General Guide for setting up and operating the
Canon R400 HD High Definition Camcorder
Step 1: Unpack camcorder, power cables (or batteries), and tripod. Open tripod legs and loosen all fasteners. Raise the legs to the desired height.
Step 2: Attach the camera to the tripod. The 2 color dots should line up. Secure the camera with the 2 levers*. *The grey lever secures the camera, the smaller gold lever secures the grey lever.
Step 3: Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet or use battery power.
Step 4: Open the LCD view screen to turn the camcorder ON. If the camcorder has gone into Power Save mode, press the ON/OFF button on the left side of the camcorder to turn it back ON.

*Remember to open the lens cover before filming.
Step 5: Insert the SD card. Make sure it is secure and that the SD card door is closed. Use the W-T (wide/tele) lever to zoom in on, or zoom out of, your target location.

Step 6: Attach the microphone receiver to the camera using the MIC input. Turn on both the microphone and receiver. When they both have solid BLUE lights, they are ready to record. Secure the microphone to your shirt.

Step 7: Press the START/STOP button at the back of the camcorder to record. The LCD screen will show a red dot in the middle of the screen to indicate that you are recording.

Step 8: Press the START/STOP button at the back of the camcorder to stop recording. Press the PLAY button on the left side of the camcorder to review your recordings.
Step 9: At the event’s end, unplug the camcorder, release the tripod *, breakdown the tripod, and return all parts to the carry cases. First use the gold lever, and then the grey lever.

Step 10: To transfer recordings, connect the camcorder to a computer via the USB port, plug in the power supply, turn on the camcorder, then press the PLAY button on the left side. PLAY

Step 11: Copy your files directly to your computer. In Windows, they can be viewed using VLC Media Player ©. On a Mac, import your files using iPhoto©.
