GVP-123 – Maintenance / GVP-1 - Disassembly
3M™ Breathing Tube GVP-123 Maintenance The GVP-123 is the Breathing Tube that allows air to flow from the GVP PAPR to the Facepiece. The breathing tube should be replaced whenever punctures, cracks or general wear are found. 1) To remove it from the facepiece: a. Unscrew the breathing tube from the DIN.
2) To remove it from the motor blower: a. Unscrew the breathing tube from its connection point. 3) To clean the GVP-123 Breathing Tube: a. The breathing tube should be washed only with warm soapy water. Use of solvents on the breathing tube may result in softening, which could lead to tears or ruptures. b. Rinse the breathing tube in clean water. c. Store the breathing tube in an uncontaminated area.
3M™ Belt-Mounted Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) GVP-1 Disassembly 1) The GVP-1 is the entire PAPR System. If it has been dropped, or shows signs of damage due to impact or rough treatment, the unit should be removed from service and inspected. 2) The GVP-110 is the Power Cord. The power cord should be replaced when it is damaged or missing.

GVP-123 – Maintenance / GVP-1 - Disassembly 3) The GVP-100 is the Motor Blower. It should be replaced if the outside of the case is cracked. To remove the motor blower: a. Disconnect the GVP-110 Power Cord from the battery and the motor blower. b. Remove the GVP-122 Breathing Tube. c. Turn the PAPR assembly upside down so the breathing tube connection faces the ground. d. Unthread the belt from the plastic belt holder on the back of the motor blower. e. Remove the filter/cartridge by unscrewing it from the inlet port of the motor blower. 4) The GVP-101 is the Gasket Replacement Kit. It contains two replacement gaskets for the PAPR inlet and outlet. The gaskets should be replaced when they are cracked or excessively worn. To remove the gaskets: a. Use a flat edge screw driver to pull them away from the motor blower inlets and remove them. 5) The GVP-111 is the Battery Pack. The battery pack should be replaced when it is cracked, does not hold a charge or when the red battery light stays on for more than 20 minutes after connecting the battery to the charger. To remove the battery: a. Unthread the battery from the plastic belt holder on the back of the battery. b. If the battery requires charging, the “red” recharge light will come on and the battery pack will need to be charged immediately. This recharge light is not an airflow indicator. Airflow must be checked with the GVP-113 Airflow Meter. i. During charging the red light should turn off, if the light remains on for more than 20 minutes after connecting to the charger, replace the battery pack. Depending on the charging and use conditions, batteries generally last between 500 and 1000 recharge cycles. c. The battery pack must be charged in fresh air with no combustible vapors present. The battery should be charged at a

GVP-123 – Maintenance / GVP-1 - Disassembly temperature between 41º F to 77º F (5º C to 25º C). The time required for a full charge will increase and the potential recharge cycles will be reduced if charging takes place above 77º F (25º C). d. To charge the battery: i.
Plug the GVP-112 Battery Charger into a 115-volt AC outlet and push the connector into the battery.
ii. A red light on the battery charger indicates an electrical connection to the battery has been made. The light on the charger will remain on as long as electrical power is available and the charger is functioning. e. To properly dispose of the battery, follow local solid waste disposal regulations or the RBRC Battery disposal regulations or call the RBRC Battery Recycling Information Help Line at 1-800-8-BATTERY (1-800-822-8837). f. Additional battery Information: i. The initial charge on the battery should be for a minimum of 20 hours prior to use. Recharge the battery for 14-16 hours when the red battery recharge indicator light comes on during use or after every 6 to 8 hours of use. This battery is not harmed if it is left on a continuous charge past the normal 14-16 hour recharge time. However, a continuous charging for extended periods of time will reduce the life of the battery. Therefore, we recommend that a continuous charge be limited to no more than 1 week. The battery will lose approximately 20% of its capacity per month without use. 6) The GVP-115 is the set of Plugs used when cleaning the motor blower. The plugs should be replaced when they are damaged, worn or missing. To remove the plugs: a. Unscrew the GVP-115 Blower Plug and Filter Plug from the motor blower unit.
