CSJ 0914-00-280 2004 Specification SPECIAL SPECIFICATION 8344 Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter 1. Description. Furnish, install, and make fully operational a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter at designated locations as shown on the plans and as detailed in accordance with these specifications. Use the same manufacturer and model for each Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter. The Gigabit Ethernet Converter converts Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 electrical signals to single mode optical format and from single mode optical format to Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 electrical format to connect Gigabit Ethernet switches across large distances. 2. Materials. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter unit that meets the following requirements. A. General Requirements. Provide only equipment that is new, corrosion resistant and in strict accordance with the details shown on the plans and in the specifications. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter that is fully compatible with the proposed Gigabit Ethernet switch. B. Gigabit Ethernet Interface Requirements. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter unit that has the following Gigabit Ethernet interface features:  A RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet interface port and a single mode 1000Base-Lx interface port  Supports IEEE 802.3ab 1000Base-Sx/Lx and 1000Base-T standards C. Gigabit Ethernet Interface Configuration. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter unit with an electrical Gigabit Ethernet interface that has the following features:  Compatible with Category 5 or higher  RJ-45 connector D. Single mode Interface Configuration. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter unit with a single mode interface that has the following features:  1310 nm media wavelength  -12 dBm minimum transmit optical power  -20 dBm minimum receive sensitivity  Minimum 8db loss budget  Drives up to 10 km of 8.3/125 micron single mode fiber optical cable  SC single mode fiber optic duplex female connector 1-3 8344 06-09 E. Additional Features. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter unit that has the following additional features:  Visual Indicators to display status of the following:  Power  Fiber link/activity  UTP link/activity  Full/half duplex F. Regulatory Approvals. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter that has been certified to the following regulatory standards:  Product Safety: Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard 1950 or 60950 G. Dimensions. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter with dimensions that do not exceed the following maximums:  Height: 3 in.  Width: 8 in.  Depth: 7 in.  Weight: 2 lb. H. Power. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter that meets the following power specifications: I. 3.  120 V AC  60 Hz  10 W maximum power consumption  LED power status indicator Environmental. Provide a Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter that is designed to operate in the following environmental conditions:  -0ºC to 70ºC operating temperature range  -40ºC to 80ºC storage temperature range  0-90% relative humidity (non-condensing) Construction Methods. A. General. Provide equipment that utilizes the latest available techniques for design and construction with a minimum number of parts, subassemblies, circuits, cards, and modules to maximize standardization and commonality. Design the equipment for ease of maintenance. Provide component parts that are readily accessible for inspection and maintenance. Provide test points that are for checking essential voltages and waveforms. B. Electronic Components. Provide electronic components in accordance with Special Specification, “Electronic Components”. 2-3 8344 06-09 C. Mechanical Components. Provide external screws, nuts and locking washers that are stainless steel; no self-tapping screws will be used. Provide parts made of corrosion resistant material, such as plastic, stainless steel, anodized aluminum or brass. Protect materials from fungus growth and moisture deterioration. Separate dissimilar metals by an inert dielectric material. 4. Documentation Requirements. Provide documentation in accordance with Article 4, of Special Specification, “Testing, Training, Documentation, Final Acceptance, and Warranty”. 5. Testing Requirements. Perform testing in accordance with Article 2, of Special Specification, “Testing, Training, Documentation, Final Acceptance, and Warranty.” 6. Warranty. Provide a warranty in accordance with Article 6, of Special Specification, “Testing, Training, Documentation, Final Acceptance and Warranty.” Experience Requirements. The Contractor or designated subcontractors involved in the installation and testing of the Gigabit Ethernet Media Converters shall, as a minimum, meet the following requirements: Three years experience in the installation Gigabit Ethernet equipment. Two installed systems where Gigabit Ethernet switches are installed and the systems have been in continuously satisfactory operation for at least 2 year. The Contractor shall submit as proof, photographs or other supporting documents, and the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the operating personnel who can be contacted regarding the system. Provide necessary documentation of subcontractor qualifications pursuant to contract award. 7. Training. Provide training in accordance with Article 3, of Special Specification, “Testing, Training, Documentation, Final Acceptance and Warranty.” 8. Measurement. This Item will be measured as each unit furnished, installed, and tested. 9. Payment. The work performed and materials furnished in accordance with this Item and measured as provided under “Measurement” will be paid for at the unit price bid for “Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter.” This price is for equipment, cables and connectors; documentation and testing; and labor, materials, warranty, training and incidentals. 3-3 8344 06-09
