How to take part in the Orkney Community Digital Heritage project This is a project with Centre for Nordic Studies and community heritage groups throughout Orkney. All are welcome to take part, whether you are involved in a heritage group or not. … or anything you wish to share, really! How do I do it? IF YOU ARE USING YOUR OWN DEVICE START FROM HERE: 1) You need a smartphone or “tablet”, for example an iPad, Hudl, or a fairly new mobile phone such as iPhone. If you don’t have one, you can borrow one from Centre for Nordic Studies. If you don’t know how to use one, please get in touch with us and we can show you. 2) Open a web browser, such as Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer 3) Go to http://fieldtripgb.blogs.edina.ac.uk/download/ and press one of these: You will then get the free “app” (programme) Fieldtrip GB. You will need to know your own App Store password or Google Play password. This is something you set up when you first got the device1. 4) Go to “apps”. Open Fieldtrip Gb and press “OK” to the first question. You will see this: Login 5) Press “login” (picture of a padlock). You get to a page with two boxes, one saying email and the other password. Put in this: e-mail: [email protected] password: Orkney 6) Click “allow” to the next question 7) Go to “home” and then “Download forms” where you will find “Orkney digital heritage” – This stores the form so you can use it even when you are offline. You are now ready to start recording your memories and stories! 1) 1 If you don’t know your password, follow the instructions here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201354 (for iPad or other Apple devices) or here: https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery/?ard=AHwGkRmvLQLnpTaELjtIIWcwAw 92C4993E-ITcVYoQFPiWDp79SU4hThfUWuebH26uIPTyPEGzMnQzrxdVMOGsDZQnz4EWfMm1ZWNdI 7jXGNOG5Dq-zDFow1RqVBgBT82dnNCPY9HpI1bL2vg228bQMnDGPJycyVQ IF YOU HAVE BORROWED A “HUDL” TABLET FROM CENTRE FOR NORDIC STUDIES YOU CAN START FROM HERE 8) Go to the place you are interested in. You don’t need to have an internet connection while you are there. 9) Open the Fieldtrip Gb app. You do this by pressing this picture with your finger: If you can’t see it at first, try dragging your finger from right to left on the screen. 10) The GPS in your tablet or phone knows where you are – you don’t need to tell it where you are. 11) Go to “capture” and select “Orkney digital heritage” under custom forms 12) It will now ask you questions where you can share your stories. Fill in the bits you want by touching the boxes on the screen. Name of the place or person, e.g. “Old Orkney Arts Theatre” Choose from the list Press here to take a photo Press here and then the red record button to speak Or you can write about it 13) Click “save”. 14) It will now say “getting GPS fix” but just wait until it has finished thinking. Don’t worry if you can’t see the map. You will see it next time you have an internet connection. Click “save” again. 15) When you are back in a place with an internet connection, go into the Fieldtrip app again, click the “home” button and then “upload records” (picture of an arrow pointing up). We will put everything on a giant map on a website, for all to enjoy. Want to know more or need help? Phone Raggie on 01856 569 302 if you have any questions. We can also come to the isles.
