Message from the President HATS OFF TO OUR CREW LEADERS, DEPT. HEADS, SUPERVISORS, ASSISTANT MANAGERS AND MANAGERS (G.M.’s & D.M.’s): We have just come through a very busy season across our company and as President, I want to tip my hat, congratulate and thank those company folks that lead our operations. From our crew leaders in Montreal to our Dept. Heads in our hotels to our supervisors, assistant managers and managers at our Tim Hortons & Wendy’s, a big pat on the back for getting us through the busiest time of year in a very impressive fashion.
Another reason I know our crew leaders, dept. heads, supervisors, assistant mangers and managers (G.M.’s, D.M.’s) are really doing a great job is because our turnover is way down. Our leaders are recognizing the efforts of our employees every day and treating them with respect and this behavior is translated into a working environment that is enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. We all like to be recognized for doing a great job. I know I do! I firmly believe that the level of morale and how motivated our team is springs directly from our supervisors, crew leaders, dept. heads, assistant managers and management - I really believe this!
things about this food and hospitality business. Watching all of you leaders excel in your positions, I’m sure I can speak on behalf of the hundreds of employees out there across our operations and say “thank you” to all crew leaders, dept. heads, supervisors, assistant managers and managers for the respect, recognition and appreciation you showed to all of them this summer.
Montreal has never been busier, Saint John and Moncton both had great traffic and of course of It’s no small task to do the job each day of leading P.E.I. with the Summer Games, our operations were our different operations. They’re so busy and take extremely busy. so much effort to organize so the customers are happy with their experience but we’re getting really good at it and that’s one of the greatest
Keep up the great work everyone!

What a busy summer! There is lots on the agenda for the growing hotel division. A big congratulations goes out to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Saint John…we just learnt that they have earned not one, but two awards from Holiday Inn Corporate. The first very prestigious award is the Quality Excellence award. This award is reserved for those properties who are able to meet or exceed an annual OSAT, or overall satisfaction score as measured by our guests of 94.75 or above. A very tall order indeed. Saint John has been consistently been top performer in our region and is very deserving of this special recognition. The second award is the Priority Club Excellence Award…this again, is an award as scored by our clients and is given to the hotel who achieves the highest level of excellence surrounding customer loyalty. The Saint John property achieved the highest ranking of any Express property in Canada. Very impressive and well earned praise. Congratulations to everyone in Saint John. The Super 8 in Charlottetown had a great summer and is starting to see a lot of repeat business as the team takes great care of their guests. Kirk and his team have worked hard in driving sales and experience a tremendous amount of walk in traffic this summer. The Hampton Inn & Suites in Moncton is starting to make some great moves in the very competitive Moncton accommodation market. We all know the Hampton is the nicest property in the market and the public is starting to find that out too! Pascal and his team recently celebrated their one year anniversary for being open. We look forward to many more anniversaries and a very bright future for this property. Stanhope Beach Resort is just preparing to close up shop for the season. We are excited to get out and sell this fabulous resort to our existing clients and provide with a second to none meeting experience. Thanks to Celeste and her team for seeing us through this summer of transition. Last, not certainly not least is the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Charlottetown. Kathy and her team have been experiencing fantastic performance in the market and have set a few records this summer in occupancy and rate growth. This is all that more impressive when you consider that we were ongoing exterior renovations for the majority of the peak summer season. Balancing such growth in revenue with the challenges of renovating while open is a very difficult task. Congrats to all involved in making this happen. Also a big thanks to John and his team for their hard work on the exterior renovation this summer. I can say in all honesty that we have the best curb appeal of any property in Charlottetown! Signs, signs, everywhere signs…..Not just a great song, but it seems our theme song this year! Super 8 has installed new signs to reflect their new logo. The Hampton in Moncton is digging a hole as we speak to install a large highway sign. And, we are preparing for the install of all new signs at both the Holiday Inn Express in Charlottetown and Saint John. This replacement of signs is the last piece in a “re-launch” of the Express brand. New hallmarks will be standardized across the chain and the new sign and logo will signal to the guests that the property is now able to deliver on those promises. New shower curtains, exterior lighting, music, check in desk and enhanced customer service programs a few of the new hallmarks. We are very excited about this relaunch…watch for our new look this fall….

