IBM Power Systems Therese Eaton Client Technical Specialist, POWER IBM i Accelerating change in our industry © IBM Corporation, 2016 POWER8 strategy Optimized for Data Open Innovation Platform Superior Cloud Economics © IBM Corporation, 2016 Leverage Broad Open Ecosystem Open Platform Open System Software Linux and Open Cloud Management © IBM Corporation, 2016 (Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface) Two major technology trends will heavily impact the industry • Hardware acceleration will become commonplace as microprocessor technology and design continues to deliver far less than the historical rate of cost/performance improvement per generation • New advanced memory technologies will change the economics of computing The new standard, called OpenCAPI provides an open, high-speed pathway for different types of technology – advanced memory, accelerators, networking and storage – to more tightly integrate their functions within servers. This data-centric approach to server design, which puts the compute power closer to the data, removes inefficiencies in traditional system architectures to help eliminate system bottlenecks and significantly improve server performance. http://opencapi.org/about/ © IBM Corporation, 2016 Leadership portfolio of System & Solutions © IBM Corporation, 2016 Introducing New IBM Enterprise Power Systems for the Cloud Accelerate your cloud transformation Reduce Total Cost of Ownership • Adaptable to your architecture: runs AIX, IBM i and Linux workloads • New capacity consumption pricing model • Supports Private and Hybrid
