MANAGEABLE MEDIA CONVERTER CARD XX
The FOCIR is an Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet media converter, or dual-port switch card, from copper to fiber or fiber to fiber. This card and the transported link are fully manageable from the AMSMEDIA16-SNMP chassis. The FOCIR fully supports administration of the distant FOCI device over the fiber ‘’in-band’’ utilizing a proprietary protocol. The FOCIR is a media conversion card especially designed for the CXR AMSMEDIA16-SNMP Media Converter Center. This card can be set up locally via DIPswitches as an automatic media converter without centralized management, or can be fully managed via the AMS-MEDIA16SNMP chassis, complete with alarm and traffic monitoring. The FOCIR is designed to industry standards, converting Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet interfaces according to IEEEE-802.3. These cards support distances over 120km, and CWDM with fixed optical transmitters, or by using the appropriate SFP module. This solution is particularly suited for larger Ethernet optical networks, as it delivers monitoring functions for both the WAN connection and the UTP Ethernet port. The “Link Pass-Through” feature advises the switch at the central site of problems at
the distant connected device when one UTP is disconnected, or there is an optical link fault. The FOCIR is also available as a purely optical converter; 100FX multi-mode to single-mode, or 1000SX to 1000LX, or as a dual port 10/100BaseT to 100FX fiber or 10/100/1000BaseT to 1000SX/LX/ZX fiber switch. Manageable cards can be set for UTP speed, duplex, MDI/MDIX, rate limiting with 1 Mbps setps, and broadcast rate limiting. Local and distant loops can be conveniently established via front panel controls, or with via management. Each FOCIR card is equipped with a RMON probe to process statistic analysis of Ethernet frames, and to monitor line and subscriber traffic without intrusion. The FOCIR card manages also the FOCI media converter module when connected to the line.
SIMPLE CONVERSION OR DISTRIBUTION OF OPTICAL WAN The CXR AMS-MEDIA16 Media Converter Center with FOCIR cards is a powerful and cost effective solution that connects to a number of FOCI remote intelligent and standalone converters in an Ethernet network access application, and interconnects equipment from any vendor according to the IEEE 802.3/.3u/3ab/3z standard. The link pass-trough feature gives the switch full transparency of the media conversion over the optical link.
The AMS-MEDIA16 Media Converter Center with FOCIR cards and the distant FOCI devices is a very efficient solution for large infrastructures optical LAN deployment, with the capability to adapt and to monitor each link, including 1+1 protection and the rate limitation.
