Swegon can offer specific products in most product areas that deal with air handling. However, the end user will benefit mostly from our products if they are supplied in the form of system solutions. We then take responsibility to ensure that the products are simple to install, save floor space and operate in harmony to provide the highest possible degree of comfort and use the least possible amount of energy.
Cooker hoods
Swegon CASA is a complete system for residential ventilation. Components from a single supplier guarantee that all units work together in a system and that correctly dimensioned products are available. For example, several ventilation units can be controlled from the cooker hood panels. Swegon personnel are there to help you with customised system solutions for specific applications as required.

Energy efficient fans with EC motors The unit’s fans are equipped with state-of-the-art EC motors. EC-motors are energised with alternating current and the built-in electronics convert this to direct current that makes the motor rotate. The advantage of EC motors is the integrated motor control that can be variably controlled and high efficiency even when they operate in the lower speed range. Generally, other types of motors or controls bring about losses, which are especially noticeable when operating at low speeds.
Straightforward and economical installation Installation of the ventilation unit is quick and easy and with that cost effective. Units can be wall mounted or suspended from the ceiling. Wall mounting bracket included either as standard or as an accessory. The ceiling mounting frame, available as an accessory for small units, makes it possible to complete duct routing and install the unit at any time.
RECOtite prevents freezing. Heat exchanger R85 is equipped with the patent pending innovation RECOtite. It ensures the correct pressure balance between the supply and extract air seal, which might otherwise be a problem for small airflows. This prevents unwanted moisture leakage and as a result minimizes the risk of freezing in the heat exchanger. A high SFP (Specific Fan Power) and low noise level are also realised as no extra pressure is needed in the extract air duct to prevent leakage.

A cooker hood can be connected to the unit Ventilation units in smaller sizes have an extra duct connection for connection to a cooker hood. This gives a cost-effective installation as there is no need of an extra fan, extract air duct and roof penetration and roof hood for the cooker hood.
Outdoor air Supply air Extract air Exhaust air Extract air from the cooker hood
The extract air from the cooker hood does not pass the heat exchanger, but instead is extracted directly out via the extract air fan. As an option, the ventilation unit can be controlled from a separate control panel or from the cooker hood panel.
Economical water-borne reheating All ventilation units in the W-series are available in Econo designs with a water-borne air heater instead of an electric air heater. Econo is an economic alternative when the home has a water-borne heating system with radiators or underfloor heating. The water-borne air heater in the unit can be switched on as an extra radiator or an extra circuit for underfloor heating, which gives a more economical heating means than with an electric air heater.

Heat recovery that makes you the winner
RECOnomic rotary heat exchanger
Counter-flow plate heat exchanger
The RECOnomic rotary heat exchanger consists of a rotating wheel made of aluminium foil composed of a multitude of small ducts. The warmer extract air heats the ducts and transfers heat to the colder supply air. The temperature efficiency is approx. 85% when the supply and extract air flows are the same.
Counterflow plate heat exchangers consist of thin aluminium plates that form parallel air ducts arranged at right angles to one another. The warmer extract air heats the plates and transfers heat to the colder supply air. The contact surfaces are large because the air streams flow in parallel and in opposite directions.
Advantages of rotary heat exchangers
The temperature efficiency is approx. 85% when the supply and extract air flows are the same.
• High annual efficiency as freezing rarely occurs. • Even a certain amount of moisture, removed with the extract air, is recovered to the supply air. This is especially beneficial in the winter when the outdoor air can be very dry and result in problems for people and interior fittings.
To consider:
• Outdoor temperatures below zero and a high indoor moisture load can bring about freezing in the heat exchanger’s air ducts. This causes the automatic anti-freeze protection to lower the speed of the supply air fan, giving the heat exchanger a surplus of warm extract air. During this period, there is a negative pressure in the home. • If the home has a high moisture load, the extract airflow must be sufficient to remove the moisture. Humidity sensors (accessory that automatically boost the unit’s fans) are recommended where the moisture load can be high, for example, in a utility room. • Since the same surfaces in the heat exchanger come into contact with both the extract air and the supply air, there is some risk for odour transfer, but in a home with its own ventilation unit, this is normally no problem.

Extract air
Advantages of counterflow plate heat exchangers
• No motor to drive the heat exchanger. • The Econo model permits economic reheating with the help of the property’s water-borne heating system. • The supply air and extract air have completely separate air ducts so any possible odours in the extract air cannot be transferred to the supply air.
To consider:
• Outdoor temperatures below zero and a high indoor moisture load can bring about freezing in the heat exchanger’s exhaust air section. An automatic anti-freeze protection then lowers the speed of the supply air fan and electric preheating is activated. In addition to the negative pressure in the residence, the air heaters for pre-heating and reheating are loaded. • The heat exchanger cannot recover moisture.

Solutions for detached and terrace houses Cooker hood to the ventilation unit.
Installation and investment costs will be lower if the ventilation unit’s extract air fan is also used for the cooker hood. However, it does not affect heat recovery as the extract air from the cooker hood does not go through the heat exchanger. One consequence will be that the ventilation unit’s extract air fan needs to be cleaned once or twice a year, but this is also necessary with a separate or integrated fan for the cooker hood. When using the Premium cooker hood the negative pressure is automatically compensated for through increasing the speed of the ventilation unit’s supply air fan.
Alternative A
The ventilation unit can be placed in a utility room or the like. The cooker hood is connected via the duct (which must be cleanable) to the unit.

