1. Important Information
Please, read this User Information Manual carefully for your own safety and for the protection of the equipment from damage.
1.3 Purpose GEA Fricostar F800 systems are exclusively built for dehumidification, ventilation, air heating, pool water heating and filtering. They are not fit for any other purpose. The manufacturer/seller cannot be held liable for any loss due to any use for any purpose for which the GEA Fricostar F800 system is not fit or due to any non-compliance with this User Information Manual or any inspection, repair and maintenance requirements.
1.1 Symbols The following symbols are used in this User Information Manual:
Safety risk and risk of damage
Users may not alter, retrofit or upgrade GEA Fricostar F800 systems if such alterations, retrofits or upgrades may affect system safety, unless the alterations, retrofits or upgrades have been approved by the manufacturer/seller. The installation and the setting of safety devices and valves also require approval by the manufacturer/seller.

GEA Fricostar F800 systems are designed for the dehumidifcation of air in swimming pools or other moist or damp rooms.
The following is essential with respect to work:

• All personnel must have been trained or given appropriate instructions. Personnel responsibilities must be defined clearly.
Electrical work
• All electrical work must be carried out by or under the supervision of qualified electrical installers.
Refrigeration work
• All refrigeration work must be carried out by qualified refrigeration system installers or by personnel who have been given appropriate instructions.
Applications
Features of Fricostar F800 units include the following: • The standard Fricostar F800 unit is designed for return air operation. • The Fricostar F800 unit may be used for operation on return air and fresh air if a hot water heat exchanger is installed. • The Fricostar F800 unit may be installed in the swimming pool hall or in a separate room.
1.4 Limits The Fricostar F800 unit is designed for an air temperature bet ween 20 and 36 °C and a relative humidity between 40 and 60 %. Components of the Fircostar F800 unit are resistant to corrosion if the chemical composition of the pool water satisfies standard requirements made available by the manufacturer or the seller to the user upon request.
1.5 Disposal Consumables and parts replaced must be disposed of safely and in accordance with environmental standards.

2. Safety
2.1 Safety at Work
Repair and Maintenance
Assembly, installation, electrical work, commissioning, repair and maintenance of the Fricostar F800 unit must be the responsibility of qualified or appropriately instructed personnel who have been made aware of the risks associated with work not carried out properly.
The following safety precautions are essential for repair and maintenance:
All such work must be in accordance with all applicable health and safety laws, rules and regulations, relevant codes and standards and the state of the art. They may include rules, regulations, codes and standards applicable to refrigeration systems, pressure vessels, electrical installations and lifting tackle. Wiring diagrams in this User Information Manual do not address protective grounding or other electrical protection which will be required under local rules, regulations, codes or standards or by the local electric utility. Safe Handling
• The Fricostar F800 unit must be switched off and power sup ply must be interrupted for repair and maintenance work. • A lock or a tag on the switch should be fitted during repair or maintenance work to prevent unauthorized reconnection to power. • All panels and covers removed for repair or maintenance work must be fitted back after the completion of work. • Air intakes and air discharge openings must never be ob structed or blocked. 2.2 Modifications Any modification of or addition to the Fricostar F800 unit which may affect safety including the incorporation and setting of safety devices and valves requires approval by the seller or the manufacturer.
The following must be complied with for safety reasons: • Fricostar F800 units should only be carried at suitable points marked on the units. • Lifting tackle and gear must have sufficient capacity. • Defective lifting tackle and gear must not be used. • Ropes, belts and similar lifting tackle must not be knotted or come into contact with sharp edges. • Fork-lift trucks, elevating-platform trucks and cranes must have sufficient capacity. • Loads must not be lifted over persons.

3. Packaging, Handling and Storage
3.1 Packaging
3.3 Storage
Fricostar F800 units are packed in cardboard boxes and ship ped in an upright position on pallets.
Fricostar F800 units must be stored in rooms not exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
3.2 Handling
The original packaging material should only be removed fully a the place of installation.
The following is essential with respect to transportation and handling: * Following delivery and unloading, the packaging material must be removed. The shipment should be checked for correctness and completeness. The Fricostar F800 unit or units delivered must also be examined for damage in transit. Missing parts or any damage in transit must be confirmed by the carrier for claims under the transportation insurance.
The following conditions must be satisfied during storage: • ambient air temperature between -10 °C and + 50 °C • relative humidity between 50 and 85 % • no condensation
• The original packaging material should be used to protect Fricostar F800 units during any further transportation or storage. • For lifting, Fricostar F800 units should be carried underneath the packaging material or the pallet. They should not be handled by holding the side panels (see Fig. 5.1). • To avoid damage or injury, Fricostar Units must always be handled by two persons. • The capacity of lifting gear or tackle and trucks used for handling must be in excess of 135 kg. • Fricostar F800 units should not be handled with an inclination of more than 45°. They must never be moved or stored in a lying position.

