Manual version: APW100-20140506 BOM: 3105A031 Part number: 5998-5831 HP bottom-support rails (JH042A) installation guide 1 Introduction The HP bottom-support rails (JH042A) have an adjustment range of 630 mm (24.80 in) to 900 mm (35.43 in). 2 Installation procedures Before using a bottom-support rail, follow these guidelines: • The bottom-support rails are applicable only to four-post racks. • The installation of the bottom-support rails might vary with different types of racks. The following installation procedure is for your reference only. • The depth of the rack falls into the length range of the bottom-support rail. • A set of bottom-support rails can bear a weight of no more than 70 kg (154.32 lb). To install a bottom-support rail: 1. Read the signs on the bottom-support rail to avoid making a mistake. Figure 1 Left bottom-support rail (1) Sign 2. (2) Guide rail (3) Installation hole Mark the position on the rack for installing the bottom-support rail, as shown in Figure 2. a. Insert the positioning tab at the bottom of the bottom-support rail into the lowest square hole within the 2U space on the rack post. Ensure that the installation holes on the bottom-support rail are aligned with the square holes on the rack post. b. Each rack post requires four screws to secure the bottom-support rail. You only need to mark the uppermost square hole and lowermost square hole for installation. c. (2) Lowest square hole within the 2U space on the rack post Install four cage nuts on the square holes on each rack post, as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3 Installing a cage nut 4. Do the following as shown in Figure 4: a. Align the installation holes on the front end of the bottom-support rail with the cage nuts on the front rack post. b. Compress the bottom-support rail, making sure the positioning tabs at both ends of the bottom-support rail are inserted into the lowest square holes within the 2U space on the rack posts. c. Use screws to secure the bottom-support rail to the rack posts. 2 Manual version: APW100-20140506 BOM: 3105A031 Part number: 5998-5831 Figure 4 Attaching the bottom-support rail to the cage nuts with screws (1) Compress the bottom-support rail, making sure the positioning tabs are inserted into the square holes (2) Install fastening screws TIP: Install a screw in each mounting hole of the bottom-support rail to ensure its weight bearing capacity. 5. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to install the other bottom-support rail.
