This easy-to-configure node consists of an ergonomic, rugged, die-cast aluminum housing. The housing supports an easy-to-use fiber management system, an easily replaceable power supply, an easily replaceable RF amplifier, and an optical board. The RF amplifier supports four bridger-level outputs. Each port has full return and powerpassing capability. Each RF return path signal can be individually muted by a transponder-controlled return mute switch which allows the system operator to remotely isolate the source of ingress to the plant. The HLN 3842A comes standard with an NRM 3811 optical receiver module. The optical board allows mounting of an additional forward receiver which can be used for fiber redundancy (A/B switching) or delivery of narrowcast services. The return from the output ports can be combined onto a single return transmitter or split between two return transmitters. The change from single forward receiver to dual receivers and from single to dual return can be made easily in the field at any time in a matter of minutes. This allows increased system reliability and scaling of the return bandwidth as traffic demands increase. The HLN 3842A uses the same return transmitters as Harmonic’s PWRBlazer Scaleable Node (HLN 3844A). A full range of transmitters, using various laser technologies, is available, allowing for the initial installation of a low-cost return transmitter, while providing for easy upgrades in the future.
