UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN BRITISH COLUMBIA Computing and Telecommunications How to save on USB Flash memory: 1. Make sure your USB flash memory is plugged into one of the USB ports. There are 2 USB ports on the left side of your monitor and 2 more on the front of the computer. USB ports on the CPU USB flash Memory with the cap on 2. If it is plugged in properly, you should see an E: drive on “My Computer”. It should look like the following picture: Note: If you are using your USB at home it may show up as a different drive letter. 3. Now go to the location where you have the files you want to save on the USB Memory. 4. Select file or folder (press down CTRL key to select multiple files), right click on the highlighted file or files, and select “Copy”. 5. Now go to “My Computer” location and right click on USB MEMORY (E :) 6. Click “Paste”. 7. You should have a copy of the file or folder copied on your USB MEMORY. Using drag and drop option to copy on USB flash Memory: You may also use Microsoft Windows Explorer to use drag and drop option. 1. Open up Microsoft Windows Explorer window by clicking on: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer The following window will open: 2. On the left you will see USB MEMORY (E:) option (assuming you have Flash Memory Plugged in). 3. Now click a file you want to copy on the USB MEMORY device (for example: you may select a folder from your H: drive called “Documents”), do not release the button you just clicked. 4. Drag it over the window to the USB MEMORY (E :) location (You will see it moving in the back ground when you drag it). 5. Now just release the mouse button. You should have a copy of the folder “Documents” in your USB Flash Memory.
