Greenhouse Funding Partners
European Union in the framework of the Euromed Audiovisual programme Euromed Audiovisual in its 3rd phase has a budget of €11 Million over 3 years (2011-2013) and funds seven projects aimed at developing the film and audiovisual sector in 9 South Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Occupied Palestinian Territory, Syria and Tunisia). Euromed Audiovisual aims at enhancing sustainable transfer of knowledge and best practices through a wide set of trainings, capacity building of both professionals and national authorities and networking activities. Euromed Audiovisual considers the film industry not only as creative means of cultural expression and intercultural dialogue, but also of socio-economic development of the region. The programme has operated in two separate previous phases: Euromed Audiovisual I (2000-2005)and Euromed Audiovisual II (2006-2009). Both were focused on reinforcing intercultural dialogue & promoting exchanges across the Mediterranean, helping professionals get training and develop, distribute and promote their works internationally.
Righteous Persons Foundation Steven Spielberg earmarked his profits from the film Munich to charity and designated $5 million over five years to establish a Fund for Coexistence within the Righteous persons Foundations. Launched in 2006, the Fund supports co-existence efforts focused on the United States and the Middle East that leverage media and technology to help: Humanize the “other” by lending insight into another’s experience; Amplify the voices of those working towards common ground and understanding; and/or Bring people of different backgrounds together around a shared purpose and over a sustained period of time.
Blue Ice Group The Blue Ice Capital Group and Blue Ice Film, an independent film financing and Production Company are founded by Neil Tabatznik and Steven Silver. Blue Ice Funded the Hot Docs-Blue Ice Documentary Fund, a grant program providing financial support to African documentary filmmakers for development and production. Blue Ice Group are committed to providing crucial support to African documentary filmmakers to tell their own stories and contribute to a new generation of the African documentary community.

AWARDS AT THE 2012 GREENHOUSE PITCHING FORUM TRIBECA FILM INSTITUTE AWARD Ryan Harrington, Director of Documentary Programming at the Tribeca Film Institute will contribute a 10,000$ development grant for one of the 2012 Greenhouse projects. The selected filmmaker will be invited to the Tribeca Film Festival held in April 2013 and will take part in the TFI Filmmaker/Industry Meetings, a market initiative between TFI grantees and Decision Makers during the Festival. The filmmaker will also be entitled to a delegate pass allowing access to all the main events at the festival. The selected filmmaker will be announced at the 2012 Greenhouse Final Seminar & Pitching Forum. The Tribeca Film Institute is a year-round nonprofit arts organization founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff in the wake of September 11, 2001. TFI empowers filmmakers with over $1.2 million in annual grants and professional development, and is a resource for and supporter of individual artists in the field. CHICKEN & EGG PICTURES AWARD Chicken & Egg Pictures is a New York/San Francisco based film fund dedicated to supporting women documentary filmmakers in the US and Internationally. Chicken & Egg Pictures will contribute a $5,000 award to a women filmmaker at the Greenhouse Pitch Forum to develop and further support her project. The award is part of Chicken & Egg Pictures' mission driven fund THE MOTHER WIT HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FUND. Chicken & Egg Pictures goal with this fund is to: · Support women filmmakers and courageous human rights activists—men, women and youth—who together from both sides of the camera, take on serious human rights struggles in the global South and around the globe; · Use story-driven films to help expand the definition of human rights to mean all people have the right to THRIVE (eat, play, work, love and learn) in peace. The selected filmmaker will be announced at the 2012 Greenhouse Final Seminar & Pitching Forum. Chicken & Egg Pictures is a film fund dedicated to supporting women documentary filmmakers. Chicken & Egg matches strategically-timed grants with dynamic mentorship and creative collaboration to nurture women filmmakers whose diverse voices have the power to change the world as we know it.
