The incredible truth about washing machines… Did you know ? Your washing machine could be this dirty! As you use your washing machine day after day, dirt, such as sebum, detergent residue, bacteria and black mold spores, gradually accumulates in places you can't see. Once this dirt becomes attached, it's very difficult to clean. The only solution is troublesome cleaning with a special cleaner, and even then stubborn dirt is exceptionally hard to remove.

Tiny bits of dirt are attached to clothes that should have been washed clean.
It could be dirt that has come off the outside of the tub. When the washing machine is used again and again to wash clothes, sebum and detergent residue become attached to the tub with each wash. If this dirt is allowed to accumulate, some of it falls off during washing and mixes with the water. It can even enter the tub and become attached to clothes. After washing, when you take clothes out there may be little specks on them even though they are supposed to be clean. This is dirt from the outside of the tub.

Why not prevent dirt right from the beginning? After about 10 years of hard work, Hitachi washing machine senior engineer Tetsunori Kaneko finally succeeded in developing this innovative technology. At first, through repeated trial and error, he tried to remove sticky dirt using a wide range of tools and equipment. However, with these methods it was impossible to clean the entire tub. Then he came up with an ingenious idea – why not take advantage of the rotation of the tub each time the washing machine is used to clean areas that easily become dirty to prevent them from becoming dirty in the first place? Allowing no room for compromise, his long-term efforts paid off with the development of Auto Self Clean. The result is a completely new kind of washing machine. Powerful Beat Washing
The bigger the diameter of a front loading washer drum, the more effectively dirt in fibers is removed. With Hitachi’s Big Drum 510 front loading washer, clothes are lifted up to the top of the large 510mm diameter drum and dropped down to provide a powerful beat washing effect. The beading pattern on the drum also provides a washboard effect to thoroughly clean clothes.

3D Sensor Control Wash*
The 3D Vibration Sensor, Load Sensor and Revolution Sensor work together to detect the fabric type and wash load, and control drum rotation speed to maximize the beat washing effect. The Load Sensor also controls the amount of water used to match the load size.

You can set the water temperature to match the items being washed and the degree of soiling. Washing in water as hot as 90°C lets you enjoy extra clean laundry.
Dual Vibration Control System Thanks to innovative anti-vibration technologies developed in Japan, Hitachi’s unique, quiet, anti-shake washing machines transmit hardly any vibrations. The 4-Ply Liquid Load Balancer and Hydraulic Suspension combine to provide exceptionally quiet operation from start to finish.
4-Ply Liquid Load Balancer If the items in the drum become unevenly balanced, liquid inside the 4-Ply chamber moves to the opposite side of the load to offset the imbalance. Making the drum better balanced in this way dramatically reduces vibrations. When the load is balanced, liquid inside the 4-Ply chamber is moved away from the center of rotation by centrifugal force.
When the load is unevenly balanced, the liquid moves to the opposite side of the load to eliminate the imbalance.
High-Damping Hydraulic Suspension Two oil pressure suspensions, just like the system used in automobiles, support the drum and flexibly change the degree of damping to match the amplitude of vibrations to dramatically reduce them. At the start of spin-drying when vibrations are large, thorough damping assures firm support for the drum. When the drum is spinning fast and vibrations are small, soft damping prevents the transmission of vibrations and provides gentle support for smooth operation. Support from two suspensions also minimizes transmission of vibrations to the washing machine casing.

56-Pole Inverter Motor
The inverter motor features 56 magnets with a fine pole pitch of 6.4°. Thanks to this small pitch, the motor rotates smoothly for exceptionally quiet operation. Based on information from various sensors, the inverter also controls rotation speed to improve efficiency and thereby save energy.

Load Sensor
Detects the size of the load and determines the amount of water to use, the wash time, and even when to switch the heater on for optimum energy-saving operation. It also determines drum rotation speed to ensure more efficient washing.
Foam Detection Sensor
Detects excessive foam generated when too much detergent is used. When too much foam is detected, water is poured on to eliminate it and maintain normal operation.
Water Temperature Sensor
Constantly monitors water temperature to maintain the set temperature and prevent energy-wasting overheating. If you select the cold water temperature setting in Cotton program, the sensor also detects the temperature of the tap water and sets the optimum washing time.
Water Level Sensor
Sets the optimum water level to match the load while constantly monitoring conditions to prevent water wastage.
Intelligent Sensing Intelligent Sensor Systems detect laundry size, fabric type and water temperature, and then control the method of washing to maximize energy and water saving. When the Cotton course with the cold water setting is selected for BD-W85TV, BD-W75TV, BD-W85TAE and BD-W75TAE , and Cotton course is selected for BD-W85TSP and BD-W75TSP, after laundry size, fabric type* and water temperature are detected, the optimum amount of water, wash/rinse/spin times, spin speed and number of rinses are determined for eco-friendly operation. Since the type of fabric is also ascertained, eco-friendly operation is ensured even if items made of synthetic fibers are detected in the load.

User-Friendly Functions Easy-to-understand Pictographic Indications Multiple pictographs provide option menu and program indications anyone can easily understand.
Self Correction System During operation, if a lot of foam develops or the tub becomes unbalanced preventing regular spin-drying, operation is automatically corrected. An LED in the display lights to let you know when operation is being corrected. When Self Correction operates, it takes the washer longer to finish a load.

180° Open Door and Large 33cm Diameter Opening For extra convenience the door opens 180°, so it doesn’t get in the way when you load and unload items. The 33cm diameter opening also enables easy loading and unloading of items.
Auto Power Off When the washing machine finishes operating, power is automatically switched off, so there’s no need to switch power off manually or worry about forgetting to switch it off and wasting energy.
Reverse Flow Protection A ball between the drum and drain pump floats up to prevent dirty water from flowing back into the drum, so the water used for washing is always clean. The ball also prevents liquid detergent being lost before washing begins.
Standby Power Zero W When not operating, Hitachi front loading washers use no electricity.
Water Leak Detection (Optional) If there’ s a leak due to water supply hose deterioration or other reasons, the supply of water is automatically stopped. The user is alerted when there’s a leak.

Child Lock To prevent accidental operation by children, this disables the operation buttons and dial, and also locks the door.
Fully Auto Restart Even if there’ s a power outage or power is shut off part way through a wash, the cycle (wash/rinse/spin) at the time is memorized. When power is restored, the same cycle automatically restarts from the beginning.

If you intend to install the unit under a counter, be sure to measure the size of the counter before making a purchase. A clearance of 3mm at the top and back and 6mm at both sides is required.

The unit is 850mm tall but if you remove the 30mm thick worktop, you can install it under a counter. If there is too much space between the counter and the top of the unit, you can use the four adjustable feet to make the unit up to 12mm taller for a neat fit under counters of various heights.

After extended use, deterioration of insulation may result in a motor becoming abnormally hot due to a current surge or other factors. In the unlikely event of this occurring, to contain the problem, motors feature a flame retardant cover and steel plate to protect them even if they are dropped when hot.

Safety measure for printed circuit boards
Urethane is used as the potting material for circuit boards on which multiple electronic circuits are mounted. This provides insulation against humidity and waterproofs the circuitry to prevent problems occurring even if condensation forms on the circuit board in high-humidity environments. Even in the unlikely event of electronic parts malfunctioning due to deterioration of insulation after extended use, to contain the problem, printed circuit boards feature a steel plate cover.
