Instructional Video Series How to Upgrade/Replace the Hard Drive in a PlayStation® 4 system Skill Level: Easy Time to Complete: Approximately 30 Minutes Required Tools: • Small Phillips Screwdriver • USB Flash Drive Before Proceeding: Make sure you have an up-to-date backup of your data. • Perform upgrade using proper anti-static precautions • Discharge static electricity before beginning • Work on a static free surface Part One: Replacing the Original Drive 1. The first step is to shut down the system and disconnect any cables. 2. Next, gently press down on the drive bay cover and slide it away from the system to loosen it. You can then lift it up and set it aside. 3. -1- Then, remove the single Phillips screw holding the drive tray in place. The drive tray can then be removed by simply sliding it out of the bay. 4. 5. The new drive can now be installed. Slide the new drive into the drive tray making sure that the SATA and power connections face outwards. 6. Secure the drive in the tray using the 4 Phillips screws that were removed earlier. There are 2 screws to replace on either side. Remove the 4 Phillips screws holding the drive in the drive tray. There are 2 screws on either side of the tray. Then, slide the drive out of the tray and set it aside. -2- 7. Next, slide the drive tray back into the drive bay. Then secure it with the Phillips screw that holds it in place. 8. Place the cover back over the drive bay. Then slide the cover into place. -3- Part Two: Setting up the New Drive 9. On the USB storage flash drive, create a folder named “PS4”. Then, inside of the “PS4” folder, create another folder named “UPDATE”. 11. Reconnect the system, but be sure that it is completely turned off, so that the power indicator is not lit. 12. Plug in a controller as well as the USB card containing the 10. Next, using a computer with internet access, download the PS4 update file. Then hold the power or PS button for at least 7 seconds. The system should start up in safe mode. update file for new installations, and save it in the “UPDATE” folder. Select “Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)” and follow the prompts to complete the update. Once the system restarts, your PS4 is ready to use. The installation is now complete!
