Appliance installation/upgrade instructions For installation/upgrade instructions, refer to the “Appliance update” chapter in the HPE OneView 3.10 Installation Guide. In particular, note the changes that should be made to the appliance VM size prior to performing the update.
Back up the appliance after the update After updating your appliance, remember to create a new backup file. The platform type, hardware model, and the major and minor numbers of the appliance firmware must match to restore a backup. The format of the appliance firmware version is as follows: majornumber.minornumber.revisionnumber-buildnumber The revision and build numbers do not need to match. You can only restore backup files created with an HPE OneView 3.10 appliance with the identical hardware model.

Issues and suggested actions The issues and known limitations in this release are described here.
Issue with SAN auto-zoning feature SAN auto-zoning feature is incompatible with HPE Smart SAN for 3PAR target driven peer zoning. Suggested action When using HPE OneView SAN auto-zoning, do not simultaneously zone the SAN with 3PAR Smart SAN zoning.
CHAP name length limit When configuring iSCSI connections in a server profile for a server containing Qlogic or Broadcom adapters, the CHAP name should not be more than 128 characters. The maximum CHAP name length for these adapters is not enforced by HPE OneView 3.0, and can cause the blade to fail to connect to the storage if exceeded.
Authorization error after HPE OneView 3.0 update When updating from HPE OneView 1.2 to 3.0, login session tokens change from 32 characters to 48 characters, resulting in invalidating the login session tokens created before the update. This will generate an authorization error for all script commands that use the old login session tokens for authorization. Suggested action Obtain a new login session token after the update is completed.
Issue with HPE OneView 3.0 update When updating from HPE OneView 1.x/2.x to 3.0, it is possible that the update fails. Suggested action Log out of all browsers windows connected to HPE OneView and retry the update.
Display issues when using Internet Explorer 10 When using Internet Explorer 10, the connection lines in the HPE OneView pages that display topology (interconnect link topology, frame link topology, logical interconnects and logical interconnect groups) cannot be highlighted. Suggested action Use other HPE OneView supported browsers. NOTE: Support for Internet Explorer 10 will be removed in a future release.
8
Issues and suggested actions
Server power on event not detected for servers where iLO4 is configured with SNP Servers with iLO4 that have SNP configured may sometimes not send out a "power on" event when the server is powered on. This causes HPE OneView to not detect that the server has been powered on and hence cause the power state of the server in HPE OneView to become inconsistent with the power state of the actual hardware. This could cause multiple issues in HPE OneView such as failures during profile application, etc,. Suggested action Refresh the server after every power on operation or always use a dedicated network port as recommended.
Issue with server power state when performing Logical Interconnect firmware update When performing a logical interconnect firmware update using the parallel activation method, server power state is not validated and the update is not blocked when some servers are powered on. The logical interconnect firmware update screen already provides clear indication of the potential outage. Suggested action Update the logical interconnect firmware via the firmware update action on the logical enclosure, selecting the shared infrastructure option, or power off the servers prior to the logical interconnect firmware update using the parallel activation method.
Extra 3PAR volumes appear in profile dropdown menu More than the expected number of volumes may appear in the Existing volumes dropdown of the Add volume page of Create / Edit profile, if a direct attach network is associated with more than one interconnect across different enclosures and the same direct attach network is also used across multiple storage systems. Suggested action Review the Existing volumes dropdown list and select the appropriate volume, depending on the storage system name, which is displayed along with the volume name. If the selected volume is not accessible through the ports defined in the server profile, the attempt to attach the volume will fail. Select another volume that is accessible and try again.
Some tasks and alerts contain the server’s uniform resource identifier (URI) instead of the server name Some tasks and alerts do not contain links to the referenced server. Sometimes the message references the name of the server and sometimes the server’s URI. While it is easy to look up the server by name, looking it up by the URI is difficult. Suggested action 1. Go to the server-hardware page in HP OneView 3.0. 2. Use the search bar to look up the server by URI. Prefix the search with {_uri:}, for example, {_uri:/rest/ server-hardware/123-45-67-809}.

