CKR1500 DIMMER SWITCH Zano dimmer switches are designed to control single or groups of electric lamps. The maximum and minimum ratings specified on the rear of the dimmer must be observed, otherwise the dimmer may be damaged, invalidating the guarantee. Mains operated Tungsten Halogen lamps (eg GU10/GZ10) must incorporate an integral fuse to protect the dimmer on lamp failure. GE, Osram Philips & Sylvania fused lamps are recommended. No de-rating of the dimmer is required for these lamps as the ‘Soft start’ facility limits the inrush current on start up. 1000 Watts Transformer connected L.V. lighting. Please see separate sheet supplied for more information and advice on dimming Low Voltage lighting. CKR2500 dimmers require a flush MK895 wall box or optional Richmond ref CK2500BOX surface box. CKR3500 dimmers are supplied with a surface mounting box. The Dimmer front plate and metal wall box must be earthed. Installation Instructions General Wiring Diagrams Dimmer compatibility is essential prior to connecting any form of lamp load. The CKR1500 dimmer is suitable for the following loads: 1500 Watts GLS/Tungsten Lighting. FIRST SWITCH OFF SUPPLY AT MAINS 1-Way switching 1. Switch off at mains and remove existing switch, carefully noting which terminals the wires are connected to. 2. Connect the wires to the dimmer in accordance with the relevant diagram shown. 3. Fit the dimmer into the wall box ensuring no wires are trapped between the plate and the wall box, and secure with the two screws provided. Do not overtighten the fixing screws. Live In Switch Live Var. Neutral Lamp 4. Finally recheck suitability of lamp/load. If in any doubt contact Zano on 0845 519 5858. 5. Switch on the mains supply and the dimmer is now ready for use. 2-Way switching 6. If a slight buzz is heard, this is quite normal and will not harm the unit. After it has been running for some time the dimmer may feel warm to the touch. Live In Switch When wiring the dimmer 2-way, only use a switch as the other control. DO NOT put 2 dimmers on the same circuit. Live Var. Lamp Neutral DIMMING OF LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING There are two types of transformer generally available for low voltage lighting, wire wound & electronic. They are dimmable as follows : WIRE WOUND TRANSFORMERS All wire wound transformers are intrinsically dimmable ( torroidal transformers require a soft start dimmer). They can be dimmed either with a normal immer capable of handling the inductive nature of the load, or with a hard fired dimmer. Zano dimmers ( except economy range) are suitable for both mains &low voltage loads, but note that the dimmer rating is reduced when controlling low voltage loads. ELECTRONIC TRANSFORMERS. Electronic dimmers are not as simple to classify as wire wound types. Some are not dimmable at all, some need a hard fired dimmer & some need a trailing edge dimmer. Some are dimmable with all dimmers. If you are planning to use electronic transformers it is advisable to contact zano controls to ensure the correct dimmer is specified. Electronic dimmers have a tendancy to buzz more than wire wound but are usually lighter. Care should be taken with the siting of all transformers. All types give off heat & it is important that they’re not installed in a space will prevent cooling of the transformers. Transformer manufacturers generally recommend that transformers are loaded to a minimum of70% of their rating when being dimmed. Lower loadings can cause flickering & poor operation of the dimmer/transformer. Where installations of wire wound transformers have only one or two lamps on a dimmer we recommend the use of a load resistor. This is wired in parallel with the transformer and provides the dimmer with protection in the event of lamp failiure.