Decentralised solutions for apartment buildings Cooker hood to the ventilation unit.
See the previous page, the same principle applies for apartment buildings as for detached and terrace houses. However, local restrictions may apply to apartment buildings with respect to cooker hoods being connected to the ventilation unit.
Main ducts for extract air or not?
It may be cost effective to use main ducts for extract air. You should be aware however that separate measures may be necessary to prevent air transfer, crosstalk and for fire protection. A joint power roof ventilator also requires pressure control. Separate extract air for each apartment through the facade is also a possible solution, yet local restrictions against this may apply.
Alternative E
The ventilation unit can be placed in a utility room, stairwell or the like. The cooker hood is connected via the duct (which must be cleanable) to the unit. • Cost effective installation as the cooker hood does not need a separate fan, extract air duct, roof penetration or roof hood.

Centralised solutions for apartment buildings
Home Solution Central
Home Solution Central is a system solution where the centrally placed ventilation unit serves the required number of apartments with supply and extract air via main ducts or shafts. An appropriate ventilation unit is selected from the Swegon GOLD range. The ventilation unit is pressure controlled and the airflow is regulated in each apartment via the control damper, which is controlled by a timer and presence detectors. Allowing an economical low flow when no one is at home. The cooker hoods have their own extract air duct with a pressure controlled power roof ventilator that serves the required number of apartments. The cooker hood’s extract airflow is compensated automatically with increased supply air and reduced extract air via the control damper. The residents do not need to worry about the indoor climate in the apartment, everything is performed automatically.
WISE Apartment Solution for renovation
WISE Apartment Solution is a special solution for the renovation of apartment buildings. A centrally placed ventilation unit serves the required number of apartments with supply and extract air via main ducts or shafts. An appropriate ventilation unit is selected from the Swegon GOLD range. The ventilation unit is pressure controlled and the airflow to each apartment is regulated via an intelligent technical box that adjusts the airflow automatically according to signals from air quality and moisture sensors. At the same time as this involves maximum comfort for both individuals and the building, it also means energy efficient operations, where you ventilate just as much as needed, no more or no less. The main installation in each apartment is placed in the hall, only the openings for the air diffusers need to be made in the different rooms. A prefabricated duct cover provides discreet coverage of ducts and drill holes, at the same time as it is quick and easy to install on site. In many instances, the installation can be performed without subsequent repair or painting in the apartment. An integrated fire solution and a smart distribution box for each floor are other examples of time and cost-saving advantages of the WISE Apartment Solution. 8

Quick Guide Premium control system Function
Description
User interface
Settings and adjustments for the operation of the unit are made via a control panel with pushbuttons and a display. The desired language can be set. The control panel also features an LED that indicates different functions. If the Premium cooker hood is connected to the unit, the operating mode can be controlled from the cooker hood.
Fan speed
Five fan speeds for the supply air fan and extract air fan can be preset. The preset fan speeds are then chosen for the different operating modes.
Operating mode
Normally the following operating modes are used: Away = Low fan speed when no one is at home. At Home = Normal fan speed. Boost = High fan speed Additional operating modes can be used, e.g. for summer night cooling and in connection with demand regulation, e.g. with a humidity sensor.
Timer
24-hour/weekly timer featuring four programs for automatic time control of the operating modes Away and Home. Operating modes can be changed manually from the control panel, or the cooker hood.
Temperature control, winter mode
If the capacity of the heat exchanger is not sufficient to reach the required supply air temperature the following occurs: The R-series and W-series with electric reheating: 1) The electric air heater is enabled when the supply air does not reach the temperature set on the control panel’s display. 2) R series: If the supply air still does not reach the desired temperature, the speed of the supply air fan is reduced. The W-series with water-borne reheating: 1) The required temperature for the supply air is reach through regulating the hot water flow in the unit’s water coil according to the manual setting on a thermostat valve.
Temperature control, summer mode
R series: The rotary heat exchanger stops automatically when there is no heating requirement. W series: A bypass damper is opened manually (W80 &100) or automatically (W130 & 230) when there is no heating requirement. The outdoor air or extract air is then led pass the heat exchanger.
F ree cooling in the summer (Only R85 & R120)
The summer night cooling function is enabled, if specific temperature conditions are met. The heat exchanger in the unit stops, any electric air heater is switched off and even the speed of the fans can increase. The cool outdoor air is then used to cool down the home.
Cooling recovery (Only R85 & R120)
In the summer if the indoor air is cooler than the outdoor air, the rotary heat exchanger starts and recovers the relative cooling from the property’s extract air.
Negative pressure compensation
If the Premium cooker hood is connected to the unit, the negative pressure is compensated when the cooker hood damper opens. Other cooker hoods or central vacuum cleaners require a separate differential pressure sensor in the extract air duct of the cooker hood/central vacuum cleaner, see the table over electronic accessories.
Fireplace switch function
The function can be selected and temporarily increases the speed of the supply air fan and lowers the speed of the extract air fan. The positive pressure that then forms in the property presses out the air through the chimney and prevents smoke from entering the room when the fire is lit.
Operating mode display
The current operating status is shown continuously with text on the control panel display and by different LED colours.
Service reminder
The reminder interval for service can be set from 3–12 months.
Alarms
In the event of operating disturbances an alarm is given through a flashing red LED and an error message in plain text on the control panel’s display.
Overheating protection
Automatic protection that stops motors and an electric air heater, if installed, in the event of a high temperature.
Anti-frost protection
R series: The speed of the supply air fan is lowered in the event of a risk of freezing in the heat exchanger. W series: The electric air heater is enabled to preheat input air and the speed of the supply air fan is lowered in the event of a risk of freezing in the heat exchanger.
Communication
Communication and remote control can take place via a Modbus gateway (accessory) where all control functions can be made available via Modbus RTU. Communication can also take place via external equipment through connection to the inputs and outputs on the unit’s DDC terminal block, which makes it possible to read the operating status and control the fans and temperature 0-10 Volt.
