Growth Spurt Rick Nash is often praised for his unique combination of size, speed and finesse. According to Dave Hunter, former GM of the London Knights of the OHL who drafted Nash with the 4th overall pick of the 2000 draft when he was just 15 years old, that’s because he wasn’t always so big. Nash did not surpass 6 feet until he was in the 10th grade and only weighed 170 pounds when Hunter drafted him. Said Hunter: “He knew how to play in tight spots. Now he’s 6’4 playing a little man’s game, stickhandling in small areas. We watched him develop from not a very big kid into a monster.”

“Work ethic is so impressive..” “He’s a pretty quiet guy, but he leads the way he plays. He plays hard, but the work ethic is so impressive to see. I think it’s inspiring for a lot of guys to see. It’s not all about scoring or points, it’s about working hard and doing what’s best for the team — and he shows that. It’s great to have a guy like that on the team.” -Rangers teammate Henrik Lundqvist
“I love watching him...” “I love watching him just taking pucks to the net. He’s so strong and he skates really well so when he decides to go to the net, not a lot of guys can stop him.” -Rangers teammate Henrik Lundqvist
“It makes you nervous..” “When you play against him it makes you nervous because his anticipation allows him to get those odd-man rushes and scoring opportunities. If you’re careless or cavalier with the puck, he makes you pay. He’s the poster child for checking for chances. That’s what he does. His checking is really dialed up and he’s getting a ton of scoring chances because of it.” -Dallas Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock
“It’s inspiring...” “Other guys love being around him, love having him on the team. On the [penalty kill], he’s not only a threat to score, but he’s blocking shots, he’s putting his stick in the lanes. It’s inspiring. He’s pretty soft-spoken, but his game speaks for itself.” -Rangers teammate Chris Kreider
In Short Nash is t-3rd among all active players with 22 SHG behind Marian Hossa (34) and Brad Marchand. He is tied with Antoine Vermette.
