Insulate the bond clamp and the transition zone with heat shrink tube or electrical tape. 8) Install the ground lug and the ground wire. Insert the central member in the ground lug and cut the excess. Fiber Express Ultra Rack Mount Distribution Panel 1U PX104493-EN Release B Page 7/10 F) Distribution Cable 1) Run the appropriate 900µm fibers through the desired front rack access. 2) Terminate the fiber to the loaded frame (refer to step D). 3) Fix the loaded frames to the front rack and secure the fibers with a Kurly Lock. Insure fiber loose to permit the 1" pull out of the bezels. 4) Replace the front racks to there specified places. 5) Run the buffered fibers through the spools as shown. 6) Repeat to fill the distribution panel. Fiber Express Ultra Rack Mount Distribution Panel 1U PX104493-EN Release B Page 8/10 G) Fiber Breakout Kit 1) Make a mark on the buffer tube at “C” and install the Fiber Breakout Kit at this mark as per PX101701. 3) Secure the flex tube and the Fiber Breakout Kit to the proper hooks. 2) Secure the outer cable at the “A” mark and the flex tube with a cable tie. 4) Run the appropriate pigtails through the desired front rack access. 5) Terminate the fiber to the loaded frame (refer to step D). 6) Fix the loaded frames to the front rack and secure the pigtails with a Kurly Lock. Insure fiber loose to permit the 1" pull out of the bezels. 7) Replace the front racks to there specified places. 8) Run the pigtails through the spools as shown. 9) Repeat to fill the distribution panel. Fiber Express Ultra Rack Mount Distribution Panel 1U PX104493-EN Release B Page 9/10 H) Fusion Kit 1) Cut the pigtails to 1.94m (76") long. 2) As shown, fiber length should be respected. Fusion should be made as per installation guide of AX103914. N.B - Pigtails are always attached on the top right of the tray. - Fibers are always attached on the top left of the tray. Fiber = 0.97m (38") Pigtails = 0.94m (37") Pigtails in tray = 1m (39") FRONT PANEL 3) Stack the fusion trays and place them in between the spools. 4) Run the fibers around the trays and through the spools as shown. X 5) Run the pigtails around the trays, through the spools and the desired front rack, as shown. 6) Connect the pigtails to the frames and fix the loaded frames to the front rack, secure the fibers with a Kurly Lock. Do not install the spool on the front rack, unless only one cassette is used. 2) Insert the front racks in the distribution panel and remove the central spools. 3) Attach the MPO cables to the hook and run it through the spools as shown. Note: Keep a service loop inside the panel to allow the eradication of the cassettes For additional information, call 1-800-belden1 Copyright 2008, Belden Inc.