Fibre Channel link issues for 650M and B22HP Fabric Extenders In an enclosure configured with B22HP Fabric Extenders (FEX), users may see issues where FlexNIC connections configured for Fibre Channel are unable to find a boot source in UEFI-mode and show that the link was down when examined via the ROM-Based setup utility (RBSU). Customers using legacymode for boot may not receive a notification due to the difference in behavior between the two boot modes. The issue lies in the way the FlexNIC was programmed where Ethernet functions were not enabled when Fibre Channel connections are the only connections configured in the server profile for the FlexNIC. This particular configuration requires at least one Ethernet function enabled for the Fibre Channel function to be properly configured. Suggested action To avoid issues associated with blades being unable to find Fibre Channel boot sources or accessing volumes once an operating system is loaded, users are advised to create an Ethernet connection on each port of the FlexNIC connected to a B22HP Fabric Extender in c7000 enclosures. The addition of that single Ethernet connection ensures the FlexNIC is properly configured and the Fibre Channel capabilities are properly enabled.
Remote support data collection fails during server hardware removal and insertion Performing server hardware removal and insertion during scheduled remote support data collections may cause collections to fail. Suggested action Schedule server hardware removal and insertion outside of a scheduled collection operation or change the planned time of the scheduled collection.
Issue with bulk power actions Bulk power actions (for example, multi-select power actions) via the server profile page may not work as expected. Suggested action Power servers individually or perform bulk power operations via the server hardware page.
Limitation when managing Cisco Nexus 5K/6K switches Boot from SAN via server profile configuration is not supported when HPE OneView is managing Cisco Nexus 5K/6K switches with B22HP Fabric Extenders.
Issue with HPE OneView CLI login through SSH If the user selects Require acknowledgment of the login banner message in the Settings > Security > Edit page or through the /rest/logindomains/global-settings API, the HPE OneView CLI login will fail. Suggested action Deselect Require acknowledgment from the Settings > Security > Edit page in GUI or through the / rest/logindomains/global-settings API.

Fibre Channel link issues for 650M and B22HP Fabric Extenders
After restoring from backup, server hardware may incorrectly report a locked alert This condition can be identified after a restore by noting that the time of the locked alert corresponds to a previous backup operation. After the restore completes, refresh the server with the locked alert. If the refresh operation was successful but the locked alert remains, this is probably a stale locked alert. Suggested actions 1. Remove and re-import the enclosure or rack server. If the server hardware showing the alert is a blade server, remove the blade from the enclosure and also remove all the blades in that enclosure; then readd the enclosure (with all the blades). Though time consuming, this is generally the safer choice. For a rack server, the server can be removed individually without having to remove the whole enclosure. 2. A quicker solution is to delete the stale locked alert that was created before the backup. This can be done by issuing the following REST API call using administrator credentials: DELETE https://
/rest/alerts/?force=true The number can be retrieved by selecting the locked alert in the UI and recording the trailing digits in the URI. For example, if the URI is: https:/// #/server-hardware/ show/activity/r/rest/server-hardware/?f_sort=name%3Aasc& activityUri=%2Frest %2Falerts%2F26, the alert ID is “26”.
Post-restore remote support After restore of an appliance to a new appliance IP address, a refresh is required to re-enable the devices for remote support. Suggested action If the devices are enabled for remote support, refresh the enclosures and server hardware to re-establish communication between the appliance and the devices.
Issue with dialog buttons when using Chrome version 53.0 When using Chrome version 53.0, the buttons for submitting or closing some dialogs are hidden or misaligned. Examples of dialogs impacted are Profiles/Profile templates, Add Connection, Add Volume, Edit Logical Interconnect Group, Add Uplink Ports, etc. Often, this can be fixed for the duration of the dialog by resizing the browser window vertically. Suggested action Try one of the following alternatives: 1. Resize the browser window vertically. The resize has to be a vertical resize to make the browser shorter, not a horizontal-only resize. 2. Use another HPE OneView supported browser (Firefox or Internet Explorer).
Duplicate alerts seen in activity page when a server is powered on When a server is powered on, duplicate (up to 4) server powered on and server reset detected lifecycle alerts may be seen on the activity page. Suggested action Ignore the duplicate lifecycle alerts.
