Field-Replaceable Unit Guide Replacing the Codec
Preliminary Steps for Setting a New Codec This section describes things that you must do before connecting the replacement codec to the Cisco TelePresence System 1000.
Register the Replacement Codec with Cisco Unified Communications Manager You must register the replacement codec with Unified CM before you power up the Cisco TelePresence System 1000. Registering the codec on Unified CM is beyond the scope of this document. You can find information about how to register the codec with Unified CM in the following document: Cisco Unified Communications Manager Installation Guide for The Cisco TelePresence System. You can find the latest version of the document at the following website: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/prod_installation_guides_list.html For the registration, you will need the following information: •
MAC address of the codec
•
Name of room in which the Cisco TelePresence system is installed
•
MAC address of Cisco IP phone (on label on bottom of phone)
Configuring the Codec The codec must be assigned a valid IP address for your network and provided routing information it will use to communicate with the Unified CM and other network devices. The codec is configure at the factory to use DHCP to retrieve IP address information. You can also assign a static IP address to the unit. The codec must have IP address information for the TFTP servers that the Unified CM uses. When DHCP is used, TFTP server information can be provided automatically by enabling the 150 option in the DHCP scope for Unified CM. Be sure that only the TFTP servers for the Unified CM that Cisco TelePresence system uses are represented. If the 150 option is not enabled, you must manually provide this information to the codec. This section describes how to manually configure the codec with an IP address.
Note
The Unified CM will automatically assign an IP address to the Cisco IP phone.
Getting the Default IP Address The codec is shipped with a default IP address that can be used to access the codec administration page. To obtain the default IP address, complete the following steps: Step 1
Locate the bank of Ethernet ports on the codec and plug one end of a network cable into the socket in the row nearest the HD Video sockets and farthest from the immediate edge.
Step 2
Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port in a personal computer.
Step 3
Plug a power cord into the codec and a wall outlet.
Step 4
Turn the power switch on the codec to the On position. The codec may take a few minutes to initialize.
Step 5
On the personal computer, select Start > Run.
Step 6
In the dialog box, type cmd. An editor appears.

Replacing the Codec
Step 7
In the editor, type ipconfig.
Step 8
Locate the “Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection” section and write down value listed for the IP address.
Step 9
Determine the default IP address for the codec by decrementing the listed IP address value by one. For example, if the listed IP Address is 10.0.0.2, the codec address would be 10.0.0.1.
Step 10
Write the codec IP address down.
Assigning the Codec a Static IP Address This section describes how to assign the codec a static IP address. To assign the codec a static IP address, complete the following steps: Step 1
Open an Internet browser on the computer.

Step 8
Choose Communications Manager Settings. The Unified CM Associations page appears.
Step 9
In the Unified CM page, complete the following steps:
Step 10
a.
Make sure that the Use Cisco Communications Manager parameter is set to Yes.
b.
Change the Use Configuration TFTP Server parameter to Specify.
c.
In the TFTP Server 1 field, enter the IP address of the Cisco Communications Manager server that you want the Cisco TelePresence system to use.
d.
