FMT-100 USB Adapter Installation Guide 1. Insert the FMT-100 USB Adapter into your PC. 2. Depending on your version of Windows the adapter will either automatically install or prompt you to install the correct setup files. If it automatically installs, then you can jump to Step 9. 3. Copy the correct drivers for your operating system to your Hard Drive, e.g. if you are using a Windows XP machine copy the Windows XP drivers. These can be found on our website. 4. Go to ‘Control Panel’. Select the ‘System’ option. The ‘System Properties’ box will be shown. Click the ‘Hardware’ tab and select ‘Device Manager’. The following box will be shown displaying all the hardware on your computer. 5. Select the newly added USB device ‘FT232R USB UART’ with a yellow warning sign, ‘Right click’ this and click ‘Update Driver’ 6. A dialog box may appear, select the ‘yes, this time only’ option and click ‘Next’. 7. Select ‘Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)’ and click ‘Next’. Check the ‘Include this location in the search:’ box and location the saved driver by click ‘Browse’. Colter Products Ltd Page 1 8. Once you have located the driver click ‘Next’. Your computer will search for the driver in the location you specified and install it. 9. Once this is complete your USB adapter should be installed on your computer and be ready to use. 10. The USB adapter should be displayed under the ‘Ports’ heading in the ‘Device Manager’, with the corresponding port number. Make a note of the COM number used for the USB adapter (COM3 in the screenshot below). 11. Open Flex 32, Flex 64 or Flex 64 Basic depending on which version of Windows you are using. These can be obtained from our website: www.coltergroup.co.uk Colter Products Ltd Page 2 12. Go to: Options – PC Comms Port in the Flex Menu and then select the correspond Port Number that you noted earlier. 13. Open the Project you wish to download to the FMT-100 14. Connect the Adapter to the FMT-100 and power up the FMT-100. Wait around 10 seconds for the FMT to startup. 15. Click Run to Download your project to the FMT-100. Troubleshootings An error is received when attempting to download to the FMT  i. Ensure the port settings in device manager are set to: Baud Rate: 9600, Data bits: 8, Parity: 1, Stop bits: None ii. Close Flex, Disconnect the USB adapter and switch off the FMT, then jump to step 11 above. iii. Go to: Options – PC Comms Port in the Flex Menu and then select a different COM port number to the one that the USB adapter is using – an error may be displayed. Now go to: Options – PC Comms Port again and re-select the initial COM port number corresponding to the USB adapter. The USB adapter isn’t listed in Device manager.  i.  Try moving the USB lead to a different USB socket. The drivers may have to be re-installed. The COM port number displayed in Device manager is above COM4 (e.g. COM8) and can’t be selected in Flex 32. i. Download and install Flex 64 and re-try.