After restoring from backup, server hardware may incorrectly report a locked alert
11
On Server Hardware online help page, Ports screen does not specify the displayed MAC Address The online help page for the Server Hardware, Ports screen does not specify whether the Address field displays the virtual or physical MAC address. Suggested action Note that the Address field displays the physical MAC address
Update appliance status doesn't switch to Validating During appliance update, the upload progress bar may appear stalled for approximately 5 minutes displaying 0 or 1 second remaining while it is validating the uploaded update.bin. Suggested action No action needed from the user. Once the validation completes, upgrade will proceed.
Error occurs after appliance re-boot, display alerts on server hardware If the HPE OneView appliance is re-booted when managing multiple enclosures, you may see the following error message. • • •
An internal error has occurred. Add/update resource failed. Object may be invalid.
Suggested action The HPE OneView appliance will continue to operate normally, and the alerts can be cleared.
Server profile turns critical when SAN storage is in warning and one path is in green state If a profile is red due to a "UpdateFailed" activity for SAN storage, a simple Edit/OK on the profile may not be sufficient to clear the "UpdateFailed" state. In this case, it will be necessary to make a minor change, like to the name of the profile, to trigger another update activity to SAN storage, once the reason for the initial update failure has been resolved. Suggested action Once the reason for the initial update failure has been resolved, edit the profile and make a minor change, like to the name of the profile, to trigger another update activity to SAN storage. You can then change the name of the profile back to the desired name.
Logical Interconnect apidocs contains unsupported REST requests - update translated pages (JA, ZH) The translated pages in HPE OneView REST API Scripting Help do not note that PUT /rest/logicalinterconnects{id}/settings is deprecated and will be removed in the next major release of HPE OneView. Suggested action
12
On Server Hardware online help page, Ports screen does not specify the displayed MAC Address
If you are using this API statement in current code, plan for its replacement. Consult the HPE OneView API Reference for specific recommendations.
Supporting of multiple port attachments when a 3PAR Direct Attach port is failed over two different SAN The appliance does not support the storage configuration where two paired ports on a 3PAR array are cabled for direct attach using two different interconnect modules on a C7000 enclosure. Suggested action Either remove port pairing on the 3PAR array, or change direct attach cabling to ensure partnered ports are connected to the same interconnect module.
Showing inconsistent attachment status while changing Storage system password and re-apply server profile If a volume attachment update experiences a failure, the appliance UI may show inconsistent attachment status between server profile and storage volume. SAN storage goes red in server profile but in volume page, the volume attachment remains green. Suggested action Review all related tasks for additional information on the failure. Re-applying the server profile may also resolve the inconsistency.
Host name may fail when adding a BNA SAN Manager to HPE OneView Adding a BNA SAN Manager to HPE OneView using a host name may fail due to host name validation failure. Suggested action Provide the IP address instead of a host name of the BNA.
Alert indicating that the deleted networks are still using the connection After removing networks and updating server profile templates, users may see that some server profiles will have an alert indicating that the deleted networks are still assigned to connections. This is an incorrect alert given the changes made to the profile and are cleared by refreshing the server profile. This can be done through the Profile Actions menu. Suggested action Refresh the affected server profiles via the Server Profile Refresh action in the user interface.
PUT Volume, Backward Compatibility, Mismatched Error Code for snapshotPoolUri property omission Some API error codes for storage volume PUT are different in HPE OneView 3.10; when the attribute snapshotPoolUri is omitted, then legacy Storage Resource Manager (StRM) returns. The error codes are:
Supporting of multiple port attachments when a 3PAR Direct Attach port is failed over two different SAN
13
• •
When no values given: STRM_SNAPSHOT_POOL_URI_FIELD_MISSING When giving invalid value: STRM_SNAPSHOT_POOL_CANNOT_BE_CHANGED
Suggested action If a script was specifically looking for the legacy error codes, then will require a change to the script to use the new codes.
Server profile Firmware update takes longer time When HPE OneView appliance is processing other profile operations, a logical enclosure firmware update will result in much longer execution times. Furthermore, users monitoring the tasks for the firmware update may not see tasks executing until the other operations complete. Suggested action It is recommended that users plan accordingly when performing a logical enclosure firmware update when other operations are also being executed. When this occurs, the total time for operations to complete will be much longer than each one independently, and this will mean a longer maintenance window is needed. Alternatively, customers should schedule the LE firmware update for a time where the other operations are not running concurrently thereby ensuring each activity completes within the expected period of time.
