Important Information
1.1
General
The HiPath 1220 system comes with a wide range of features and, thanks to its modular expansion properties, lends itself easily to customer-specific configuration. System configuration and administration could not be easier in HiPath 1220 -- all you need is a connected computer and the HiPath 1220 Manager and HiPath 1220 Accounting Manager software applications supplied.
7
1.1.1
The HiPath 1220 system may only be operated as an in-house communication system. In other words, the station cables must not exit the building. Failure to observe this installation requirement will result in operating licence withdrawal.
Basic Configuration
HiPath 1220’s basic configuration features two S0 interfaces for connection to two ISDN ports and four analogue interfaces for the connection of four analogue stations: ●
USB port for connection to a Windows computer 1
●
User-friendly Windows tools, such as –
Installation Wizard for rapid first-time installation (the first time you start HiPath 1220 Manager)
–
HiPath 1220 Manager for system installation and administration
–
Accounting Manager for transparent call data evaluation
–
LED Status Display for indicating the system operating states on the computer
–
MoH Transfer Wizard for transferring MIDI files in system format
–
Software Update Wizard for updating the system software over the computer

Joining the Digital World of optiPoint 500
●
With a UP0/E base module (MSX) for joining the digital world of optiPoint 500 including two UP0/E interfaces for four optiPoint 500s, two of which are connected via optiPoint phone adapters with local power supply (requirement for operation with MPXU modules),
●
With UP0/E modules (MPXU) for two-phase expansion to a maximum of eight optiPoint 500 system telephones. For each optiPoint 500, one additional optiPoint 500 can be connected via an optiPoint phone adapter with local power supply attached.
1.1.3
Additional Expansion Options
●
With analogue modules (MPXA) for two-stage expansion to a maximum of twelve analogue stations.
●
With a random mix of optiPoint 500 and analogue stations, the maximum configuration possible consists of sixteen optiPoint 500s (connected via optiPoint phone adapter with local power supply) and six analogue stations.
●
With the relay/sensor module (MFXAS) for alarm generation and management options and an external music-on-hold facility (without port loss).

Follow the steps described below to mount the system:
To enable the computer to detect the HiPath 1220 system automatically, do not connect the system and the computer until you have started up HiPath 1220 and booted the computer. To close the system housing, start by connecting the USB or S0 cable (depending on the type of connection) on the system side.

Selecting the Installation Site
You must take the following into account when selecting the site: ●
The connection cables supplied permit the following distances: –
Distance between system and computer: approximately 1.5 m.
–
Distance between system and ISDN port (NTBA): approximately 2.5 m.
–
Distance between system and power outlet: approximately 1.5 m
●
To guarantee sufficient system ventilation, leave at least 10 cm clearance around the housing.
●
Do not sit or install on a metallic base.
●
Do not expose the systems to direct sources of heat (such as sunlight and heaters).
●
Do not expose the systems to extremely dusty environments.
●
Avoid contact with chemicals.
●
Take every precaution to prevent the formation of condensation on the system during operation. If condensation forms on a system, make sure the system has time to dry completely before starting it up.
●
To guarantee safety in the location selected for desktop installation, ensure that the lines exiting the system after cable connection are secured externally and are not at risk of disconnection by third parties.
You can start to connect cables once the HiPath 1220 system has been safely and securely installed (see Section 2.5, "Connecting the System").

Connecting optiPoint 500 System Telephones
The HiPath 1220 system features a digital UP0/E base module MSX and permits the connection of two optiPoint 500 system telephones in the basic configuration. Two cabling variants are available for system telephones in the basic configuration: Variant 1 Cable connection using pre-terminated connection cables with RJ11 connectors for system telephones installed near the system.
Variant 2 Cable connection using telephone cables without cable connectors for remote system telephones.

When using an optiPoint adapter in an optiPoint 500 (advanced/standard or basic), you can connect a second station depending on the type of adapter used. The second stations connected in this way are assigned the phone numbers 41 and 42 in the default configuration and can set up or accept calls irrespective of the optiPoint 500 connection status, provided a B-channel is available. You can connect a second station to an optiPoint 500 (advanced/standard or basic) in the HiPath 1220 system using the following adapters:

Connecting HiPath 1220 with the Computer
If the computer is connected to the system with the USB cable supplied (only for country versions with USB port), you must install the USB drivers supplied before installing the HiPath 1220 applications. As the installation of these drivers automatically starts with the connection of the USB cable, you should wait until shortly before software installation to do this (see Section 4.3, "Overview of Software Installation"). A communication server (CommServer) is used for communication between the computerbased HiPath 1220 applications and the system. This CommServer is automatically installed and inserted in the Startup group when a HiPath 1220 application is installed. The CommServer is consequently automatically started every time the computer is switched on and is available for the computer <--> system connection. ISDN S0 connection variants

Expansion with optiPoint 500 System Telephones
If the MSC base module is fitted with a UP0/E base module MSX, you can expand your HiPath 1220 system to include two UP0/E interfaces per MPXU expansion module in order to connect two optiPoint 500 system telephones. HiPath 1220 can be expanded with up to three expansion modules MPXU, which means that, including the MSX, you can connect eight system telephones (1 x MSX + 3 x MPXU) directly to the system. You can connect another optiPoint 500 to each of these eight system telephones by installing an optiPoint phone adapter, with the result that four optiPoint 500s can be operated per MPXU/MSX. In this way you can achieve a maximum configuration with up to sixteen optiPoint 500 system telephones. Proceed as follows to install the MPXU expansion module: 1.
Open the system housing as described in Section 2.3, steps 1 to 2.
2.
Plug the MPXU expansion module into one of the four slots (PX1 to PX3).
3.