4. Functions
4.1 Operation The closed-circuit refrigerant cycle of the Fricostar F800 unit consists of a scroll compressor, a water-cooled condenser (accessory), an air-cooled condenser, an expansion valve with a capillary and an air cooler. It is filled with environmentally friendly R407C refrigerant (see Fig. 6.1).

The refrigerant cycle depicted in Fig. 6.1 consists essentially of a scroll compressor (1), an air-cooled condenser (4) and an optional pool water condenser (3), an expansion valve (8) and an evaporator or air cooler (9). The system is filled with R407C refrigerant. The air in the swimming pool hall is extracted by a radial-flow fan and passes through the air cooler where it is cooled. Depending on the relative humidity of the air, the temperature drops below the dewpoint during cooling and water vapor carried by the air condenses on the air cooler fins and collects in the condensate tray. The condensate is drained from the tray through a drain line.

4.3 Dehumidification Mode Dehumidification is controlled by the hygrostat. If the humidity of the ambient air is above the setpoint humidity, the compressor and the high fan speed are started up automatically. When the relative humidity is 5 % below the setpoint, the compressor (for which minimum ON and OFF periods have been programmed) stops and the fan returns to the slow speed.
The dehumidified air is reheated and returned into the swimming pool hall (see Fig. 6.2. If a pool water condenser is installed, some 65 % of the heat recovered is transferred to the pool water and approx. 35 % to the air. 4.2 Ventilation Mode If no dehumidification is required (no signal from the hygrostat), the Fricostar F800 unit operates at low fan speed in the ventilation mode to prevent as far as possible the build-up of moisture in corners and window mist-over.

5. Installation
5.1 Location The Fricostar F800 unit designed for the dehumidification of air from the swimming pool hall or other moist rooms may be installed in swimming pool halls or a separate room.
Any Fricostar F800 unit fitted with a fresh air connector must be installed in front of an outside wall as extra ducting could reduce fresh air flow. It is important to maintain a minimum distance between the Fricostar F800 unit and the pool. Fricostar F800 units designed for using fresh air must be equipped with a hot water heat exchanger (accessory) and an exhaust air fan (accessory).
5.2 Installation in Swimming Pool Hall The Fricostar F800 unit may be installed directly in the swimming pool hall (see Fig. 8.1) to achieve homogeneous temperature and humidity distribution by effective air circulation. The Fricostar F800 unit must be installed at a minimum distance from the edge of the swimming pool often specified by national codes and standards

5.3 Fresh Air/Return Air Operation The indoor air can be improved by blending fresh air with the return air (see Fig. 8.2) An extra hot water heat exchanger (accessory) is required to prevent the supply air temperature from dropping below the hall indoor temperature which would produce draft effects.

Heat exchanger hot water flow is controlled by an integrated thermostatic valve. The flow pipe is connected directly to the thermostatic valve (R 1/2“, internal thread) and the return pipe to the R 1/2“ (internal thread) heat exchanger connection on the left side of the unit. The desired room temperature is set by adjusting the thermostatic valve. 5.4 Integration of Two Dehumidifiers If two Fricostar F800 units are required for dehumidification, the two units can be operated in parallel by a common control unit. The model F8ZRK control unit must be installed at a minimum distance of 3.50 m from the swimming pool edge or, if possible, outside the swimming pool hall. The schematic for the electrical connections is given in Section 12.2.

5.5 Installation
5.5 Installation in Seperate Room Fricostar F800 units for installation in separate rooms feature no paneling.
5.6 Foundations The Fricostar F800 unit must be installed on level foundations. Ideally, the unit is mounted on an owner-provided soundabsorbing support to prevent the transmission of structure-borne noise.
The ambient temperature in the room must be at least 20 °C to avoid low temperatures in the unit and in the air ducting.
For sound attenuation, the complete unit frame must be supported. The support should not be compressed by more than 1 mm.
Fricostar F800 units for installation in separate rooms must be installed at locations which keep duct connections short. The maximum total static head is 20 Pa. Canvas supply air connectors are available upon request. The Fricostar F800 unit for installation in a separate room is equipped with an adapter for the connection of the extract air ducting (e.g. flexible hosing) to be provided by the owner. The adapter is fitted upstream from the air intake near the bottom of the unit. Dia. 180 mm stubs are provided for connecting the hosing (see Section 6.6). For adequate swimming pool hall ventilation, the supply air duct should be fitted with an additional fan.

