Need to Know: God Promises To Hear My Prayers! Bible Story: A Wise King 1 Kings 3-4 Welcome Activity (5 min) As kids arrive, 1 volunteer greets kids at the door to make sure they are wearing nametags and write their first name down on the attendance list. Other leaders can use welcome activities to engage kids as they arrive: ● ● ●
DISCUSS: What is one thing you are sad to see end now that summer is almost over? Activity pages/coloring sheets Filler activities (see last page)
Video Teaching (15-20 min) There’s a music video to kick off each week of the video teaching series: when the music starts, begin to clean up and settle down to watch the video.
Make It Matter (15 min) TELL kids that there was a man in the Bible who prayed to God. God heard and answered his prayer! DISCUSS the following questions: 1. What did God tell Solomon? (To ask for anything he wanted) 2. What did Solomon ask for? (For God to make him wise and understanding) 3. True or False: God made Solomon wiser than anyone who’s ever lived. (True) 4. Did God hear Solomon’s prayer? (Yes) 5. True or False: Solomon helped the people in his kingdom by solving problems. (True) 6. Did the people in the kingdom believe that Solomon was the wisest man in the world? (Yes) 7. How do you know that God heard Solomon’s prayer? (Because God answered Solomon’s prayer and everyone in the kingdom could see that God answered it) 8. What kinds of things can you pray to God about? (Anything – allow kids to give specifics) 9. Do you have to pray in a special way? (No – you can pray by whispering, talking loudly, singing, thinking, etc.)
CONNECT the Bible Story to what we’re learning today: What is one way that I can pray for you this week? God answered Solomon’s prayer by giving Solomon wisdom. God promises to hear our prayers, too. We know that we can talk to him anytime, anywhere, and about anything. That’s what we need to know today: “God Promises To Hear Our Prayers!”

Application Activity: Space Telephone (10 min) 1. Allow kids to sit in a circle. 2. Allow each child to choose a Telephone Card. Tell them not to show the card to anyone else. 3. Starting with the first child, allow that child to whisper what was on the card to the person on his or her left. That person will then whisper it to the person on his or her left, and so on around the circle. Note: younger children may need help reading the card. 4. When the phrase gets to the person RIGHT BEFORE the child who started the telephone, allow that person to say the phrase out loud. See if it matches what the child said to begin with. 5. Play until each child gets a chance to start the telephone. 6. Give each child a Prayer Guide. Read over the guide while encouraging kids to use it to help them remember to pray each day. Allow them to write on the prayer guide if they think of anything else they can pray for! DISCUSS with the group that in order for their phrases to make it all the way around the circle, each person had to listen very carefully to hear what was said. Just like we heard the words being whispered, God promises to hear us when we pray! ASK kids to name different situations in which they could pray throughout the day. (Ex: to be safe at school, to help you be nice to someone in your class, to thank God for a pretty day, etc.) REVIEW what we need to know today: God Promises To Hear My Prayers!
Memory Verse Game (5 min) “All
people will come to You, because You hear and answer prayer.” Psalm 65:2 1. Divide group into two teams. Allow each team to line up in a single file line. 2. Place two sets of Memory Verse Cards facedown about three feet away from the teams. 3. Kids will pretend like they are walking on the moon (kind of like a slow motion hopping walk). They will walk to the cards, pick one up, and bring it back to the team. 4. After the teams get all the cards, they will work together to get the verse in order. 5. The first team to assemble the verse correctly in order is the winner! REVIEW what we need to know today, and then PRAY with your group: God, thank you for your promise to hear our prayers. Thank you that we can pray to you anytime about anything! We know that you will hear and answer our prayers. We love you! Amen.

area. The non-blindfolded partners stand at the opposite end of the playing area and try to talk their partners through the asteroid field without running into any of the asteroids. Have all of the teams playing at the same time. Make it more difficult by starting teammates at opposite corners, forcing teams to cross each others’ paths.
