HSCD-E3 E3 CSU/DSU for E3 Networks • HSCD-E3 provides the transmit and receive clocks to the DTE from either of two user-selected sources options: Internal clock derived from a built-in internal crystal Received clock recovered from the E3 network. The different clock options support connection either over E3 networks, or in point-to-point applications. • Monitoring and control can be FEATURES • Standard HSSI interface • • • • • • • • according to ANSI EIA/TIA-613, 612 Direct connection of HSSI routers to E3 networks Supports rates of 8.5, 17 and 34.1 Mbps Complies with ITU G.703, G.751 and G.823 recommendations Two user-selected system clock sources for maximum application flexibility Control and monitoring via front panel or ASCII terminal Statistical information on system performance Comprehensive diagnostic capabilities over the local and remote unit Stores up to 100 alarms in a non-volatile memory for fault tracking DESCRIPTION • HSCD-E3 enables a DTE with standard HSSI interface to communicate with a similar device over E3 networks. The payload of the HSSI interface can be one of the following rates (user-selectable): 8.53, 17.05 or 34.1 Mbps. The product’s HSSI interface conforms to ANSI standards: physical layer EIA/TIA-613 and electrical layer EIA/TIA-612. Both transmit and receive clocks are provided to the DTE HSSI interface for system synchronization. • The E3 network interface complies with ITU recommendations G.703, G.751 and G.823. HSCD-E3 supports both framed and unframed transmissions over the E3 networks. performed either via front panel LCD and switches, or from an ASCII terminal. The front panel management is performed by a menu displayed on the LCD and the front panel switches. Alternatively, an ASCII terminal can be used for convenient command line management. • HSCD-E3 collects performance statistics of the E3 network interface. Statistics are collected in 15-minute intervals over 24 hours; the last 24-hour information is stored. • The diagnostic capabilities of HSCD-E3 include local and remote loopbacks. The diagnostic loops can be activated by using an assigned pin on the HSSI interface, front panel LCD and switches, or ASCII terminal. HSCD-E3 E3 CSU/DSU for E3 Networks • A special alarm buffer is available which stores up to 100 alarms detected during operation. The operator can also view the alarm buffer contents during operation via the front panel LCD or the ASCII terminal. • HSCD-E3 is a compact 1U-high desktop standalone unit. Using a special rack mount adapter, one or two units can be installed in a 19” rack (see Ordering).