Post-restore remote support After restore of an appliance to a new appliance IP address, a refresh is required to re-enable the devices for remote support. Suggested action If the devices are enabled for remote support, refresh the enclosures and server hardware to re-establish communication between the appliance and the devices.
Server certificate will not be re-created when host name has more than 64 characters HPE OneView appliance certificate will not be re-generated when appliance host name is set to greater than 64 characters impacting external partner communication to HPE OneView via appliance certificate. Suggested action Choose a host name that has 64 characters or less.
Scopes panel on HPE OneView detail pane displays only the scopes that appear in scope master pane After using a search filter on the Settings > Scopes page, some scopes are missing from scope filter selections, and from the scope assignments shown for a selected resource. Suggested action Refresh the browser to clear the issue.
14
Server profile Firmware update takes longer time
Interconnect refresh at scale encounters premature timeout If an appliance is managing a large number of interconnects (200 interconnects or more) and the appliance is restarted, a small number of interconnects may be marked as 'AddedWithErrors' after all interconnect tasks have completed. Suggested action Refresh the enclosure which contains the interconnect. This will return the interconnect to the 'Configured' state.
SUT fails to activate on Windows Server 2016 with Gen9 firmware SUT fails to activate with Gen9 firmware is a result of a new sw_key for cp029150.exe - HPE Emulex 10/20 GbE Driver for Windows Server 2016 is not included in SUM 7.6.0 build. Suggested action Please use latest SUM 8.0.0 build to overcome the problem as SUM 7.6.0 is already in a released state.
Server profile uses different sets of target ports when adding a new path or modifying existing server profile using auto-target selection When adding a new path or attachment to an existing server profile using auto-target selection, if some of the existing paths on the server profile use different sets of target ports with the same SAN then an error occurs. This causes HPE OneView to choose different targets from an existing path with a different SAN and the resulting path becomes inoperable. Suggested action Edit the profile or the attachment, then choose manual targeting and the right targets which in some cases will be the only ones possible.
Remote console window opens but does not connect to the server When you launch the iLO5 remote console from HPE OneView, the remote console window opens but does not connect to the server. Suggested action Log in to the iLO5 web interface and launch the remote console from the iLO5 interface to access the server console.
HPE OneView reports "The Firmware Bundle Information Is Unavailable" Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2017.07.1 (or later) will successfully upload into HPE OneView, but HPE OneView will not display the SPP inventory or perform firmware updates with this SPP. In the "Firmware Bundles" master pane, the Version will be listed as "Unknown," and on the "Details" pane, the following message will be displayed:
Interconnect refresh at scale encounters premature timeout
15
"The firmware bundle information is unavailable." Any of the following HPE OneView versions are affected: • • •
HPE OneView 3.x - All versions 3.00.07 (or earlier) HPE OneView 2.x - All versions 2.00.08 (or earlier) HPE OneView 1.2x - All versions (or earlier)
Suggested action Any of the following HPE OneView versions are required in order to use the 2017.07.1 SPP (or later) • • •
HPE OneView 3.x - 3.00.08 or newer HPE OneView 2.x - 2.00.09 or newer HPE OneView 3.1 or newer.
Connection changes in FC or iSCSI Managed Volume profile may not get applied If there is an Ethernet or iSCSI/FC connection that is using iSCSI or FC boot and boot from Managed volume, editing the profile to change another existing connection to be bootable, while using the same managed boot volume, will cause the changes to not get applied to the server if no additional changes are made to the bootable volume attachment. Suggested action 1. Edit the profile to make one of the bootable connections to non-bootable and remove the storage path on the bootable volume attachment for that connection. 2. Edit profile again to make the connection bootable from the intended Managed volume which will include editing the connection to be bootable from Managed volume and editing the bootable volume attachment to add a storage path for the connection.
