IRIX Versions backdraft 5.5.4 can run under IRIX® 6.5.21f and 6.5.23f. For more information, refer to the IRIX 6.5.21f Installation Guide or the IRIX 6.5.23f Installation Guide, both available at www.discreet.com: go to the Support page, click Documentation, then Documentation Library, and expand the IRIX folder. Related Documentation You can find complete documentation for recent releases of all products in the Discreet® documentation library on the Discreet Web site. At www.discreet.com, go to the Support page, click Documentation, then Documentation Library, and download any of the available files. 1 backdraft 5.5.4 Release Notes Note that to access this area, you need a user name and password. You receive these when you register your product. Viewing PDFs with Xpdf With the installation of IRIX 6.5.23f, Xpdf becomes the default PDF viewer on SGI workstations. It remains the default viewer on Linux® workstations. Selecting a PDF file from the PDF Documentation box opens up the file in the Xpdf application. You can also open any PDF file in Xpdf from a shell. NOTE: All Discreet documentation in PDF format can also be opened with the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™. To view PDF files on an SGI or a Linux workstation: 1. In a shell, type: xpdf 2. Press Enter. NOTE: On Linux systems, a warning message stating: Cannot convert string “-*-times-medium-rnormal--16-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1” to type Fontstruct may appear upon loading a PDF file. This is a problem with the version of Xpdf and does not affect the PDF file; you can ignore it. WARNING: On most IRIX systems, expanding all bookmarks in very large PDF files—generally more than 2000 pages, causes the system to log out or crash. This would only happen, for example, when opening a Discreet Effects or Editing product’s User’s Guide in Xpdf on an IRIX system, then manually expanding all the bookmarks in the file. This behaviour is an Xpdf bug. Contacting Discreet If you need more information, contact Discreet Technical Support at one of the following numbers. You can also send queries by e-mail. 2 Software Issues [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Licensing Issues [email protected] System or Linux Issues [email protected] Beta Manager [email protected] Installing Additional IRIX Patches ❚❘❘ Installing Additional IRIX Patches Installing backdraft 5.5.4 on a Tezro, an Onyx 3200, or an Onyx 350 also installs new IRIX patches and packages. After installing backdraft, do the following to complete the installation of several IRIX patches. To complete the installation: 1. Flash the PROM using the following commands: su flash -v If IRIX reports that the version numbers are identical, proceed to the next step. Otherwise, wait until the PROM is flashed before proceeding to the next step. 2. Flash the System Controller using the following commands: su cd /usr/cpu/firmware flashsc --sc 11.bin local If IRIX reports that the versions numbers are identical, your installation of IRIX is up-todate and you do not have to do any of the following steps. Otherwise, proceed to step 3. 3. Type: halt -p The system flashes the System Controller and then shuts down. 4. On the Tezro, disconnect the power cord. On the Onyx 3200 or Onyx 350, disconnect the power cord from the compute bricks. 5. Wait 5 seconds. 6. On the Tezro, reconnect the power cord. On the Onyx 3200 or Onyx 350, reconnect the power cord to the compute bricks. 7. Boot up the machine. 720p 10-bit Drop-Frame Fix for Octane2 On the Octane2™, the IRIX patch 5687 resolves the problem of dropped frames when playing 720p 10-bit projects. The patch is installed automatically when you upgrade the application. 3 backdraft 5.5.4 Release Notes Archiving with the Sony DTF2 When archiving with the Sony™ DTF2 you must use firmware version 1.41. 4
