The 4000 series of production switchers consists of two models— the Model 4000-2PKG and the Model 4000-3PKG. The Model 4000-2PKG includes a full-function control panel with a two Mix/Effects (M/E) system, a full length Program/Preset Mixer with mix and wipes and Dual Downstream Keyers (DSK). Up to 24 video inputs can be controlled directly from the Model 4000-2 control panel, plus another 24 shifted inputs. The system architecture provides unlimited effects re-entry. The full list of included options is provided under the package description later in this guide. The Model 4000-3PKG includes a three Mix/Effects (M/E) system and a full-length Program/Preset Mixer with Dual Downstream Keyers (DSK). Two Control Panels are available. The standard 3 M/E Panel is designed for the demanding requirements of the "live" broadcast environment with separate key rows per M/E, and individual E-MEM® control of each M/E. Up to 24 video inputs can be controlled directly from the Model 4000-3 control panel, plus another 24 shifted inputs. The system architecture provides unlimited effects re-entry. The standard panel consists of a main “tub” and a separate accessory panel. The modular “truck” panel includes a modular 3 Mix/Effects main panel and modules specifically designed to meet the needs of mobile production applications. The Model 4000 Series Production Switching System can include up to 64 inputs for video and key sources. Every video input can have an associated key input provided that the total number of video and key inputs does not exceed 64. The internal format of the Model 4000 is CCIR 601 component digital. Input and output formats have 10 bit resolution. The input formats are user selectable and may be a mix of component analog and component serial digital. Each serial input module supports 8 inputs. Each input is defined through personality programming to be a video or external key source. Automatic input timing is provided for each serial input. Program outputs from the switcher are provided in serial digital and analog component formats. Each M/E system includes two modes of operation. The traditional mode allows two foreground keys, with exchangeable priority, to be composited over the backgrounds. The Lamina™ Image Layering mode provides keying on the two background buses. Lamina mode provides 4 layer compositing within a single M/E. The composited image and composited key from an M/E in the layering mode is available as a source on another M/E or the DSK for further compositing. The background keyers provide luminance or linear keys with external key sources or self keys. Preset wipes are also provided on the background keyers. Unrestricted break-away keying is provided on all keyers. Any input to the switcher can be used as a key source. Each M/E has two full-function foreground keyers. The foreground keyers can be enhanced with Chroma Key and Borderline® key edge generator accessories. Each of the two full-function keyers in an M/E are capable of linear, luminance, and chroma keys (with dual chroma key option). The M/E keyers can use any of the switcher inputs for a video fill or an external key source. Each fill video can have an external key source associated with it or act as a self key. Each foreground keyer has several masking sources available. These include a dedicated shutter mask for each keyer, a mask video input, the M/E's wipe patterns, or optional mask framestore. NonAdditive Mix is available between the two foreground keyers. 1 Model 4000 Six matte generators are included in each M/E. These provide independent color matte fill for the foreground keyers, Borderline® key edge generator, and preset wipe borders. Each of the six matte generators has color wash facilities. Two color background sources, a color black source, and a test signal can be assigned to any video input. Each color background source has the unique Background Wash mode. Each M/E and the Program/Preset Mixer incorporate Preset Black. Auto Transition and Cut are standard in the M/Es and DSK. Mask dim and show key are available on the preview output. Show Key is a feature that routes the current key signal out to the preview monitor to assist in setting up keyers. Mask dim allows positioning of the masked area by dimming that area on the preview monitor. Each M/E includes a Full-Additive Mix (FAM) mode. FAM allows all four layers to be additively mixed together. The output of the FAM is clipped to proper levels. Signal processing facilities are also included in the M/E. Each input bus has adjustments for video gain, chroma gain, coring, key timing and opacity. The Model 4000 wipe systems include an extensive set of patterns. These patterns can be modified with rotation, pattern split, border width, border symmetry, border 2 Ordering Guide opacity, edge softness, aspect, vertical and horizontal multipliers, modulation and a rate controlled pattern positioner. The vertical and horizontal multipliers repeat patterns up to 8 times. A Texture pattern allows the creation of randomized noise for the creation of unique textures. An optional Secondary Wipe Generator provides additional wipe pattern flexibility within the M/E. The secondary wipe generator can be used for mask generation, a different preset pattern, or matte generator modulation. It also provides patterns which can be mixed with the patterns of the primary generator for the creation of limitless new pattern.s The pattern mix function also includes pattern NAM. Standard E-MEM® Effects Memory System provides storage for 100 complete switcher setups. Learns and recalls of switcher effect setups can be initiated on a combination of levels. (M/E 1, M/E 2, PGM/PST, DSK, BKGD, ETC.). The useful and versatile Effects Dissolve and Sequencer facilities are included in the E-MEM system. The basic EMEM system's operation has been greatly enhanced with the addition of keyframe based effects. This allows the smooth motion of wipe patterns around the screen. Keyframe-based effects in the Model 4000 E-MEM system simplify the creation of consolidated switcher and digital effects. A 3.5 inch floppy disk drive is included for storage of EMEM Effects set ups. An integral sync pulse generator is included and allows the system to be timed to an analog reference signal. The field rate is user selectable and can be set at 525/60 or 625/50. The system is also user selectable for aspect ratios of 4x3 or 16x9 at 13.5 MHz. The Model 4000 includes a dedicated editor interface port, diagnostic/maintenance port, status terminal port and GPIs and additional serial communication ports. Frame and control panel are each powered separately. The frame power supplies mount directly below the main electronic chassis. The panel power supplies, standard as well as redundant, are mounted inside of the control panel. One set of manuals, module extenders, and lens designations are supplied with each system. The control panel is connected to the electronics frame using a single serial cable. A 50-meter control panel cable is included with each control panel.
