This Field Service Bulletin is provided for information only. These changes are part of our commitment to continuous product improvement. There is no need to change the firmware configuration of existing TOC analyzers that are not equipped with an Inorganic Carbon Removers (ICR). Please refer to the tables at the end of this bulletin to order or obtain upgrade kits, firmware and documents. There are no changes to 900 DataPro Software versions. ICR Firmware Enhancement In February of 2011, an upgraded version of the degasser module within the ICR was released as a result the firmware was updated. For specifics about the improved degasser module, please refer to Field Service Bulletin UPW 11-02. There is no need to upgrade your analyzer unless it is equipped with an ICR. The firmware upgrade needs to take place when replacing the degassing module of the ICR. We recommend that all maintenance activities for both the analyzer and the ICR take place prior to the upgrade. We recommend performing verification of calibration after the firmware upgrade to demonstrate that the new firmware has no impact on the instrument performance. Instructions for verifying ICR performance are listed in the updated ICR Operations Manual found at www.geinstruments.com. ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN: Description of Changes to firmware version 1.31. This firmware is run on the 900 instruments equipped with the RS-232 System Board. 1. 2.
Changed the version to 01.32 Reduced the sample and reagent flowrates in the initialization phase of analysis when the ICR is on. This change was made to accommodate the new degassing module. 3. Changed the criteria for Warnings 27 and 28 to skip the first seven readings after starting analysis. 4. Increased threshold for Warning 28 to accommodate the new degassing module.
Firmware Kits – The firmware kit, CASK 96450-02, comes with installation instructions. Directions within the instructions will explain how to download the applicable Operations and Maintenance Manual, and Volume I of the Validation Support Package, if applicable. To download the firmware and supporting documentation, go to www.geinstruments.com. For firmware, click on Support, then Software/Firmware Upgrades. Look for the 900 Series and click on the appropriate version. After you click on the appropriate version you will be asked to complete a form. Or you may enter the Password that is on your analyzer’s Quick Start Guide. If you do not know the Password, complete the form and then Technical Support Group will send you the password for access to the download. The download includes two instruction files. One file will provide directions for arranging the files on a USB. The other file provides directions on how to perform the actual upgrade of the analyzer. All DataPro Versions 1.20 or greater will work with all analyzer firmware 1.20 or greater. Therefore, there is no need to change DataPro if its version is within this guideline. However to have the full features offered in DataPro you must have the current firmware versions. Directions in the installation instructions explain how to download the Operation and Maintenance Manuals and Volume I of the Validation Support Package. All documents are written in English.
