This FSB has also been posted in the Support section of our website at http://www.symmetricom.com/. This Field Service Bulletin is to notify that there is a new issue of the TimeSource IF Antenna with new Part Number 090-72010-71, available now for general release. The new part has identical electrical performance specifications as the old part, but because the mounting is slightly different, a short mast and adapter flange is supplied to mount the new antenna to the mounting bracket from the old antenna. 090-72010-71 can be used to replace all revisions of the previous IF Roof Antenna, Part Number 090-72010-97. The old antenna is expected to have limited availability, and customers should expect a transition to the new part. For new orders of TimeSource 3500 / 3600 rooftop systems, continue to order 990-72050-96 for Rooftop Antenna Systems. These will be supplied with the new IF antenna. For RMA's or to buy Roof Top Antenna spares, the following kit must be ordered: 990-7201072. A description of the kit contents and installation instructions follows. Note: User-supplied PVC glue is required to install the new IF antenna. 990-72010-72 includes the following parts: Description: Roof Antenna and Mounting Hardware kit New IF antenna: 090-72010-71 (Qty 1) Antenna Cable Bracket Kit: 093-00001-01 (Qty 1) Mounting hardware kit (093-72010-71) (Qty 1) which includes: FSB 098-40620-119, Page 2 Shim, 070-72010-75 (Qty 2) Mast, 070-72010-76 (Qty 1) Flange, 070-72010-77 (Qty 1) Bolts, Pan Head Phillips Screw, 8 – 32 x ¾ inch, 125-83253-12 (Qty 3) #8 Flat washers, 400111-0002 (Qty 3) #8 Split Lock Washer, 125-00521-08 (Qty 3) #8 Nut, 400160-0003 (Qty 3) This new antenna performs identically to the previous versions. Mounting of the old and new antennas is different, so there is a new installation procedure. Listed below are the steps required to install the new antenna. Procedure A. Steps to replace an old antenna using Symmetricom’s new antenna: 1. To remove the old antenna, disconnect the cable and remove the three nuts and lock washers from the studs that secure it to the “L” bracket. 2. Ensure that the existing cable is long enough to reach the pigtail of the new antenna. If not, cut the new PVC mast (larger diameter end) to an appropriate length. The PVC mast must remain long enough to cover the antenna cable connection to the pigtail. Assemble the mast to the flange using PVC glue (Not supplied in the kit). Feed the existing cable through the bottom of the mast as illustrated. Connect the cable to the antenna pigtail and pull the cable back through the mast. Mount the antenna to the mast. Use the supplied shims and tighten the clamp that is built into the base of the antenna body. Mount the antenna and mast assembly to the existing “L” bracket using the supplied nuts, bolts, and washers. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Note: See Figure 1 on the following page for a sample antenna installation. FSB 098-40620-119, Page 3 Figure 1. New Antenna Installation Diagram Procedure B. For installation of New Antenna Systems 1. Attach the antenna mounting bracket to a pipe (1 in. diameter) or a wood post. If mounting the bracket to a pipe, slide the two V-bolts over the pipe, and through the mounting bracket slots; then place the provided four washers and four nuts over the V-bolts, against the mounting bracket. If mounting the bracket to a wood post, use the two provided self-tapping screws in two diagonally positioned mounting bracket slots, and then attach to the post. 2. Perform Procedure A. as shown above, beginning with Step 2.