6. Assembly
6.1 Connections The water system connections are located underneath the left side panel and the electrical connections underneath the right side panel of the Fricostar F800 unit. To make the connections, the side panels must be pulled out to the front. No tools are required for removing the side panels. Hosing must be used for waterway connections to prevent the transmission of structure-borne noise. 6.2 Condensate Drain The condensate drain line must be sloped towards the wastewater system and must be fitted with a siphon. Condensate should for hygienic reasons not be drained into the pool water. Appropriate tubing such as copper or plastic tubing fit to carry condensate must be used for condensate drainage. The condensate system is shown by Fig. 10.1.
6.4 Electrical Work All electrical work must be carried out in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, codes and standards. The Fricostar F800 unit operates on 230 V, 50 Hz AC mains power. The control system voltage is 24 V DC safety extra-low voltage (SELV). The unit must be protected by a separate slow-blowing 16 A fuse and a ground-fault circuit interrupter in accordance with the requirements of the local electric utility. The unit must be grounded by equipotential bonding. The wiring diagrams of the Fricostar F800 unit are given in Section 12.
Power supply must be interrupted for all work on the Fricostar F800 unit. 6.5 Control Unit Installation For the hygrostat integrated in the control unit to operate correctly, the control unit (see Fig. 10.3) must be installed at a location where it is not exposed to effects which influence measurement. The unit should therefore be mounted at a height of 1.5 to 1.8 m at a minimum distance of 1 m from doors, windows and any space-heating radiators. Direct exposure to solar radiation, cold walls or air discharge by the Fricostar F800 unit must also be avoided.

6.6 Extract Air Adapter for Installation in Separate Room The extract air adapter of a Fricostar F800 unit installed in a separate room must be fitted in front of the air intake filter unit using four screws (see Fig. 11.1). The air hoses to be provided by the owner are then attached to the round stubs (see Fig. 11.1; flexible connection to supply air duct see Fig. 11.2).
The air hoses must not interfere with filter cleaning (see Section 9).

6.7 Rear Panel Installation If the rear side of the Fricostar F800 unit is visible (e.g. through a window), a rear panel colored like the other panels (accessory) should be installed. For rear panel installation, brackets must be attached to the standard rear wall. The rear panel is pushed from the top over the brackets (see Fig. 12.2).
6.8 Air Discharge Unit on Front The standard Fricostar F800 unit is equipped with an upwardfacing air occur unit. The air discharge unit may be moved to the front if upward air discharge is blocked e.g. in the case of a unit installed in a recess.

Rear wall To move the air discharge unit to the front, the two side panels must be removed (see Fig. 12.3). The bolts accessible behind the side panels (see Fig. 12.4) must also be removed. Following the removal of the front panel (see Fig. 12.5), the grille must be taken off (see Fig. 12.6). After untightening the bolts (see Fig. 12.7), the cover must be taken out and fitted over the standard air discharge opening (see Fig. 12.8). The grille must then be moved to the front (see Fig. 12.9) and connected to the panel (see Fig. 12.10). Finally, the two side panels must be put back into place.

7. Pool Water Condenser
7.1 Pool Water Condenser
7.2 Separate Pool Water Condenser Circuit
The Fricostar F800 unit can be equipped with a CuNi10Fe pool water condenser. The pool water condenser recovers the heat of pool water evaporation (0.674 kW/kg) to heat the pool water in the dehumidification mode.
Where possible, the pool water condenser circuit should be a separate circuit (see Fig. 13.1) to allow the independent operation of the filter and the pool water condenser circuits.
Isolating valves, filters and non-return valves must be integrated as shown by Figs. 13.1 and 14.1.
The pool water condenser recirculation pump must be filled with water before commissioning. Pool water overheating is avoided by pump control by a thermostat (accessory).
For the operation of the pool water condenser circuit pump to be provided by the owner, 230 V 50 Hz AC power is supplied to the Fricostar F800 pump and thermostat outputs in the dehumidification mode when the compressor is in operation. The submerged thermostat is required to prevent pool water overheating. It should be installed as close as possible to the pool water outlet to measure the actual pool water temperature. A filter must be installed upstream from the pool water condenser circuit pump to protect the pump and the pool water condenser.