16
Connection changes in FC or iSCSI Managed Volume profile may not get applied
Notes for HPE OneView 3.0 Supported iSCSI boot configurations The following parameters are supported: • • • •
IPv4 (no support for IPv6) Static IP address and DHCP allocated IP addresses HW-iSCSI (iSCSI offload, hardware assisted initiator) Bootable HW-iSCSI connections can only be on the second function of the physical port (port "b", which is the storage function)
Managing iLO4 devices When managing devices that have iLO4, HPE OneView 3.0 or higher works best with iLO4 firmware version 2.40 or higher. If you have iLO4 firmware version 2.3x on your device, it is highly recommended that you upgrade your iLO4 firmware to version 2.40 or higher before starting to manage the device using HPE OneView 3.0 or higher. Configuring adapter ports When creating a server profile connection to boot from SAN (FC or iSCSI) using a server blade in legacy BIOS mode, port 1 of the adapter must be configured (or both ports 1 and 2 can be configured). Configuring only port 2 may lead to the server booting from the incorrect device (typically the local disk). This behavior impacts Emulex adapter models 554M, 650M, 554FLB, 556FLB, and 650FLB. RAID 10 ADM support RAID 10 ADM is not supported.
Notes for HPE OneView 3.0

Documentation addendum The following information was made available after publication and does not appear in the HPE OneView 3.10 documentation.
HPE OneView REST API Reference NOTE: Minimum supported API versions are subject to change in future releases, therefore it is recommended to migrate to the latest API version at the earliest possible convenience in order to avoid compatibility issues when upgrading to newer versions of HPE OneView. NOTE: HPE OneView REST API versions less than 120 are deprecated with the release of HPE OneView 3.10. API calls that don’t specify a version number will also be deprecated. Support for these versions will be removed in the next release of HPE OneView. See “About” in the HPE OneView API Reference for the complete list of supported REST API versions. NOTE: Certain asynchronous APIs return a task in the response body, however this behavior is deprecated and will be removed in future API versions. The task’s URI is returned in the location header of all asynchronous responses (HTTP Status 202), therefore clients should use that header for accessing the task associated with the operation, rather than utilizing the response body for this. NOTE: HPE OneView REST APIs for managing storage systems, pools, and volumes have changed. Consult the "What's New?" page in the HPE OneView API Reference for more information. NOTE: A new API for managing firmware repositories through scripting is now available. Refer to the HPE OneView API Reference 500, which is accessible from the help side bar in HPE OneView 3.10. Visit the "What's New" page in the API Reference to see the list of all APIs added or removed since last release.
Required filters to create a custom SPP using the custom SPP portal Select any of the filters you want to use; however, the following filters are required to create a valid custom SPP: • • • •
18
Bundle Format: Select Bootable ISO (SUM included). Operating Systems: Select all RHEL Operating systems. Devices: Select OA, Virtual Connect (VC), and iLO. Server Models: At least one Proliant Gen7 server and one Gen8 or Gen9 blade server model.
Documentation addendum
When to use a server profile in online help The following information has been added to 'when to use a server profile': • •
Specify the activation schedule for the Smart Update Tool based installation methods. Supported for Gen8 and newer generations of server models.
Target ports selected for FC connection using Managed volume option are now load balanced In HPE OneView 3.0, when setting the boot target for FC connection using Managed volume option, HPE OneView always picks the first target port that the storage system exposes even if several ports are available. In HPE OneView 3.10 or later, HPE OneView will now pick the least used target port when choosing the target port for boot. This load balancing will automatically occur over time as more profiles get created. If you do not want this behavior, you must use the Specify boot target FC Boot option.
Turn off HPE iLO higher security settings until HPE OneView supports With the introduction of HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers, there are new higher security settings (High Security, FIPS, and CNSA) that may be set in HPE iLO. If you are managing servers via HPE OneView, it is required to turn these settings off until HPE OneView officially supports the higher security levels.
Only the firmware inventory is displayed in the firmware resource screen of Logical enclosure In the Logical enclosure screen, only firmware inventory is displayed under the firmware resource in the HPE OneView 3.10 version. You can view both the firmware and driver inventory in the server hardware page under the firmware resource screen.

Firmware and drivers update for ESXi OS for Gen10 servers For Gen10 servers, the support for ESXi WBEM inventory providers is no longer available.
Skip server firmware update if firmware is already up-todate When the profile is already up-to-date as per the baseline versions, then a firmware update can be skipped. This allows HPE OneView to run faster and can save up to 15–20 minutes in the overall profile apply timing.
Unassigned Server Profile/creating server profile template Update the logical interconnect group associated with each server profile having FC connections before trying to create a new server profile template with the same FC connections. Update the logical interconnect group associated with a server profile with FC connections before attempting to unassign the server profile.
