V7000 Unified - Upgrade •
6 up to 24 RU solution – When clustering multiple Storwize V7000 storage modules via a redundant SAN fabric (via FCP or FCoE), we are be able to scale up to 84 RU (+ SAN connectivity)

Real-time Compression – Basics • Compression is an alternative to Thin Provisioning – They both allow you to use less physical space on disk than is presented to the host
• A Compressed Volume is “a kind of” Thin Provisioning – Only uses physical storage to store compressed data – Volume can be built from a pool using internal or external MDisks
• Compression requires the I/O group hardware be one of the following platforms – SVC Model 2145-CF8/CG8 Nodes – Storwize V7000 Model 2076-1xx/3xx Control Enclosure
• Can use Volume mirroring to convert to a Compressed Volume

What compression ratio will I achieve? • If you do not have a V7000 (new customer) – Then you can use the “Comprestimator” Tool if you use RHEL5, ESX5, Windows 2003+ or AIX 6.1+ hosts.
1.Download Comprestimator from IBM website 2.Upload Comprestimator to Server – e.g. “scp Comprestimator root@IP_of_ESXServer:/
3.Change file to executable – “chmod +x Comprestimator”
