Activity Documentation Plugin
Tutorial: OMB Demo Logbook for Activity Documentation This logbook shows, how the Activity Documentation Plugin can create a complete documentation of all the activities in your logbook with just a few mouse clicks. You can easily print the documentation and/or upload it to your webserver using FTP. This particular page is edited manually with the plugin, but the other pages of the documentation are created from standard templates with just a few mouse clicks. Next steps:
Click on the items in the list below, to have a look at the activity documentations in this logbook. Read on to see how you can create a documentation like this for your activities with just a few mouse clicks
Note: once you have opened this logbook, SportTracks will automatically open it, when you close and reopen the program. In order to revert to your previous logbook, use "Other Tasks - Logbook - Open" and select your previous logbook. When you're not sure where to find it, have a look at post "Storage of SportTracks data" in the FAQs .

Activity Documentation Plugin
Tutorial OK, this looks nice and It's fun as soon as it's there. But won't it take me quite some time to achieve something like this? Nope! Just read on.
You'll have your first own documentation within just a few minutes time. Step 1: Install the Activity Documentation Plugin Click here and download and install the plugin. When you start SportTracks the next time, the plugin will be ready to use. Step 2: Open the demo logbook I've provided a demo logbook to facilitate your first steps with the Activity Documentation Plugin. I suggest that you use it for your first steps with the plugin. When you install the Activity Documentation Plugin, this demo logbook is copied to your PC. You find it in "Programs > Old Man Biking's SportTracks Plugins > Activity Documentation Plugin > Tutorial". Klick on this entry to start SportTracks and let the application open the demo logbook. Note: The logbook is (and must be!) installed in folder C:\OMBDemo. This folder contains the logbook file "OMB Demo.logbook" and a folder "Imported Images" that holds images for equipment items and the athlete.
Select November 1, 2009 in the SportTracks calendar and switch to the activity detail page "Activity Documentation" which is provided by the plugin. Now you should see exactly the page that you are currently reading. You can browse around through the activities in the logbook. Step 3: Create new documentations I've left a few activities without a documentation, so you can chose one of these to start creating activity documentations from scratch: OMB Demo, Biking, 15.11.2009 - 30.11.2009 Street Deutschland: Bayern: Pliening 15.11.2009 Street Deutschland: Bayern: Pliening 16.11.2009 Power based Deutschland: Bayern 17.11.2009 Street Deutschland: Bayern: Pliening 18.11.2009 Street Deutschland:Bayern:Markt Schwaben 19.11.2009 Street Deutschland: Bayern: Pliening 20.11.2009 Street Deutschland: Bayern: Pliening 21.11.2009 Street Deutschland:Bayern:Markt Schwaben 22.11.2009 Street Deutschland: Bayern: Pliening 23.11.2009
Open any of these activities (you can simply click on the item in the list above) and click on the "New documentation" symbol upper left of the Activity Documentation detail page. This will create a new documentation for this activity from one of several predefined templates, e.g. "Summary and Map".

tables horizontal rulers and page breaks for printout components - simply click on the "Components" entry in the toolbar, have your choice and see what happens; components are the most powerful feature of this plugin, so have a look at them one of the major components is the "Report" component, click here to see a documentation that uses it.
You can as well use text formatting capabilities as you know them from your text processor:
bold, italic and underline style insert headings and change font size indent and justify
Try out all the tools in the editor tool bar. Most of them show tool tips when you hover the mouse over them. Some of them provide keyboard shortcuts. Tools are enabled and disabled (greyed out) according to your current selection in the editor pane. There are even an Undo and a Redo button. There is a context menu for the editor pane as well. Right click on an item (hyperlink, image, table, component, ...) in the editor pane and the context menu will provide additional tools to manipulate the item. Once you're done, click on
to save your documentation to the logbook.
Note: The plugin saves the documentation in the logbook file. So all you're changes are no sooner persisted than you close SportTracks, saving the logbook file.
Step 4: Print your documentation Nothing easier than this: the toolbar item with the printer symbol
opens a menu with items to:
setup the page layout, view a print preview and print the documentation.
Step 5: Send your documentation via email Simply click on toolbar item ST.
and chose the recipient(s) of the email. The email looks exactly like the documentation that you see in
Step 6: Upload your documentation to a web server Now that you have this expressive documentation of your workouts, why not share it with others. Simply click on the upload button and let the plugin upload the documentation to your home page or any other web server that you can access via FTP. Of course, you need a home page and/or web space and need to know the hostname, username and FTP password for this. When you click on the upload button, the plugin will automatically take you to the plugin's settings page to let you enter the hostname and username for your web space and chose a toplevel directory on the server where the documentation shall be uploaded to. The plugin will ask you for the password, when the upload starts. As soon as the plugin starts uploading, it opens an upload status window that lets you monitor upload progress. The plugin will try to upload all necessary files, even those that you included as images or linked to from your documentation. It skips files that are already present on the server. So if in doubt, you can always upload all or many of your activities. It won't take too long. Upload finished? Click on the "open uploaded activity" button server.

Step 7: Working on many activities Not bad, isn't it? But I have dozens or hundreds of activities in my logbook. Do I have to undergo this procedure for each and every of them? No, of course not, simply:

open the "Reports" view of SportTracks select all activities that you want to create a documentation for use "Edit activity : Add activity documentation" to create documentations for all activities; Note: this will not overwrite existing documenations, only create new documentations for activities without a documentation
use "Export: Print activity documentation" to print one large document comprising all activies; I've used this (and a free PDF printer), to create a PDF document of this demo logbook. You can find it here.

Step 8: Creating your own templates OK, you're really an experienced plugin user now. And you like the standard templates for documentations that the plugin provides. But you have lots of ideas how a documentation should look like that suits your personal needs and taste. No problem, simply create your own custom templates. When you're editing a documentation and feel that it looks very much like a documentation should look like, click on the "Save as custom template" button , enter a name of your liking and you're done! The next time you create a new documentation and click on the down arrow of the "New documentation" button, it shows a new menu "Custom Templates" which hosts the templates that you create, including the one you've just saved. That's it. Let's just have another view at how components work. You might have saved the template of a documentation with a "Summary" component that showed all the details of the activity that you worked on when you saved the template. When you create a document for another activity from this template, the "Summary" will show the details of this other activity. So this is how components work. They always reflect the current state of your activity when you view, print or upload them. And Now? Try it out, use this plugin to create documentations for your own activities and logbooks. I'm curious to see what your documentations will look like. So please send me links to your uploaded documentation. Examples for Report Component I've inserted the following reports as an example for this new and powerful component. Note that you can click on the items in the first column of a tabular report to jump to the corresponding activity. First example is a graphical report showing a per week aggregation of your training distance, average speed and average heart rate. You can select from an abundance of parameters and can choose various aggregation schemes. Biking, 01.01.-31.12.2009 [Sorting: Week ascending, show only rollups]
