INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for SUNNEN® SV22280 GUIDE POT ASSEMBLY KIT

For use on Sunnen® SV310 & SV410 Vertical Honing Machines
GENERAL The following instructions cover the unpacking, inspecting, installing, and operating of Sunnen SV22280 Guide Pot Assembly Kit on Sunnen SV310 & SV410 Vertical Honing Machines.
TOOLS & MATERIALS The following tools and materials are required for unpacking and installing of your Machine: Knife Hex Wrenches Tin Snips Open End Wrenches Slip Joint Pliers Screwdriver (Std) Cleaning Solvent
INSTALLATION Read the following instructions carefully and thoroughly before unpacking, inspecting and installing the kit on your Machine. All references to right and left in these instructions are, unless otherwise noted, as seen by operator as one looks at Machine or assembly being described. WARNING Disconnect all Electrical Power to the machine. Failure to comply may result in damage to the machine and/or personal injury. 1. Shut-Off Electrical Power at Master ON/OFF on Electrical Control Enclosure and Lock-Out. 2. Open Doors as required. 3. Remove any tooling from machine. 4. Remove left and right Splash Guard Door Assemblies, by removing six (6) Hex Head Capscrews and Washers securing guards to column (see Figure 1). Lay mounting hardware aside for reinstallation of guards later.
5. Assembly Lifting Flange Base (#34) to Spindle / Feed Unit (see Figure 2). Secure Lifting Lugs (#35) to Lifting Flange Base, using enclosed hardware. 6. Mount left and right Guide Assembly Weldments (#26) to the sides of the column as shown, using the hardware provide (see Figure 3). Align Spacers (#31) and Weldment (#26) with Splash Guard & Return Spring Brackets removed in step 4. Secure using six (6) Capscrews, removed in step 4. 7. If not Installed: Slide Pillow Block Assemblies (#32) onto Guide Rods (#25); then install Shaft Collars (#6) as shown (see Figure 4). 8. If not Installed: Attach Bearing Supports (#30) to Pillow Block Assemblies (#32), using Screw and Washers provided (#16, #25, #26). NOTE: Only finger tighten Screws at this time. 34 - LIFTING FLANGE BASE 17 - CAPSCREWS

9. Attach Mounting Plate (#34) to ends of Guide Rods (refer to Figure 4). CAPSCREWS
10. Place Support into position, on Base as shown (see Figure 5).

12. Align Guide Rods with Lifting Lugs, installed in step 5, and secure to Guide Assemblies Weldments, using Screws and Washers provided (#17, #20, #21) (refer to Figure 5). 31 - BEARING SUPPORT
13. With Guide Rods and Mounting Plate resting on Cradle, install Split Collars (#3) and Guide Rod Bumpers as shown (see Figure 6).

14. Assemble Guide Bar Locking Components (#1, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11) (refer to SV21280 Drawing & Figure 7).

15. Install Cover (#33) and Guide Bar Locking Components as shown (refer to Figure 7). 16. With Guide Rods and Mounting Plate resting on Cradle, install Tool, by sliding through Mounting Plate and attaching to spindle as shown (see Figure 8).

17. With Guide Rods and Mounting Plate resting on Cradle, loosen all adjusting Screws on Lifting Lugs and Pillow Block Assemblies; center Tool in Mounting Plate Guide Pot; than carefully retighten all the Screws.

18. Reattach Splash Guard Doors, removed in step 4 (refer to Figure 8). FIGURE 5
SETUP & OPERATION Consult the Instruction Manual packaged with your machine, when setting up your machine for operation. (The machine's control software will walk you through the setup procedure step-by-step on the view screen. Follow all instructions carefully.)
3 - SPLIT COLLARS & 5 - GUIDE ROD BUMPER
1. Release Guide Bar Locking Plate, and move Guide Pot Assembly up so workpiece and tooling may be installed (see Figure 9). Then re-lock. FIGURE 6
2. Install Workpiece. 3. Select and install Tool. 4. Position Tool following direction on display screen. 5. Release Guide Bar Locking Plate, and lower Guide Pot, so Tool Guide is located just above workpiece (see Figure 10). The Hone Head should be encapsulate by the Tool Guide both during the honing cycle and when the tool is retracked from the bore. The Tool Guide & Hone Head should be able to clear workpiece and Machine components as the as the Carriage is repositioned for each bore.
