See Figure 1 on the next page for detailed view of Engine AC Power Connector Engine to Computer (Wired) Connect the RJ-45 Ethernet port on the Engine to the RJ-45 Ethernet port on the computer using the supplied CAT 5E/6 cable Engine to Computer (Wireless Option) Plug in the USB Wireless Antenna to the Engine and power on the wireless router. The computer and Engine will automatically connect after about 30 seconds See Figure 2 on the next page for detailed view of the power connector Cabling Your Hindsight System (cont.) Figure 1. Engine Gigabit Connector Connect the Gigabit connector to the Engine carefully lining up the cable prior to tightening. See below for Engine cabling example. Figure 2. Camera Head Power Connector Connect the Gigabit and power connectors to the Camera Head(s) side. See below for Camera Head power connector cabling example. Carefully align the notch, then insert and tighten the large connecter. (Note the exploded view is upside down, the notch is located on the bottom of the connector) Carefully align the white mark with the raised notch on the small connector and the Engine. Insert, then tighten the cable. Note: The yellow lines in the drawings are not actually painted on the cable, they appear only for guidance in the drawings. Following power-up, if all cables are connected properly, the first LED light on the Camera Head(s) will display steady green and the second LED light will flash green. Eventually, once the Engine is fully booted to four solid green lights on the rear of the Engine, the third LED light on the Camera Head(s) will also begin flashing green to indicate data is transferring from the camera head to the Engine. If the first LED displays as amber, a communication problem exists, check that all cables are properly connected and power-up again. The fourth LED always remains off. 1 2 3 4 Powering on your Hindsight System Step 1: Connect the cables between the Engine, switch and Camera Head(s) shown in the prior pages. Follow either Wired or Wireless steps below: Wired: Connect the supplied network cable from the Engine to the PC/laptop. Wireless: Connect power to the wireless router. Connect the USB wireless antenna to the Engine using the available USB port. Step 2: Connect power to the Engine. The 2020CAM Engine will require about 30 seconds to power on. You should see four green lights on the back of the Engine when power-on is complete. Step 3: Power on the PC/laptop. The 2020CAM Viewer software will automatically launch. A small video preview pane will open on the left and a large full resolution image will open in the viewing pane. The system is recording and will continue recording until power is removed from the Engine. Each time the unit is powered on, the video buffer starts fresh and saved event clips are retained (see Save, Review and Export Events). Hindsight 2020CAM Viewer Software Get a Good View Camera Controls Icon Step 1: Use the clamp to mount the camera 3-15 feet (1-5 meters) from the object(s) for recording. Most lenses will not focus on objects closer than 3-ft (1m) away. Step 2: Use the other clamp to mount the light 1-4 feet (0.3-1.3 meters) from the object(s). While looking at the video output, move light around for optimal placement. Get the light close to the object but avoid pointing the light at the camera or at an object that reflects into the camera. Region of Interest Icon Figure 3. Camera Controls Dialog Step 3: Click on the Camera Controls icon in the software to show the camera setup dialog box (see Figure 2). Change the camera shutter speed to “freeze” fast-moving objects. The optimal shutter speed is dependent on the object’s speed but it is recommended to start at 1000 (1/1,000 second). Step 4: Zoom-in on the object(s). For manual camera users, use the camera’s center dial to zoom-in or out as appropriate in order to obtain the appropriate magnification of the object(s). Step 5: Focus on the object(s). For manual camera users, use the camera lens’ most forward adjustment ring to define the sharpness of the object(s). Figure 4. Manual camera lens Step 6: Adjust the iris. Closing the iris will allow the camera to focus on objects at different distances from the camera but will also darken the image. For manual camera users, use the lens adjustment ring closest to the camera. Step 7: Adjust the camera’s frames per second (FPS) recording rate by clicking on Frame. If you require more than 500 fps, click on the region of interest (ROI) icon, move your mouse to a corner of an area you wish to see in higher fps, click, move your mouse to the opposite corner of the area, click. The number shown when you resize the ROI area is the new FPS. To turn off ROI, click on the ROI Off icon. Screen will go back to full. Replay in Slow Motion Step 1: There are 3 ways to review video footage: 1a Move the slider bar located at the bottom of the screen. 1b Click and hold the center AccuScan control and move it to the right (forward) or left (backward). As the control continues to move farther right or left, the scan rate is increased in proportion to the horizontal distance from the center. Release the mouse hold on the control and playback will freeze. The control will snap back to the center. 1c Click the arrows located above the slider bar to move the clip forward or reverse frame-by-frame. The single arrows moves the clip one frame and the double arrows moves the clip multiple frames per click. Step 2: Move the slider to the far right to return to live video. Playback Methods Make a Clip Icon 1a Save, Review and Export Events The Hindsight 2020CAM Engine continually records when it is powered. Video is recorded into a circular, first in/first out memory. You can permanently save short video event clips by triggering an event either manually or with the optional Process Interface Unit. This will copy the selected video length from the circular recording memory to a permanent memory location on the Engine. Events can then be Downloaded from the Engine to your Client PC. In addition, you can edit existing saved events in the same way to save shorter events. Save Events: To create a manual event, click on the Make Event Icon. A dialog box will appear. To make a clip with the default pre and post times, click OK. To make a custom length clip, click on Override Default, scroll to the video frame to start the clip, click Begin Time, scroll to the end of the clip, click End Time and OK. Note that the maximum clip size is 1GB which is roughly 5 minutes of video at 500 fps at “medium” quality. Review Events: To view saved clips on the Client PC or the Engine, click on LOCAL COMPUTER (clips on client PC) or the CLIPS tab under the specific Engine name. Saved event clips and control icons will appear. Double-click or click and drag any clip to view it. Export Events: When at the Engine level, this icon allows you to Download an event or multiple event to your Client PC. Highlight multiple events using the Ctrl or Shift keys and click Download. The events will be copied to your Client PC. When at the LOCAL COMPUTER level, these same actions are used to Export event clips to a USB device. Figure 6. Make Event Dialog Figure 7.
