Front Panel On/Off Modulation set-up Indication LED Modulation set-up Optical power set-up Indication LED Output optical power set-up Temperature stabilization Indication LED Optical Output Connector Back Panel RS232 interface Power Supply External modulation input 1 OFLS User guide Light Source The light source provides optical power of central wavelength, bandwidth (FWHM), maximal output power as described in Measurement report. Mentioned values are typical one and are dependent on used optical components. The temperature of optical component is stabilized by inner thermostat. The output optical power can be modulated. Power Supply The Optical Fiber Light Source has to be power supplied by stabilized DC voltage 4,5V ± 0,15V. Maximal current is 1,5A. The power supply is always delivered with the light source. Switch On/Off The light source is switched on/off by press button „On/Off“. When the source is switched on the „Term” red indication LED diode is light up and the temperature of stabilization in thermostat is processing. The „Term” LED color is changed to green .after the stabilization thermostat temperature is reached. The inner threshold temperature is set up to 17°C. This change of LED indication diode means, thermostat temperature is stabilized with accuracy of ± 0,01°C. This process takes few seconds. When the light source is switched on the last time set up of modulation and attenuator is used. The device remembers the last used set up. Optical Power Set-up Optical Fiber Light Source OFLS-B uses angle polish connector (APC). Therefore patchcord with the same connector has to be used (APC). Three (3) values of optical power are preset, which can be switched by buttons in the field called „Attenuator“. Button „0dB” provides maximal value of optical power related to use optical component (light diode). The button „-3dB“ provides the half of maximal power and the button „-10dB“ provides 1/10 of maximal output power. Active value of output power is indicated by the red LED diode above the appropriate button. When the active button is pressed (i.e. the one which the LED diode lights) the optical power shutdowns and all LED diodes switch off in 2 OFLS User guide „Attenuator“ field. In case any button in field „Attenuator“ is pressed the appropriate output optical power is switched on. Buttons, in „Attenuator“ field, can be pre-set according to the customer needs. Actual values of the appropriate output power are indicated in Measurement report. When the output optical power is changed the change of thermostat temperature take place. This change is indicated by light of red „Term“ LED diode. The stabilization takes few seconds and the color of the „Term“ LED diode is changed to green. Modulation Set-up Output optical power is possible to modulate by internal or internal source of modulation. The used type of modulation is 100% amplitude pulsed modulation (amplitude shift keying). Modulated power is that one which is set in „Attenuator“ field. Modulation is switched on/off by press button „On Off“ in the field „Modulation“. State „On“ is indicated by the LED diode light above the above the button. The type of used modulation is given by the „Ext 1kHz“ LED diode. When the LED diode „Ext 1kHz“ lights the external signal for modulation is connected to „Ext.Mod“ connector at back side of the device. When the LED diode does not light the internal 1 kHz generator is used for modulation. External modulation is able to use in range 0..10 kHz with voltage decision threshold 1,45V (90mV hysteresis). Zero output optical power corresponds to the external voltage below the threshold decision level. Optical power set in „Attenuator“ field corresponds to the voltage above the threshold decision level. If the external signal is not connected the light source emits no light (no optical power). The short-term voltage resistivity of „Ext.Mod“ input is ± 15V. Input impedance is 1kΩ The mono-jack 3,5 mm connector type is used for connection of external source od modulation. 3 OFLS User guide Serial channel control The device can be controlled through serial channel. The RS232 connector is placed on back side panel. The output power with step of 1/4096 of maximal power, internal modulation frequency, thermostat modulation and system parameters of the device can be set-up via this port.
