How to recover deleted files Oh no! Accidentally deleting an important file can seem like the end of the world. A permanently deleted file is not completely removed immediately, but the space can now be overwritten by the computer. For best deleted file recovery results, stop other programs or processes that can write to disk – this protects the file.
● Check your Recycle Bin or Trash Can Most files end up here if you didn’t choose to permanently delete. Find it on the Desktop, and sort by date to find the most recently dele t ed files. Click ‘Restore this item’ or ‘Restore all items’ to recover deleted files. The Cloud and Dropbox also have a Recycle Bin.
● Recovering deleted files from backups Are you backing up your files? Deleted file recovery from a backup is the easiest option. Open the Start Menu , click Control Panel, then System and Maintenance , then Backup and Restore to recover your files.
● Deleted file recovery from previous versions
If you haven’t manually made a backup, don’t worry! Windows has automatic backup processes in place called ‘ previous versions ’. For Windows, use the Start Menu or Explorer Menu to navigate to the folder containing the permanently deleted files. Right click and choose ‘ Restore previous versions ’ You will get a list of restore points to choose from. Restoring deleted files replaces the current version on your computer, and is not reversible.