7. Pool Water Condenser
The switching differential of the pool water thermostat is 1 K. The thermostat should be adjusted to the setpoint pool temperature. To set the thermostat, the cover must be removed and the control must be adjusted to the desired pool water temperature (see Fig. 14.2).
7.3 Pool Water Condenser Circuit Parallel to Filter Circuit Fig. 14.1 shows a configuration where the swimming pool features only one water outlet and one water inlet and the pool water condenser circuit is parallel to the filter circuit. In this configuration, the filter circuit pump and the pool water condenser circuit pump must be interlocked and nonreturn valves must be installed. The owner must decide on the basis of the filter circuit operating times whether the filter circuit pump is locked while the condenser circuit pump is in operation or whether the condenser circuit pump is locked while the filter circuit pump is in operation.
The setpoint temperature of the pool water heater in the filter circuit should be approx. 1 to 1.5 K below the actual pool water setpoint temperature to keep the pool water at a minimum temperature. The settings described keep the pool water at the desired temperature by heat transfer from the pool water condenser to the pool water.

8. Commissioning and Operation
8.1 Commissioning Following connection to the water and power systems, the Fricostar F800 unit can be commissioned. For start-up, the unit is switched ON and the humidity control is set to the desired setpoint value (see Section 8.3). If the relative humidity in the swimming pool hall is above the setpoint, the compressor is started up after approx. 5 minutes (minimum compressor shut-down period) and the fan is switched to the high speed. When the setpoint is reached, the compressor is stopped (minimum compressor operating time of 5 minutes) and the fan continues to operate at the low speed. 8. Low-Cost Operation The operating expenses of the Fricostar F800 unit depend critically on the setpoint pool water temperature, air temperature and humidity.
8.4 Control Unit Functions The control unit (see Fig. 15.1) features a rotary button on the left side for setting relative humidity. An alarm (red) and a status display light as well as an ON (I) and OFF (0) switch are situated to the right of the button. Section 11 shows what action is required when the alarm lights up. 8.5 Room Temperature Control For room temperature control, the Fricostar F800 unit must be equipped with an extra hot water heat exchanger. The room temperature is set by adjusting the thermostatic valve to one of the positions between 2 and 7 (equivalent to room temperatures between 20 °C and 70 °C) as shown by Fig. 15.2. The thermostatic valve is located behind the left side panel which must be removed by pulling it out to the front. No tools are required for taking off the panel.
As the setpoint air temperature increases above the pool water temperature and the setpoint humidity increases, operating expenses decrease. The air temperature should for this reason be at least 2 to 4 K higher than the pool water temperature. Pool water evaporation rates may easily double if the setpoint pool water temperature is as high as or even higher than the setpoint air temperature. 8.3 Hygrostat Setting The relative humidity should be set at a level where no condensation will develop on cold surfaces. This level depends on the structure of the swimming pool hall. Normally, no condensation will occur at an air temperature of 28 °C and a relative humidity of 60 %. If the air temperature is higher, the humidity level must be reduced accordingly.

9. Maintenance
9.1 Panel Cleaning The panels of the Fricostar F800 units can be cleaned by a damp cloth using a mild detergent if necessary. No strong detergent should be used. 9.2 Air Filter Cleaning The air filter of the Fricostar F800 unit is located behind the air intake grille. To remove the filter, the grille is lifted (see Fig. 16.1), tilted to the front (see Fig. 16.2) and taken off by pulling it downwards and forward (see Fig. 16.3). In the case of a unit installed in a separate room, the adapter including the connected air hosing must be lifted and pulled out to the front. The filter itself must then be tilted down and taken out to the front (see Fig. 16.5). The filter can be cleaned by rinsing using normal water or replaced by a new filter (accessory).

After cleaning, the Fricostar F800 unit must be reassembled in reverse order.
The Fricostar F800 unit must be switched OFF when the filter is removed for cleaning.

10. Fresh Air Connector The fresh air connector is delivered as a separate part. The procedure for installation is as follows: • In the case of a Fricostar F800 unit for installation in a separate room, the fresh air connector must be mounted on the front of the unit (see Fig. 17.1) because the rear wall of the unit is normally backed up against a wall of the room. In the case of a unit installed in the swimming pool hall, the fresh air connector must be attached to the rear wall of the unit. • For the installation of the fresh air connector, the insulation material covering the fresh air connector opening must be cut away using a sharp-edged knife. While cutting, the material should be pulled out to the front as it could otherwise drop into the unit and the fan cover would have to be removed to take out the insulation material. • Following the removal of the insulation material, the fresh air connector must be screwed into the unit.
The owner must integrate an air filter and a fresh air flow control device into the fresh air line.
