Gamma Radiation Detection Wristwatch The Model 1208 Electronic Wristwatch is a unique instrument designed to monitor the ambient radiation situation and personal irradiation level. These instruments can be used by professionals working in the vicinity of radiation sources and by ordinary citizens who are interested in radio-ecology. This watch was designed to provide always-on radiation detection and measurement especially for circumstances when an ordinary hand held radiation meter is not available or could arouse public concern. On the lighter side, the design and functionality of the 1208 make it a great conversation piece. The 1208 provides continuous monitoring of the ambient dose equivalent rate (DER) and ambient dose equivalent (DE), DE accumulation time, and produces an audible alarm when preset DE and DER thresholds are exceeded. Swiss-made quartz clock movement RONDA 763 ensures reliability and accuracy of the watch operation. The LCD features common electronic clock functionality including a calendar and alarm. The up-to-date design is a steel case which ensures water resistance to a depth of 100m. An electroluminescent backlight enables a user to control the instrument in the dark. The CR2032 battery ensures 1 year of continuous operation of the wristwatch. This timepiece keeps track of the current time and date and features both digital and analogue clock faces. These two timepieces function independently of each other, which is useful when traveling. Set the analogue watch to local time and leave the digital watch set to your home time zone. The instrument also has a daily alarm, which can be turned on or off. The radiation detector can be run in digital Direct Reading Dosimeter (DRD) mode or in Survey Meter mode. In DRD mode, cumulative dose is displayed in mSv. In Survey Meter mode, the current dose rate is displayed in µSv/h. Alarms can be set to indicate when a specified dose rate or cumulative dose is exceeded. In addition to the digital (numeric) display, the 1208 has LCD analogue displays which provide a visual indication of the current dose rate and cumulative dose. The full scale readings on the analogue scales are the alarm settings.
