Technical Information How to Use the Sentinel R700 Test Kit R700 Test Kit Components • • • Sentinel R700 Test Strips Dipslides Sample Bottle Introduction The R700 Test Kit is designed to ensure the correct use of Sentinel R700 in Ground Source or Air Source Heat Pump systems. These systems may suffer from problems caused by the growth of bacteria and fungi. Typically, the efficient operation of a system will be disrupted by blockages, unpleasant smells and corrosion. The correct use of Sentinel R700 will eradicate these problems by removing any existing contamination and by preventing its subsequent development. Use of the Sentinel R700 Test Kit will establish the correct level of Sentinel R700 and confirm that bacteria have been eliminated from the system during commissioning procedure for new systems, ongoing service maintenance or the cleaning of fouled systems. The System Service Log sheet can be printed on which to maintain a record of results and actions taken at times of the annual service visit. 2. Dip one of the test strips in the sample for one second and shake off excess liquid. 3. After 10 seconds compare with the colour scale on the side of the container. The concentration of Sentinel R700 within the system should always be at least 100ppm. Dipslides 1. Remove the cap/tongue unit from the tube, and, without touching the gel, immerse the tongue in the water to be tested for about ten seconds. 2. Allow excess fluid to drain for a few seconds. 3. Replace in tube and label as required 4. Incubate the dipslide upright at room temperature for 48 hours. 5. Without removing the slide from the tube compare the density of colonies on the pale straw-coloured side of the dipslide with the chart below. Procedures For full procedures in the use of Sentinel R700 and when to use the Sentinel R700 Test kit, refer to the Technical; Information sheet entitled “Sentinel R700 Sanitiser & Biocide for Heat Pump Systems - Application Guidelines” which is available at www.sentinel-solutions.net or available from Sentinel Performance Solutions Ltd. Test Equipment Instructions Sentinel R700 Test Strips The Sentinel R700 Test Strips are a quick and easy way of confirming the concentration of Sentinel R700 in the system. The procedure for using the strips is as follows: 1. Collect a sample from the system using the sample bottle supplied. At all times the bacterial level in the system should be less than 103 cfu/ml. Storage of Dipslides Store in a cool dry place (optimum 8 – 15oC). Use before the expiry date on the box. Do not use slides if there is any sign of growth before opening. Slides remain usable while the agar is smooth and attached to the slide. A small amount of water may collect in the bottom of the tube. This is condensate from the agar and does not affect the performance, provided the agar still fills the tray. Disposal Used slides should be incinerated, autoclaved or soaked in disinfectant for several hours before disposal.
