Yamaha Offers Complete HighPerformance Home Cinema Systems The PDM-1 perfectly complements the superb capabilities of Yamaha home cinema audio components, so customers can assemble an all-Yamaha system. Natural Black video performance, combined with CINEMA DSP audio performance, provides an unmatched home cinema entertainment experience. Natural Black Drive System Provides Astounding 3,000:1 Contrast Ratio High contrast is difficult to achieve with any plasma display panel because light emission depends on a pre-discharge method that is inherently not very good at rendering deep black. By reducing the amount of pre-discharge at black levels, the Natural Black Drive System not only deepens the depth of black to

making it possible for the monitor to deliver incredibly sharp, realistic images with an impressive 3D feeling. Adaptive Brightness Enhancer for Crisp, Vivid Images The Adaptive Brightness Enhancer automatically detects changes in image brightness, and when a dark scene occurs, activates sub-field control to expand the dynamic range between the deepest black and white peak levels. With this improved dynamic range combined with a reduction in video noise level, the monitor ensures clean, crisp, vivid reproduction of any scene at any brightness. Adaptive Gamma Optimizer for Faithful Image Reproduction on a Large Screen The Adaptive Gamma Optimizer produces 10-bit (over 1,000) gradations of black. By controlling the number of gradation levels and sub-fields according to the scene, it dramatically improves black reproduction in dark scenes, enabling subtle differences of black to stand out clearly in shadows and backgrounds. Video noise that makes the image look coarse and degraded is also reduced. As a result, the monitor delivers solid, realistic highquality images with the finest details and sharpest contrast. Color Performance Higher than that of CRTs Red and blue color purity, often a problem with plasma displays, has been greatly enhanced by developing higher quality phosphors and using a superior color filter in front of the panel. As a result, the PDM-1 provides primary color purity closer than ever to the level specified in HDTV standards (EBU standards in Europe), making it possible to reproduce high-definition images faithfully on a large screen.
or 1080i interlaced scanning into progressive scan images. This ensures that digital high-vision TV programs are seen at maximum quality, with virtually no flicker and with an amazing degree of clarity, sharpness and contrast across a wide range of brightness levels.
Conventional Panel vs. Asymmetrical Cell Structure Panel
3:2 Pulldown With film sources, the 3:2 pulldown I-P conversion system (interlaced to progressive) detects the format of the source signal and performs still image processing on each frame, making it possible to deliver sharp, true-to-theoriginal images without noise and flicker. In addition to DVD, 3:2 pulldown can improve the look of other video sources, such as satellite or cable TV.
Asymmetrical cell structure improves blue/green balance, for higher brightness after white balance adjustment.
Asymmetric Cell Structure Increases Brightness Conventional fluorescent cells of uniform width have poor blue luminous efficiency. Therefore, to achieve proper white balance, it is necessary to restrict the emission of green. This means that although the panel is capable of emitting high brightness, it cannot do so after white balance adjustment. The PDM-1 features an asymmetric cell structure, which increases the amount of blue emitted. As a result, it is not necessary to hold down the green brightness, and high brightness can be emitted after white balance adjustment. Because more blue is emitted, the color temperature adjustment range also increases.

Extensive Menu of Picture Controls and Other Functions You can use the remote control to display on-screen menus with a wide variety of control choices. Aspect ratio, for example, can be set to 4:3, 16:9, Zoom, Just (for Smart Stretch aspect) or Auto. You can adjust horizontal and vertical picture size, and make numerous picture adjustments, including Normal, Dynamic or Cinema mode, contrast, brightness, color, tint, sharpness, white balance and various advanced settings. Other functions include sound (even surround!) controls for use with the optional speakers, a timer and screensaver controls. Installation Flexibility A number of options allows the PDM-1 to be installed in any way to suit the individual's room space and system setup. PDM-1 Recommended System The DVX-S100 DVD Home Theater System is a perfect match for the PDM-1. Its slim, coolly professional center unit combines a high performance DVD player with a receiver offering the superb quality that Yamaha is famous for. The speaker system has five speakers and a subwoofer, so you can experience the full impact of 5.1channel movie sound.