message from
VicePresident Well, we did it!
Another extremely busy summer over. This summer we knew we were going to be busy with some big events coming to P.E.I. – Canada Games, the Country Music Festival and others. Thank you to every one working so hard in our operations to keep them looking good and our guests served by the best! We broke sales records right across P.E.I. in almost all locations and that’s on top of some already big numbers. That’s thanks to the level of service you were able to provide – well done! We also had our lowest summer for turnover on record!!! That is an amazing feat in itself and I’m sure played a big role in our success this summer. The lots looked fantastic due to the efforts of the store’s, the maintenance team who did the line and pressure washing and the addition of large flower planters (thanks to Lou). It was busy and at time difficult but things went great this summer. Thank you to everyone for doing their best this summer and let’s continue into a great fall!
Scott Judson Vice President of Food Service Operations
CHARLOTTETOWN DISTRICT: Summer has passed and we are now into the fall season. We had an excellent summer in my district of stores and overall, ran great operations. I want to thank each and every one of my G.M.’s for their dedication, hardwork and commitment throughout the busy summer. Special thanks to the Shift Managers, store front crew and all the bakers who also did a bang up job! Things were smooth sailing starting with the Festival of Lights, a huge soccer tournament in Montague, Old Home Week with parade day records broken by all and ending with the Canada Games. Guest Courtesy was always top notch and employee appearance was never better. I cannot forget to mention the great job done by Bonny and her team at the Training Center who went non stop all summer long. As we are now into the Fall and as we move closer to the cold winter season, lets all continue to focus on our priorities of safety, service, dining rooms and great looking displays and ensure we WOW all our guests EACH and EVERY visit. Thank you everyone!

Held at the McIntosh Estate, festive music and colorful attire were the rule. Festivities included a Hawaiian feast complete with a whole barbecued pig on a spit, Hawaiian salads, and a Tiki Bar.
Well another summer has come and gone here at the Super 8. Everything went very well and I owe a huge thanks to all my staff for this. This being my first summer here at the hotel my staff have helped me out tremendously!! The feedback and comments I have received from our guests has been amazing. They are blown away by the level of service and professionalism that we provide on a daily basis. Thanks again folks for all your hard work. Now as we change from bus tours and vacationers to hockey groups and corporate travels, I am confident that the same great service will be provided throughout! I am looking forward on continuing to work with everyone and I am very excited for the winter season.
The Express led all of its competitors with the highest occupancy in Saint John over July and August, and a busy fall awaits with several major projects taking place in the city.

«C’EST CONTINELLEMENT DE L’AMÉLIORATION»
“IT’S ALL ABOUT MAKING IT BETTER”
Bonjour,
Hi,
Forty years ago, Dave Thomas set out to serve the best hamburger in the business. For decades, Wendy’s owned that reputation and none of our competitors came close to the hot n’juicy hamburger we served with pride. It is time to take it a step farther!
As some of you already heard, Wendy’s will be introducing shortly a couple of new products, procedures and making major improvements to our sandwiches.
New items will include a new bun for our large sandwiches which is bigger and will be called “Premium” replacing the Kaisers. This new bun can only be heated one dozen at a time as two dozen will not fit in the bun warmer. Another great item will be the changing of our present bacon to the Applewood-Smoked Bacon which is thicker and better! It will not be pre-cooked as the old one and will require some adjustments to our preparations. It will be cooked for 8 minutes in the potato oven and will hold only for 3 hours in our chili warmers instead of 4 hours at room temperature online. Also, we will add a new foil wrap which will be 1 inch longer to better wrap our hamburgers. We will have 3 wraps, 1 for hamburgers, 1 for chicken and promotional items, and the third for our junior hamburgers. Now, here are some products that will change. The Big Bacon classic will become the Bacon Deluxe. The same build with a different name. Also, the build of the Baconator will change – laying the bacon strips on each patty instead of just the top. Another major item is that both sandwiches will be offered in Single, Double or Triple. The New Bacon Deluxe will remain with the same build and require a total of four strips of Bacon for single, double or triple. But, the Baconator will have the bacon on each patty making it 3 slices for a single, 6 for the double and 9 slices of Bacon on the triple. Now this is Bacon!!!
Except for Québec, the new bacon is used only on large sandwiches and the old bacon remains on the juniors. As per Québec, they will be testing the new bacon for all products, large and juniors and will eliminate the old bacon. Also, in Québec, customers call our junior products deluxe and we will remove this writing on our menus and they way we order products.
Why new wraps? Well, studies show that we wrap our sandwiches to tight and really damage the shape and look of our hamburger. This is why this new wrap will make it easier to keep our product looking good and much easier when you get to wrap the triple Baconator.
In conclusion, we need to keep our hamburgers the best in the business for the sake of our reputation, our customers, and most importantly for our continued growth.
These changes may sound complicated but in fact are not at all. This will help the business grow, make our customers happy and add a greater taste to what is already great. In my next newsletter, I will have some great and fantastic news to share with all of you so enjoy the autumn, and keep on doing what you do great every day!