BLUE ICE GROUP-HOT DOCS AWARDS Greenhouse, Blue Ice Group and Hot Docs announce 2013 partnership The partnership will take place at the upcoming Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival to be held in May 2013. Greenhouse, Hot Docs, and the Blue Ice Group will jointly select four Greenhouse filmmakers to participate in the upcoming festival. The selected filmmakers will meet with decision makers at Hot Docs Deal Maker and other marketplace initiatives at the festival. They will also receive a delegate pass allowing access to all the main events at the festival, and will have join the Blue Ice Grantees for a program of workshops and sessions. Blue Ice Group will contribute toward the selected participants' expenses for the festival. The Hot Docs-Blue Ice Group Documentary Fund is a grant program providing financial support to African documentary filmmakers for development and production. Hot Docs and the Blue Ice Group are committed to providing crucial support to African documentary filmmakers to tell their own stories and contribute to a new generation of the African documentary community. The selected filmmaker will be announced at the 2012 Greenhouse Final Seminar & Pitching Forum. SHEFFIELD DOC/FEST AWARDS Greenhouse and Sheffield Doc/Fest continues its fruitful partnership and for the second time documentary projects of the Greenhouse development program will participate at the Sheffield Doc/Fest Marketplace, June 12-16 2013. Charlie Phillips, Sheffield's Marketplace Director will select three filmmakers from the Greenhouse 2012 program, the selected filmmakers will be offered meetings with Decision Makers at the MeetMarket and other marketplace initiatives in Sheffield. They will also be entitled to a delegate pass allowing access to all the main events at the market in Doc/Fest, and to have access to bespoke mentoring with Charlie Phillips and Karolina Lidin, MeetMarket Executive Producer. Sheffield Doc/Fest will offer contributions towards the selected participants' expenses for the festival. The selected filmmaker will be announced at the 2012 Greenhouse Final Seminar & Pitching Forum.

Greenhouse Euromed Audiovisual III | Partners - short CV Dorit Inbar, The New Foundation for Cinema and Television (NFCT), Israel
Adv. Dorit Inbar is the General Manager of the Israeli New Foundation for Cinema and Television – and is the Vice-Chairperson of the Israel Broadcasting Authority. NFCT is the major driving force in documentary filmmaking in Israel. Since its establishment in 1994, NFCT has supported the production of over 200 documentaries and has greatly contributed to the success of Israeli documentaries overseas. Yair Lev was born in 1959 in Tel Aviv where he lives up until today. So far he made four feature-documentaries; 'Hugo 2" (2008); “Uri Avnery: Warrior for Peace” (2002) which won the In the Spirit of Freedom award for best documentary at the 2002 Jerusalem Film Festival and soon afterwards was released in theatres all over Germany; “Yakantalisa – a Portrait of a Dead Poet” (1996); “Hugo” (1989) was shown at the Berlin, Chicago and Montreal Film Festivals and in many others. In 1996 he received the Ministry of Culture's Art of Cinema award. He also directed several of short films and educational films. Ofir Goldman, Production Coordinator
Ofir Goldman is a graduate of the Film and Television Dept. at Tel Aviv University. In the last 5 years she has produced numerous projects ranging from short films, music videos and commercials to prime time television and feature films. Some of her work includes “Ruth, Sof” a short drama, winner of awards in Beijing, Shanghai and Macau and “Out in the Dark” a feature film funded by the Israeli Film Fund and Channel 10. In television, Ofir produced live broadcasts for the Children’s Channel and took part in the first successful season of the prime-time Israeli version of “Master Chef”. She is originally from Haifa and lives in Tel Aviv with her husband.

John Appel Has worked as a professional cameraman/director since '87. Appel directed more than 30 documentaries, mainly for television and some feature length for cinema. Appel studied Gymnasium ß Classical Languages and Literature in the University of Amsterdam Film Academy, and graduated as cameraman and documentary director. In 2000, established a production company with filmmaker Heddy Honigmann (VOF Appel&Honigmann). Appel is a Guest lecturer at the Dutch Film and Television Academy (since 2000); Adviser to the Dutch Cultural Broadcasting Fund (since ’98) and the Dutch Film Fund (since 2000) among his other activities. In 1999 he won the Joris Ivens Award at IDFA for the film Andre Hazes/ She Believes in Me, the most successful documentary film in Dutch cinema released in 40 years.
