The ambience that arises when people in large numbers gather around a common interest, has an attraction in itself. For a long time, Göteborg Film Festival has been a meeting place for the audience, but also for those who make films. As the films are being screened, formal business meetings and spontaneous get-togethers take place, providing inspiration and nourishment for future projects. Since 2008, the festival has worked on enhancing this particular function by creating a special forum for talented filmmakers who are at the starting point of their careers. Nordic Film Lab is a one year programme that has two functions: partly to be a place where you meet potential future work partners, and partly to be a place for in-depth discussions about the art of filmmaking and creativity. A discussion that many people look for in contrast to all the talk about economy and practicalities. Every year Nordic Film Lab ends at the same place as it began, at Göteborg Film Festival. The participants are invited back to the cross-collaboration between Nordic Film Lab and Nordic Film Market - Nordic Film Lab Discovery. Thanks to the collaborations with our partners, Norwegian Film Institute, Danish Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute and Film i Väst. We are proud and happy to welcome the 2015 installment of Nordic Film Lab! 18 Ali Abbasi Director Ali, born in Teheran 1989, has a background as an author and has published several short stories in Persian. Throughout the whole year Gothenburg and the West of Sweden are a lively environment for film and motion picture. Region Västra Götaland has a well-established position in the film industry, nationally as well as internationally, with key players like Film i Väst, that has co-produced more than 400 feature films, in addition to many TV dramas, shorts and documentaries during the last 23 years.Since May 2014 the City of Gothenburg has started an initiative towards further strengthening the screen sector in Gothenburg and Region Västra Götaland. New financial support towards innovation, production and post-production has been created. Film Funds Film i Väst www.filmivast.se Film i Väst is a regional film fund located on the Swedish West coast in Västra Götaland. In order to be eligible for financing from Film i Väst some part of a film’s production must be done in West Sweden. Now involved in 30-40 feature film and television projects annually, Film I Väst is the most significant source of funding for films in Sweden, after the Swedish Film Institute, and finances more international productions than any entity in Scandinavia. City of Gothenburg The City of Gothenburg is a keen host to film productions from all over the world. In order to facilitate the planning process as well as work on location a number of new initiatives has been launched. For further information please contact Åsa Bernlo, Director Film Development, Cultural Funding and Cultural Affairs Administration. E-mail: [email protected] and education within the areas transport, ICT and media. On behalf of the City of Gothenburg they support and stimulate the development of the media industry with a focus on film, TV, gaming and news media. Lindholmen Science Park runs a funding program for innovative development projects in film, television and moving images in g eneral. Through the Nostradamus project, Lindholmen Science Park and Göteborg Film Festival provides insights and analysis about the near future. Filmservice www.filmservice.se Filmservice is an online service for the film and TV industry, founded by Film i Väst. On the site you can find a directory of all professional filmmakers from the West of Sweden, a directory of suppliers who supply goods and services to film productions and finally a directory of extras.