Bruni Burres
Bruni Burres is a New York based film producer and consultant whose work focuses primarily on documentary projects exploring contemporary human rights themes. She is a senior consultant with the Sundance Documentary Program (SDP). At the SDP she works to expand the roster of national and international documentary filmmakers working with the program, deepen national and international collaborations with filmmakers and cultural institutions, and broaden the human rights themes currently explored by the SDP. Bruni is also a consultant with the Open Society Institute’s US National Security and Human Rights Campaign, guiding them on incorporating arts and culture projects further in their ongoing work. Recently Bruni completed the feature length documentary, The Siege, which explores the lasting cultural and political Impact of the 1985 siege of Palace of Justice in Colombia with the International Center for Transitional Justice (www.ictj.org). Nenad Puhovski was born in Zagreb where he graduated sociology, philosophy and film directing. He made his first, amateur film, when he was 15. As a professional director, he directed more that 250 productions in theater, film and television. His documentary films deal with social problems and fine arts. Many of them have been screened and awarded worldwide. In 1997, Puhovski founded FACTUM, which soon became the largest and most influential independent documentary film production in Croatia. He produced over 60 documentary films which were screened and awarded all around the globe. He
also received four awards for the best production at the Croatian national film festival. In 2004, he founded ZagrebDox – largest documentary festival in the region. Today he works as its director. Apart from the school in Zagreb where he started a new documentary MA program, Nenad also taught documentary filmmaking in many schools in Europe, Asia, North & South America, Middle East and Africa. In his 28 years in documentary television Steven Seidenberg has been a producer, creator, head of development & script editor. Steven has wide experience in all documentary genres. As a producer he has worked in history programming (e.g. THE TRIAL OF GEORGE WASHNGTON, HITLER'S DEATH, and NAPOLEON'S OBSESSION), the sciences (e.g. A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME, with Stephen Hawking, directed by Errol Morris, creative director Steven Spielberg), as well as examinations of ethical and moral issues (e.g. HYPOTHETICALS, with Arthur Miller). Long before the term "reality programming" had even been invented, Steven was quick to realize the potential of new DVcam technology co-creating the genre-bending 12-part NIGHTS OUT AT THE EMPIRE and the 26-part travel-adventure series, THE $100 TAXI RIDE. More recently his focus has shifted to Asia. For the past seven years he has worked primarily as a preditor (producereditor) on various productions in Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore and Seoul where he has made programmes on everything from kung fu monks in Berlin to China’s first astronaut to the Korean figure skating sensation Kim Yu-na. He is currently Head of International Production at LIC China in Beijing. Steven is an active participant in the European Documentary Network and with them has participated in workshops on international co-production in eleven countries as a tutor and expert. He has taught at Discovery Campus and currently is the Head of Studies at Crossing Borders, the joint EDN, Documentary Campus and Guangzhou Documentary Association’s new master school in Asia.

After his studies in Political Science in Heidelberg, he worked as an assistant of the Minister of Finance in Bonn. Until 1979 he also worked as an assistant to several Members of Parliament and as free lance journalist for print media and radio. At the end of 1979 change of „profession“ and place, first, dramatic adviser, then producer of television programmes in Berlin. As of 1983 scriptwriter and producer for television series and factual programmes for Studio Hamburg Atelier GmbH. 1985 Editor for press and public relations and producer at the Second German Television (ZDF) and the German-speaking cultural channel 3Sat. As of November 1987 Eisenhauer became Director of the Berlin Film Fund at the Berlin Government, where he was also responsible for the foundation of the European Film Academy. As of November 1991 Deputy Programme Director of ARTE and Head of the Theme Evenings. Coordinator of about 2000 Theme Evenings, including co-productions with international broadcasters as TVE, TVP, ORF, SRG, YLE, RTBF, TELEPIU, SVT, WGBH, BBC, NPS, Channel Four, CBC and ABC-Australia. As of January 2005 Eisenhauer worked again for ZDF. Within his career he commissioned, produced and coproduced more than 50 theatrical length documentaries. As of April 2011 Hans Robert Eisenhauer retired from his TV-position and started as independent producer for international documentaries in Berlin.

Caroline Behar Head of the acquisition and International co-productions for Documentaries department of France 5 Caroline Behar is Head of Documentaries for France 5, and Head of Acquisitions for the France Télévisions Group (France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5 and France O). Caroline joined France 5 at its launch in 1994, first in the team that spearheaded an international educational broadcasters association. Then two years later she became Deputy Head of the International Acquisitions and Co-Productions department, and Head of the department in 2008. In Zurich Gitte worked with international distribution of feature films and started in 2002 at First Hand Films, where her work includes project development, financing & packaging, marketing strategy, executive producing, sales and acquisition. Previously Gitte has worked with inhouse factual production at DR-TV, she was Head of Information and Promotion with Filmkontakt Nord for five years in Copenhagen, coordinator of the Nordisk Forum for Co-financing of Documentaries, and has worked for the former MEDIA project DOCUMENTARY, which included the first edition of the EDN TV Guide and a study on the European Documentary sector regarding co- production and film financing. Margje de Koning Responsible for the Television Department of IKON / the Netherlands After finishing her studies, during 12 years Margje de Koning made all sorts of documentaries for many different broadcasting companies. In 2004 Margje de Koning became a part time teacher at the Culture & Media studies (department Film& Television at the University of Amsterdam). In August 2004, Margje de Koning became Commissioning editor for a documentary slot of 52" docs. This means producing and co-producing creative single 52'documentaries on contemporary social, social-cultural and moral issues with a strong human interest angle. In January 2005 Margje de Koning became responsible for the Television Department of IKON and as of January 2012 Ms De Koning is Head of Radio, Television and New Media.
Ryan Harrington Director, Documentary Programming; Tribeca Film Institute, USA Ryan Harrington is the Director of Documentary Programming at the Tribeca Film Institute where he oversees all of their documentary filmmaker funds, while developing other initiatives and programs that support non-fiction filmmaking. Neil Tabatznik BLUE ICE GROUP-HOT DOCS Neil Tabatznik Founded Arrow Pharmaceuticals (Canada) Inc. in 2000, and served as its Chairman and as the CEO of Cobalt Pharmaceuticals until the time of its sale to Watson Pharmaceuticals in 2009. Between 1993 and 1999, Neil ran Genpharm Pharmaceuticals Inc. Genpharm was sold to Merck in 1999. Neil is a long-time supporter of film, television and the arts and in 2005 he co-founded the Blue Ice Capital Group and Blue Ice Film, an independent film financing and production company. In that year Blue Ice Capital Group bought a 50% share of Barna Alper Productions, one of Canada's largest film and television companies. In 2008, Barna Alper was sold to the Eone Entertainment Group. Neil now serves on the board of the Canadian Film Center and the Hot Docs Film Festival. He founded the Hot Docs-Blue Ice documentary film fund and has also built a documentary cinema in central Toronto. Prior to moving to Canada with his family in 1993, Neil lived in England where he practised as a Barrister for over 14 years.

Paul Pauwels Independent Consultant and Executive Producer, Belgium Paul Pauwels studied at RITCS film school in Brussels where he got his degree as director and producer. He worked as production manager and unit manager in feature film production until 1987, when he founded his own production company: Periscope Productions. The company produced commercials, short feature films and internationally financed documentaries. The company was sold in 2005, when Paul Pauwels was invited to become programmer manager at VRT, the Flemish public broadcaster. There he was in charge of the science and history department and was the liaison officer with the independent documentary community. He left this position in December 2007 to become the project manager for the EUROPEAN TELEVISION AND MEDIA MANAGEMENT ACADEMY in Strasbourg, France. In December 2007 Paul Pauwels was nominated the director of this international training institute, a position he occupied until October 2011, when the school ended its activities in Strasbourg. Paul Pauwels still teaches Documentary Production at the MAD academy in Belgium and has now started again to work as an expert, moderator and tutor for other training organizations. He advises producers and directors of factual programs, sometimes accepting the position of executive producer. Paul Pauwels has been the chairperson of the European Documentary Network (EDN) for the maximum period possible, and also, he is a member of the General Assembly of the new Flemish Film Fund (VAF). Many of her films won prestigious and international awards at the various film festivals.Since 2010, she is in charge of a specific MASTER dedicated to creative documentaries in Bordeaux, France Thijs Nusmeijer , the Netherlands Thijs has Left his Birthtown Enschede, the cultural heart of Eastern Holland, to study Direction, Camera and Studio Productions.
